It's honestly a decent gun especially once your weapon familiarity gets up there. It also gives you a single barrel shotgun without having to draw or switch weapons.
BTW the catalog is pretty amazing. I've never read the LeMat's entry before.

I equip the LeMat Revolver as John’s primary sidearm in the Epilogue. I make sure to pick it up before leaving Mexico in RDR1.

its a great gun, I honestly like it more than the Navy Revolver. Say what you want about the Confederacy: they had interesting weapons, and I'm no supporter of them. They fought longer than the BLM, in an actual war. The Confederate were doing good against the north, until they were losing industries, men, and more land.
But one side note: that's an early model, a really early mode. The handle isn't that close to the trigger, its either a Lemat 1st model, which the handle is further back, and has a trigger support. The Artillery, Cavalry used them, don't know much about the Infantry. Maybe some, but they were using confederate revolvers, and the Colt 1851 navy

and when people say "western feel", yeah. Its a revolver, of course its going to have a western side to it. I actually don't mind the pistols in the game, its set in 1899 and 1907, the first pistol was made in 1891, and over the years, they became more practical. So I don't mind it at all anymore. If you want a western, set it in 1870s or 1880s.

"If you want a western, set it in 1870s or 1880s"
Personally, I would prefer a game set at that time, the hay-day of the wild west. But I agree that if it's set in 1899, it's natural to have weapons from that era in it.

I love the LeMats, I make a matching pair when playing.

I love the guns in rdr2 but the balancing is all out of wack. The 3 best revolvers are the Navy, schofield, and lemat. It should be the double action, schofield, and cattleman. The navy was made in 1851 and was a cap and ball revolver so it would be very outdated by rdr2 and the lemat was made in 1849 making it even older.
