I noticed that. But at least they didn't paint it over dead white the way a lot of other shows do! In a few years so many people are going to regret hiding beautiful natural woodwork and trim, furniture and brick beneath paint.
Depends on the size of the room too. My living room & kitchen are one huge room & I did gray paint & white quartz counters with a splash of dark gray & gray tile backsplash. Everybody seems to like the colors in those spaces.
Yes, for my kitchen, it was Sherwin Williams Soft Sage walls with Canyon Echo top cabinets and Roma Haze for the bottom cabinets. The living room is done in Sherwin Williams Cracked Ice, which is a neutral light gray. Both with white semi gloss trim. Much better than how we found the place back in 2019. Kitchen was Bubble Gum Pink walls, SpongeBob yellow top cabinets & a dark Industrial gray for the bottom cabinets. I wanted to cry because it’s open concept into the dining room area. So we had a lot of painting to do. 3 coats of Kilz to cancel out the Pink on those walls. Looks much calmer now.
It's funny, not so many years later, and pink and black, 80s, Art Deco is back in, and entertainment units have shrunk or disappeared altogether. And shocking colours like the tangerine bathroom are seen as a bit chic now.
It would be helpful if you were able to tell us the results of the sale, and at what percentage of the asking price it was sold. After all, that's how you compare the similar homes on the show which have successfully sold. We want to know what happened and how long it took to sell this house. You're leaving out the most important part of the show's purpose. "No, it didn't sell and our work was ineffective". Seems odd we don't get a resolution. Writers and producers need to do a bit of retooling.
That's what I always wonder about on all these videos. After spending all that money and totally wrecking everything the people originally put into making it feel like home, did the house sell? Did they take a loss on it? Are they stuck there in a bland cookie cutter house? Or did it all pay off, it sold and they made a profit? I only watch this show for the creative 'before' videos. I'm guessing I could figure out how to turn an entire house various shades of white without much help.
I don't think 10% of them sold before the the show aired. It's usually "interest has sure picked up" but with nothing firm. We didn't hear even that much with this episode.
The small window in the master bedroom looks onto a brick wall. I would close it. Use a lighter colour of grey for the livingroom and dinning room. This colour gray makes the room seem small and dark.
The color in the downstairs bathroom is too dark for that room. Why didn't they do it in a much lighter color. This house is a train wreck still in my opinion. They took away the orange in the bathroom then put orange accessories in the basement family room. Yuck
definitely, modern homes been selling the best in white or neutral soft color schemes for over a decade and it looks like it's not changing anytime soon. This home looks more modern, sleek and uncluttered but the color scheme is still too dark, would have gone for lighter colors. They probably couldn't do much about the dark furniture (something that ALWAYS makes homes look chunky and dark, no idea why people still buy black sofas etc)
I have been watching this series for inspiration to update my house decor. I sit here in my very orange dining room, and just look what pops up into my suggested videos........
But they don't hence the need for staging. Also the seller wants to get top dollar. If the potential buyer sees old shabby furniture then they tend to want to low ball the seller.
Did anyone notice the quarter-round is ‘white’ against the cream baseboard? (19:07 mark). Also- what’s the storage in the master bedroom now that the ginormous wall unit is gone?
I am always amazed by the low dollar figure when everything is added up: surely the labor component often equals 3 times, or more the cost of supplies and materials. And now my question: why is the cost of labor never included?
Can’t help but notice the lack of storage space and closets. The gray was so dark, why? I wonder what the kitchen looks like. Beautiful staging which is the point. Unfortunately, first time buyers might be fooled by the staging and not think about practical family matters. I do enjoy this show though.
so, they got rid of the bedroom wardrobes to make the room look bigger, now where do they keep their clothes? I can see someone coming to view and saying " there's not much storage"
Well most the time I really like your decorating ideas but this with the wall color I think is horrid the gray if it was just a light soft gray but it wasn’t and then the brown in a bedroom I mean that was worse than than the bed unit anyway...and then you had the a buffet with some type of a curtain on it it looks like a serving table at a restaurant ...but usually by I really like your ideas and the colors that you pick so we can’t be perfect all the time...no problem just my opinion
It is just wrong to expect buyers to use their imagination - that is just stupid. Many people have no imagination, and if one expects people to have imagination, then those buyers will be lost. Picking paint colors can be very difficult, which is why people hire designers to do this for them. Obviously, the sellers here also have no imagination, except to fantasize that buyers will have the imagination that the sellers do not have. I can see why the owners covered the bedroom window with a view of an ugly brick wall. That window should have frosted glass IMO.
The owner of this home has an affinity with strong colors. When the inside of your bathroom mimics the sun it's time to perhaps tone it down a little...
Everyone should have their house exactly they way they want it. When it's time to sell, neutralize it. Very simple. My dad also loved strong vibrant colors. Orange was his favorite.
She turned her nose up at the "analog" thermostat @ 4:16 but didn't replace it (an easy fix). You can still see it # 19:05 (along with the shocking white quarter round). I'm not sure the after was much better than the before on this one.
I get the feeling that on this show the house was empty to start with was badly decorated just to show hw bad it was done. the the host come in and dishes the way it has been decorated. So they cam come in just t redecorate it. Also I don't think that the people in the episode don't won the house and are actors.
It does not cost anything to scrub the fireplace brick.
Yes! How could they leave it like that?!
I noticed that. But at least they didn't paint it over dead white the way a lot of other shows do! In a few years so many people are going to regret hiding beautiful natural woodwork and trim, furniture and brick beneath paint.
That was weird to me, too. Very dirty looking.
OMG! The quarter round should be the same color as the baseboards, NOT glow in the dark white!
there are 4 men in household.
Wife: I feel like I’m in jail during the winter..
90% of Canadians: YES WE ALL ARE!!!
The gray that was used is too dark!
I agree. Too dark, and I'm sick of gray everywhere... If you're going to go with gray, make it light and warm.
Depends on the size of the room too. My living room & kitchen are one huge room & I did gray paint & white quartz counters with a splash of dark gray & gray tile backsplash. Everybody seems to like the colors in those spaces.

Pink and black always makes me think Barbie. 🥰

Honestly loved the orange bathroom

This is from over a decade ago.
@@eccremocarpusscaber5159 Plenty of time, then, to know what it sold for and if it sold.

Grey bathroom is dreary
It was much too dark of a shade of grey for such a small room without windows! It made it look smaller and the ceiling loomed low and closed in, too.
Hm… there must be something wrong with either my eyes or my phone because I read the bathroom colour more of a light teal.. 😳🙈
OMG!!!...@ Orange everywhere makes me want to eat lots of Tangerines lol!...LUV! Elana's pitch on the PROS of having a subway station nearby.
orange creamsicle
That family is so cute, those boys are like cuddlie teddy bears
The new colors are too dark, too. More modern, but still need to be painted over.
Loved all the new colors, especially in the basement bathroom!
So...after she turned the basement back into a family room , where did the kids sleep? Also - that grey everywhere makes it look like a jail.
Presumably, they all went to sleep in Florida.
The small window in the master bedroom looks onto a brick wall. I would close it. Use a lighter colour of grey for the livingroom and dinning room. This colour gray makes the room seem small and dark.
I would put an original or reclaimed small stained glass window in there - retain the light, hide the view.
@@k.s.k.7721 That is a great idea.
@@user-bescar I agree with you. The stained glass window idea is perfect for such a tricky situation.

Yes, a lighter colours in the living room and bathroom.
Too dark grey. Why do designers overlook storage spaces. A house should not only look nice but needs space for organising things too.

You can do it!
Lol....I Loved the Tangerine Orange Bathroom! But, I know that neutral color is best. Or pale green or blue.
I understand ripping out the carpet and new paint, but buyers should remember they are not buying the furnishings.
But they don't hence the need for staging. Also the seller wants to get top dollar. If the potential buyer sees old shabby furniture then they tend to want to low ball the seller.
Throwing white sheet over glass dining room side table is also cheap looking

15:15 she notes that she is painting the 1/4 round cream color
It's kind of jarring to me.
I am always amazed by the low dollar figure when everything is added up: surely the labor component often equals 3 times, or more the cost of supplies and materials. And now my question: why is the cost of labor never included?
Possibly the show covers the cost of labor and the owners cover the cost of materials.
The show covers the labor. But this is geared towards the DIY homeowner to give you an idea of what you can accomplish yourself on a limited budget.

Woman and daughter in the end is like - yes is nice for JUST the two of us .
Family - it worked for us 🤪🤪🤪🤪🤪..😒
Love this show and the other shows. Just wished it ends showing the house sold and for how much and would like to see the new owners.
These makeovers still look outdated compare to today’s styles because these episodes are old shows from earlier 2000’s, she says it at 7:43
That orange bathroom is actually '60's...not '70's.
Orange and olive green were everywhere in the 70s.
@@twistoffate4791 and gold.

They spend too much money on junk accessories.
Quarter round paint color does not match the baseboard. She made a big deal of painting it a color to match & it sticks out like a sort thumb. lol

The time when every wall was painted grey!
How much did it eventually sell for?
1.) Space planning,

Why not remove the basketball hoop from the garage?
So, where do the boys sleep while they wait for the house to sell?
Air mattresses?
Bungalos ..heebeegeebees before and after

Too bad Sophie has no design sense🤷🏼♀️
Okay this is the first one she’s done that I’ve said “yuck” to.

6:53 the lady's face IM FINALLY GETTING HELP.
I thought the bathroom was underwhelming but otherwise WOW.
So great 👍 house
What was wrong with the Orange?????? hahaha
Such strange and awkward cinematography in this episode.....
Who knew you could get teenagers to work?
Those boys have a motivation.Move to Florida, Land of car racing and beaches full of bikini clad young ladies!
They really want to move to Florida! Ha ha!
I had an orange bedroom in our A-Frame in the 1970s, but this is too much orange.
Tea Candles look cheap.
worst videography I have seen. jumps everywhere
If they want to sell a fixer-upper, price it as a fixer-upper
The first part of the videos are so cringy and the the last 6 minutes are the Best .

So nowhere to hang your clothes and nowhere for the 3 boys to sleep! It's a tiny house and very overpriced for 2008!
There is no accounting for poor taste
Grey is such an overdone overused ugly color. Stop it, just say NO.
don’t like the restoration colours of the wall.
