Is it bad that I'm crying from happiness from the last one? I love how they got away from that awful human being.
At that one I could only think that it sounds very familiar, except in the end of my experience, my father died home alone of a heart attack while we were hiding from his angry drunk butt in my grandmother's house.
I'm sorry for the horror you had. My father used to hit my mom and brothers, but he straighten up and became a decent human being. We all have a great relationship with him now. He pulled a gun on my oldest brother once. He changed into a good person. My older brother not the oldest one I believe he suffers mental damage from it. He has major depression and started using meth when he was 21. He's 25 now and he's not any better. My dad is a great man now and it's very rare when abusers straighten up.

My brother tried to grow cannabis once (only bad because it's not legal here), but he seems to be healthier both mentally and physically than the average big-city person.
Maybe older siblings get hit harder by these things - i'm the older sibling and it did impact me noticeably too, like i had top grades at school, and then i didn't, and then i started failing entire school-years, etc. But i don't have memories of my father in which i felt unsafe around him (just some clues indicating that i probably *should* have felt unsafe), aside from this one, and i think i'd like to keep it that way. So no scary reddit story from me either, i guess. :v
I'm glad you didn't feel unsafe or it didn't pack onto you badly. I know these situations can cause health problems to people like depression or anxiety. Luckily I didn't get any and I was middle of it trying to stop everything. I only get anxious when somebody is yelling. My brother I am afraid he won't get help or change. Meth makes you a different person. It causes you to become very aggressive person and very bi polar. I don't like being around him much and tend to try to avoid him best I can.

That happy birthday sounds so distorted after every story, its chilling.
The story about the dad and the bike made me want to cry because it’s so relatable for me, and makes me miss my brother so much. Because I remember times were my brother protected me so many times. Like one time a dog was about to bite me and my brother distracted it towards him and the dog ended up biting my brother and taking a chunk out of his leg. He protected me from dogs, strangers... family. I miss him.

That little kid's voice made me nearly jump through the ceiling. My poor heart.
The first time that little kid voice said "Happy Birthday" I was a bit startled. It was so unexpected and out of the blue. Very nice touch.
Edit: Also very nice is how it gets deeper each time it plays. From the first one at 7:30 to the one I just hit while typing at half an hour, I've noticed it getting deeper. Creepy.

I normally listen to these while I write. Normally, I never get scared by them, and I've done this hundreds of times.... This is probably the first video that scared me. Why? Because I put it on then clicked back into my writing program, and suddenly heard happy music and speaking, and was so startled by it that I spilled my soda.

I love you Let's Read!! You're one of my few favorite narration channels, I listen to you to go to sleep a lot! Very helpful, you're voice is so nice and soothing. It also helps with my anxiety, strangely, because I focused on your voice and the story and not my own mind going a million miles an hour.

My sister recently had her birthday, and I've had some pretty bad ones, but nothing nearly as scary as being stalked, nearly being assaulted or kidnapped, or getting abused. Listening to these was a little unsettling to my stomach... definitely glad I didn't eat any cake earlier.
My birthday is in late August, and where I live summer is on the hot side of tolerable, but still nice enough to go cycling. When I used to cycle as a child, about 12, I noticed there was always a white car that followed me around until I rode off the road or got close to an interstate. When I was 13 I had to have spinal surgery because of a deformity I had which was becoming life threatening. By my 14th birthday, I still had a difficult time walking, but my three closest friends and I had a party. We were grilling hot dogs when one of our neighbors called the police because we had a fire burning instead of using a grill, which we didn't have. The officers told us we had to put it out, and my mother offered to take care of it while my friends and I walked to the town square about two streets away to get ice cream. Everything was fine until the walk back when I noticed the same white car right in front of the glass building. I didn't say anything, but then it started following us. I wasn't sure if the man knew where I lived, so I started running and nearly broke down the fence trying to beat the car. I hid in the garage for four hours because I was afraid he was waiting for me to make a break for the house. When I was 16, I got a job at a fast food restaurant that my cousin managed. The car came through the drive thru and started asking me about my breast size and saying what he wanted to do with me. He asked me for something off of the bottom shelf, and when I stood up he had been taking pictures of me. I immediately got someone else to give him his food, and I could hear him yelling "why weren't you home? I had a birthday present for you. Is this where you where? Come out and get your present." And then he sped off. He was never caught.

As someone who grew up with a similarly abusive father, I had not thought about it, but I really appreciated how they told that story - especially the part about getting the bike. It’s true, when things are often awful, and you have to keep the secrets...bits of happiness can mean a lot more to you - that tiny bit of escapism that a family not mired in abuse would not as easily understand.
