    • @ariefraiser140
      @ariefraiser140 Před 7 lety +17

      I know. Most trainers say take 1 gram per bodyweight but that doesn't make sense to me since total muscles on your body is less than total body weight. I stick to .7 to .8 grams of protein per body weight and take more protein just to control my appetite. However protein seems to be the most expensive of the three macronutrients so it's cheaper to find a good protein powder to supplement with.

    I did a little research, and many people actually believe that the herbal protein is not as "effective" as animal protein, so we should better count only the animal protein in our daily intake. Is that true?

    gram/kg or gram/pound , this dilemma haunts me , there are a group of people on each side of the spectrum. Why it concerns me because it makes a HUGE difference .
    considering 1gram of protein / lb or kg / day
    If i take an example of a 200lb or 91kg man , his daily protein intake in terms of per pound would be 200gm but if its per kg it will be 91gm.....you see the difference here? It's absolutely insane.
    Apart from that it's a great video.

    Essential amino acids can come from vegetables as well. The myth that vegetables don't have all the essential amino acids was created by beef manufacturers like 50 years ago, back when meat was expensive people didn't eat a lot of it. Just putting this here because I know a lot of people still don't know any better.

    Actually the 0.8g/kg measure is the MINIMUM amount for NOT LOOSING muscle. But if you want to maximice muscle growth, the optimum number you want to get closer is more like 2-2,5g/kg. Some people go even for 3g/kg.

      Except there are several peer reviewed studies showing that a larger protein intake is beneficial when wanting to build muscles. The recommendations from people who actually study this and who have no links to the fitness industry are that one should consume about 1.8-2.4g/kg body weight of protein per day to maximize the effect of your training. When bulking one can be closer to 1.8g/kg and when cutting one should aim for 2.4g/kg. This being said, of course you can still build muscle on a lower protein intake, but the rate at which you do so will be suboptimal.

      Because there is actually such a thing as "too much protein":
      It puts stress on your kidneys, even drains your bones of minerals, and promote cancer cell growth. Dehydration and fatigue can also be a side effect, even weight gain:

      Yes, there may be side-effects to a high protein diet, but probably not below a protein intake below 3.5g/kg body weight when it comes to healthy people. Different standards apply when it come to peope with pre-existing health problems, but lets stick to healthy individuals.

      The amounts he gives are the same ones taught in biochemistry, or physiology courses in the universities ww.
      The pervasive claims of 1+g/kg are something that appears only online, not in official textbooks or literature. It seems this myth is fabricated and perpetuated by protein powders industry as an attempt to sell more.
      Excessive protein will not be stored, so you can tell by yourself. If you go to the bathroom for #2 when taking 1.5g/kg more than usually, then it should be evident it's too much. Indigestion, aerophagia, flatulence and fatigue may also occur as symptoms of taking too much protein in your nutrition.

    0.8 G of protein per kg of weight is for normal average people who doesn't work out

    is there a mistake in this video? if im nt mistaken the recommended amount of protein intake for lifters is 0.8g/LB instead of KG, if not 1g per lb

    • @abcca1482
      @abcca1482 Před 8 lety

      0.8g/kg +20g of protein for lifters is still low though..

    • @UnknownXV
      @UnknownXV Před 8 lety

      +Gym Life Yeah, but the recommended amount was referring to normal people who don't workout. As far as athletes, the +20 grams seems insufficient if they are regularly lifting weights, but that isn't part of all or even most athletic programs.
      I think I'll still to the 0.8 grams per lbs while cutting and bulking, up to 1 gram per lbs. Seems to work well.

      +Gym Life Unfortunately, there are no unequivocal approach to protein intake. Some are as low as 30 grams per day and some are upwards 200 grams. Admittedly, the video does take a much more conservative approach but factors in general population into the equation. For athletes, undoubtedly more protein is required, same goes with powerlifters and bodybuilders.

    85 grams gonna leave you lookin all sucked up. I always followed 1.4 grams per pound. So roughly 200-250.
