And surely the charity would have understood why he was cancelling, and perhaps just rescheduled Shatners appearance. They would recognize the damage to their public image if it came out they had forced Shatner, under threat of being sued, to miss Nimoys funeral. An intentional ditching into the Hudson River, Sully style is statistically far more likely to happen, especially with armored cockpit doors, and Air Marshals now normal.

My family got to see the play Caligula, starring Leonard Nimoy in Dallas Texas. We got to sit in the front row and as kids we didn't understand the play or care but we were "Star Struck" (excuse the pun!) by Leonard Nimoy. We got to watch Star Trek Reruns and were fans. He was a amazing actor. ❣️❣️

I remember the dry ice volcano on Western Airlines as a child when my parents flew us all from SEA to HNL for the Christmas holidays. Now that was service! "The only way to fly".
This is probably one of their last commercials, because soon thereafter Delta Air Lines started negotiations which resulted in them buying Western in 1986. Their major hub (Salt Lake City, UT) is still one of their larger hubs today.
Ah, back in the days when airlines truly had to compete, had quality service and amenities and it was actually fun to fly. I remember flying on Eastern, Delta, AirCal, PSA, TWA, and Western...I miss all of them. Delta is of course still around, but nowhere near as good as it once was.
Remember when they used to roll out lots of great food? I remember flying in 1968 (when people still got dressed up). It was early morning and I was flying with my grandparents. I had pancakes, eggs, toast, bacon (oj and milk). I really liked the breakfast but got scolded for spilling the syrup. Nice memory though sitting next to my grandpa and 1st flight.
I remember flying when I was a kid and the stewardess handed out chewing gum. I thought it was really neat, but it was so our ears wouldn’t pop. Good old days. And no , Wilber and Orville weren’t flying the plane.

I had pancakes, eggs, toast, bacon (oj and milk). I really liked the breakfast but got scolded for spilling the syrup. Nice memory though sitting next to my grandpa and 1st flight.
I remember flying when I was a kid and the stewardess handed out chewing gum. I thought it was really neat, but it was so our ears wouldn’t pop. Good old days. And no , Wilber and Orville weren’t flying the plane.

I am 40 and I still can relate to people better that are so much more older than I, most of the time! My heart breaks a little each year I hear another part of the "wiser" generations go away.

In the 50s, it was a cartoon bird, leaning up against the vertical stabilizer as the clouds fly by. He is drinking champagne, and says "Western Airlines, it's the only way to fly." A ten second spot.
