  • The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has cut Niger's electricity, prompting legal action from the military leadership.
Niger says it is in breach of an agreement of the 1960s and has led to people dying in hospitals, while small business owners say the extra cost of using generators means they have to lay off some staff.
Al Jazeera’s Ahmed Idris reports from Niamey, Niger.

Sadly enough to see how one african brother is capable of treating another just to mantain a good relationship with its european master.

The sanctions is illegal, it's completely breach of contract and Nigeria Senate never gave power to president to sanctions Niger republic, president sanctions Niger because of pressure from western countries,if a leader like this can pray to western pressure then Nigeria have a problem.

NOpe. Excellent move by ECOWAS. Sanctions are VERY effective. And the longer they go on the better they are. The rogue bandits that took over niger dont think of the effects to the people. That is on THEM.

If there is a contract in place to provide electricity on what basis was this contract broken. Hope Niger put its own electricity going forward.

The electrical supply agreement must have an arbitration clause for resolving disputes between the two parties

Why is it necessarily to include the enemy in such dealings ... FRANCE should pack up and go so simple, if there wasn't NIGER were could be FRANCE sourcing the energy from?

When all of those young men lose their jobs and businesses along the border due to sanctions, they will resort to other ways to earn a living. Wonder what they could do🤔?
