In less than 3 years my daughter went through 2 sets of GE washer/dryers. And she was paying for the extended warranty. I told her to check out Speed Queen and this was during Covid. They delivered the set to her in about a week. She’s had no problem with the Speed Queen set. They’re very quiet and clean and dry like a dream.

My GE just tore up and two repairmen told us to fix it would cost as much as it did new. Apparently GE's are much more difficult to remove the drum and work on and very costly. I loved my washer and I'm sickened that I have to hopefully find a top loader with an agitator. Repairmen both said to get Whirlpool, Speed Queen or Maytag. Speed Queen's are much too small for our laundry needs, so that's out.

I have had speed queen for 6 years and no complaints, love them. My parents are looking for a new set and many people said speed queen. Two different independent appliance dealers said speed queen and most reviews have them in the top 3 (usually #1 if they are honest)

My wife and I bought a Maytag top-load commercial washer in 2020, along with the gas Commercial dryer from one of the big box home improvement stores. The only gripe we've had with the washer has been the bottom of the agitator capturing clothes and damaging them during the agitation (pulled buttons off). The bottom of the agitator blades all have about a 1/4" slot which has been the thing that has grabbed our clothes and damaged them. This has only happened on big loads and has happened about 5 times in two years. Except for that issues, we've really like the fast cycle times and the great cleaning it does (about 45 minutes cycle vs 2 hour 15 minutes with our previous front-load HE washer).

I live in my house for 23 years, in the first 10 I went through 3 washing machines and then I bought a Speed Queen and never looked back. 13 years of daily service with no issues, built like a tank, simple to use and if you have "stains" a little scrub with Shout does the job. Good luck with the stains pre sets of the GE. Speed Queen might be a little costlier than the rest but you'll save time and money in the long run and prevent a lot of "agita" when those fancier machines break down and they will! Sorry but the top load TR7 Speed Queen washer is the top of the line! You don't need a fancy POWER wash button because you have a MULTITUDE of wash options including HEAVY wash. This Speed Queen actually FILLS TO TO TOP of the tub if you select and of course has many other water fill options. It also offer at least 10 favorite was buttons, should you choose, pre-wash, pre-soak, delayed stop, STABLE spin, and so much more. Spend a few extra bucks, get the 7 year warranty and this thing will probably last 40 years if you keep it clean! You can balance a nickel on this machine during the spin cycle and the wash cycle is so quiet, you'll think it isn't operating! This is a heavy duty operating machine which of course offers gentle cycles for your light weight clothing. Go and check them out!

I read Consumers Reports online, but, the problem IS:
They test products that are new. Like Leroy Lockhorn said to a new Groom in the funnies: "prior performance doesn't guarantee future results." I realize that they do simulated aging tests, but, it's still not the real thing. If I'd known my tub was going to rust, I would have done washes with a sacrificial anode (they sell those for water heaters.)

GE uses a pre-cast concrete block to balance their washers. If those things come loose, they start to bang against the inside of the cabinet and in very short time crumble and break. Concrete counter weight - what a non-brilliant idea. Steel of course would be too expensive - gotta remember the corporate bottom line, right?

The TC5 washes rings around the TR7 series, according to the early reviews. I needed a new washer in 2019, and was on my way out the door to the appliance store when I went back to CZcams to reassure myself that the Amana available at Home Depot was the best choice (my LG had barely outlasted the warranty and the replacement part didn't fit despite the fact that the order had included not only the model number, but also the serial number), when I saw a review of the newly released TC5000. I got to the appliance store just as they were putting the first TC5 on display, and I slapped my card down and said, "Sold!", one of the first sold in Atlanta.
Great machine, great wash, a little noisy, but it gets the clothes CLEAN in about 40 minutes including the extra rinse.

Durability will always go to speed queen because of their commercial-grade build quality, but you will certainly be paying more upfront for that.
I think part of the reason GE sells better than something like a speed queen is that price gap. Many just aren't willing to spend the extra money for peace of mind and much lower chances of service & repair issues. We've seen too that those with the budget for a speed queen are usually looking for a front-load pair which usually falls in a similar price category.
As for ease of use that is debatable, they are all very similar and easy to use.

The hot point the agitator fins break of. More bells and whistles more to break. Maytag will run for ever but not wash as well. Speed Queen good wash good washer. GE cheaper to maintain. Wascomat very very good front loader.if you can afford it. Give me an old Frigidaire Jet cone washer. best washer ever. Milnor is a monster very good. I worked on some that are 50+ years. At one time I did maintenance for a dozen + laundromats.

If you want a washing machine that works well and is built to last, the only answer is Speed Queen. Our Speed Queen is 12 years old and still runs great. Everyone in my family that was tired of there junky washing machine both top and front load that I tell to buy a top load Speed Queen are so happy with them and thank me for telling them to buy a Speed Queen. Trust me spend the few hundred extra dollars to buy a top load Speed Queen, they are worth every cent. Do not be penny wish and dollar foolish by buying the competition over a Speed Queen, odds are it will never lat as long as a Speed Queen will or will wash your clothes cleaner than a Speed Queen will. Thank You Speed Queen for still building a such a quality and well made product, you put your competition to shame!

What model did you get. The tc5 with direct drive seemed like a tank, but I got the tr7 because they matched price and wanted a bit more options on the wash cycles.

There is only one with a real agitator (speed queen) the others have agipellers

@@lmal8207 no. It has a look a like thing that does not swish swash like they used to. Lol.

@@Ryan-re1rs but it’s an actual dual action agitator, I had this washer, the fins on the bottom are separate from the roller. There’s tons of videos of this machine on CZcams. It may not “swish” like older models but it’s the only brand that has a real dual action agitator unlike the other brands that are impeller “agitators”

I will NEVER buy another GE washing machine..they have needed repairs in less than 2 years of my purchasing. The Speed Queen is pricey but worth every cent. No more aggravation. Blows my mind GE made your list, let alone giving it the top spot!!
