The fact that a tiny black hole can have such a strong gravitational pull is indeed a terrifying though. They are interesting, but it’s the ones that take up just about the entire screen that terrify me a bit

The sand, the underwater levels, the scary sound when your life is at 1, being electrocuted, being crushed by a Thwomp and being disintegrated into molecules till death in in that Bowser level are absolutely the most terrifying things for me as a 7 years old kid. Still gives me nightmares god

The black holes really creeped me out in this game and they still do.
Traumatized me as a kid. Especially when the screen suddenly gets very close to a giant black when you fall into it. I would always have nightmares.
I'm 24 and it still creeps me out haha. It's the weird zoom-in and the pulling in noise that's so unsettling.
Very unsettling. And sometimes Mario will get sucked into a black hole and you’ll think that maybe it’s gonna be a giant one. Of course when the camera catches up with Mario, it turns out to be a tiny black hole instead
Glad to know that I'm not the only one!
It's just a real creepy phenomena overall. The chilling, subtle "windy" sound when it's nearby, the sound when you get sucked in, and the look of it just feels real creepy for a Mario game.
It still makes me feel unsettled, but thankfully not enough for me to not replay the Galaxy games!

It’s not broken... I mod Mario Galaxy levels and I know how they do it, they put a death barrier ahead of the black hole area where you would of died, or else they just the the death area for the black hole very small.

When Mario dies while falling but before getting sucked into a black hole, the death scene prioritizes, cancelling the black hole cutscene. It's a glitch.
Either its for show or the death barrier moved up above the black hole somehow
Strange how even when your health is depleted, the 1 health beeping continues until the death scene starts.

One more thing I don't get about this game is sometimes you just fall through black holes, seen here: 6:26
Edit: Regular death zones are sometimes placed above the black holes, so that's why sometimes the black hole death is not triggered. And the glitch I was referring to is caused by the game hardcoded to kill the player no matter what if they are squished.
