I operated this roller coaster one summer, way back in the day (summer 2001). It was a great summer job and PGA was great in terms of employing students from all over the world. Fun experience working by day, meeting and living with tons and tons of people from all over the world when we were off, and traveling most of California in between. Awesome experience!
Even though it hasn’t had this color scheme in forever, the green and black still feels familiar to me. Cool to see a video of it! (However, the original trains definitely look really old and funky to me now, haha.)
It is quite interesting how it was green for a long time (from 1991-1999/2000?) and now it has purple track with yellow running rails which are really faded. I think California's Great America should repaint this coaster again. I also find it quite wierd how no rides or roller coasters had no seat belts until the early 2000's. Stand-up roller coaster restraints (especially B&M ones) look wierd with out seatbelts. But the seatbelts were later added for safety.
Hi Psyclonesteve channel. I am so sorry to hear about his passing. I am wanting to see who I can reach out to in order to see if I can use some short clips of this video on a Roller Coaster history project I am working on. He has some of the best footage out there for vortex for the time period I am looking for! and would love to use and attribute. Thank you in advance for your consideration!
Hi Alex, sorry for not getting back sooner. Steve would have liked you to use the footage but please credit both him and Andrew Marshall who filmed it. Thanks Sharon
It was green from 1991-1997 it was nice to see triple play and the tidal wave in the background rip
Nathan Lopez yes it was green. I hate the purple that is on the tracks now.
I know I wish Triple Play and Tidal Wave never left
It was different 1997-2016, then transformed to patriot, which was 2017-present.
I never knew it was green

Do you have footage of the Tidal Wave as well ?
Chain lift sounds so satisfying
And then cedar fair bought it....
Not until 10 years after this video was taken
After 10 years of operation as a stand-up. Also, it sucks now anyway so the floorless will be good.
i never knew it was green ..
