Love how the Queen kept making sure William wasn't going to fall over the balcony. An how Charles was holding and playing with Harry.

Magnificent. Bravo from Oregon! No other nation has anything that rivals the difficult evolutions of Trooping the Colour. Although the standards seem to have slipped some, probably due to relaxing the height requirements, it's still a great show. I bet the Queen had no idea that she wasn't yet halfway through the Troopings in her honor!

I was there. I was in the U.S. Air Force at that time serving at RAF Upper Heyford. My two year stint at that base was coming to a close and I booked a 17 day tour of Europe. I had to get on a ferry the next morning, so I decided to spend one final day in London. In my previous trips to London, I never saw Buckingham Palace, so I went there. I had no knowledge of the "Trooping the Colour" ceremony. Sure took a ton of great photos that day!

Back in the 1980s spring drills would start just after Easter, when my mate was in (Irish Guards) a few years back they had just weeks to prepare. Think about stuff, Edith old girl, think.

@@clemteetonball1250 Agree with your comments but it still remains a fact that Guards Depot Pirbright was the foundation of Guards drill, turnout and bearing until its closure in the late 80s, whereas Guards Training Company at Catterick is a rather poor substitute, at least as far as ceremonial is concerned, and I'm afraid it shows nowadays. Lastly, That weapon. The SLR. My fave. Stripped and re-assembled it blindfold. 😂👌

Yes. Colonel Malcolm Havergal had a great voice. 1985 was the first Trooping which I attended, so I remember it very well. An amusing anecdote: I bought an LP of the soundtrack, of this parade, and, when I played it, Mum thought that Colonel Havergal's voice was the rag and bone man!
