Toto is the best band of it's kind ever! So tasty and versatile.
DAMN STRAIGHT!!!!!
That's so true! Best description of them.
I’m so grateful I was able to see Steve play with them at least one more time two years ago. He has such a fun stage presence!
Glad I got to see him with the big hair and glasses with the 10 ft tall wall of patch cords on the Toto 4 tour!
I live 5 min from Steve, & about 2 mos ago i was driving down his street & saw him unpacking groceries as I drove on by
So where steve lives?
@@fradel8665 studio City, Ca, and that’s all I’m saying
Steve is such a great guy and so interesting to listen to. Intelligent, gracious, and a superior musician. I would love for Steve to write a book on his family and Toto.
Well said. I agree too. I would love to read an autobiography of Steve's life. After all, HE was the one dating Rosanna Arquette in addition to other hot ladies. Them Porcaro boys did well with girls for sure.
His daughter is lovely
God I hope they make more music. Their last 2 albums are some of their best!
Love to hear all the great musicians who admire the musical genius of Jeff Lynne. It's about time Jeff got proper recognition for his contributions to music.
Toto and Tears for Fears - two bands I wish I had got to see live, but never did. Love Steve, what a great guy.
I will see Toto live in our little town in south of France in July.
Seen Toto 4x, ,and saw TfF in about 90 on the Sowing the Seeds tour with Oleta Adams. The sound was so clear. Debbie Harry opened.
Steve Porcaro, really humble person.. "greatest hits" 😜
Been listening to the guys since Toto IV
and have had the pleasure meet Steve P and Luke after live gigs (they are just really great guys) and you can feel the love for what they do.They are the real deal.
I hope all of the guys Luke,David P,Joe,Steve P and dare I hope The Hungate,Bobby (let's not forget Lenny Castro) hit the studio again
and shine a light on the world.
Man, I love listening to Steve tell his stories! Excellent interview. I love his candor! More!!!
I'm honored to say I saw TOTO last Fall at the end of the tour. LOVE the band.
I have admired Steve's genius since early 80's. To meet him a few times during these past ten years has been nothing but awesome. For the Porcaro family I have nothing but the deepest respect and admiration.
Amazing energy, focus, clarity. Dig Steve . Thx for interview.
Really appreciate your channel and what you do. Steve seems like a great guy. Just a down to earth guy you could have a beer with who also just happens to be magic.
Saw Toto 3 times live. Very thankful for all those live performances. Grew up with them since the late 70's and I think I have every one of their records. Amazing stuff and love the musicianship.
Class act! Thx Steve.
Next Toto lineup 2022. Steve Lukather, David Paich, Steve Porcaro, Joseph Williams, David Hungate, Bobby Kimball, and Simon Phillips. They're all still alive, go Big or go Home
No disrespect but I have seen Toto with Simon and Shannon Forrest. I believe Shannon plays Jeff better than Simon. I prefer Shannon to Simon at least in the Toto world. Simon is a ridiculous musician without a doubt but I enjoyed Shannon's work with Toto a little bit better.
That's exactly the lineup I'm hoping for too, Slim. Life is way too short and fragile for all the childish pettiness and unforgiveness that plagues the music industry. By the way, Toto doesn't even have to tour either. For crying out loud, these days bands can put together top-notch albums without ever having to leave their home! I'd be more than happy if the guys you mentioned would just keep recording music together, kind of like the Beatles did post-1965.
Not going to happen. Steve Porcaro and Simon Phillips have left the band and are not coming back, Paich has health problems and is not going out on the road, Hungate is retired, and Bobby Kimball is suffering from dementia. So any next Toto will be Lukather, Williams and whoever else they choose to play with them.
@@sundet81 Well I can dream can't I? Didn't know that about Bobby, I'll say some prayers for that Cat
Me or Simon, I was Jeff's stablemate w Joe..Keltner used to do all the tours that I was offered, cause he played on da record..I'm Robert Plants age..forget it
I've played Ringo's drums on ?someone's? Drumkit..I need a little help in da rainforest with saving my house
I charge &play w Solar now..need putty! Build a Studio? Alohas
Never got to see the original Toto in concert. I feel blessed just to have followed them through the years!
And I forgot to add to y comment below that I am a music industry guy, having managed record labels, and being a tour manager and tech. That a
way makes me day. Thanks so much! Keep up the great work:)
Love Steve. Saw him with Toto in Sydney. Great guy and amazing artist. Toto is the best! Bring it on.
Toto's music has a calming effect on me
Check out Jake To The Bone or Gypsy Train. Those ones will make you want to hit the gym!!
Saw Steve Porcaro live with Toto twice: 1986 and 2015. Great musician and best dancer of Toto. 🤣😎👌 1986 was still with Jeff Porcaro - legendary. 🥰❤
Steve seems to be quite melancholic in this interview. A certain period in his life might be finished. Thanks for your phantastic contributions, Steve! 👌❤ And I hope for a comeback. 😉
Jeffwas the genuis. .We miss him steve . Life goes on and it was the best band of the 1980. Respect.
I'm watching this video and thinking, "he's lost two brothers in this adventure". No small deal. To me, Steve doesn't owe anyone anything and has nothing to prove. He (and his family) have poured themselves out entertaining fans for so many decades.
I'm surprised he hasn't fully retired from the road with no apologies.
@@aubindemontfalcon5967 Yeah, great memories! ❤👌
Steve is the man... such a gift to the world!
Great interview! 👍
I feel blessed to have seen TOTO three times and met the band. I love Steve Porcaro and I really will miss him playing in the TOTO band. All the guys are fantastic! :)
His compositions/songs have that special mood and they were recognized from first notes. I loved those songs and for me is a big lost not to have Steve Porcaro in band. Fortunately I was in the concert in Lodz in Poland (recorded for DVD) and in Wroclaw a few years later and I have seen him playing - amaizing.
This is another great group. Toto. Love this group.
Great! 👍🏻👏🏻👍🏻👏🏻
From this interview, now I know what a humble person Steve Porcaro is..
Steve is the Best ! the way he talks and moves . when he talks about old times . gear and all that , he is so animated and sincere,
its a delight !!! i can proudly say that i had a chance to talk to him for 4 , 5 minutes in Grand rapids . My family we were driving through a little hip neighborhood and remembered a corner restaurant , and i look from the car over to the outside seating , and there was this guy sitting there that so looked like Steve. my two boys know all the ToTo songs , so i said of course to them "I just saw Steve porcaro over there " i turned around and put my SD card in with a Yamaha Motif demo of mine of "Africa' ....i turned around opened all the windows and cranked it up loud , and as we slowly drove by i shouted over to him "Is this Steve??......is this you Steve???..." he smirked and looked down and bobbed his head like "confessing" "YES ITS ME " so damn cute . i parked the car and took my older son 5 at the time and walked over to him , and he graciously let me interrupt him having his Lunch with his wife. of course Jeffs name came up. and all i ca say in retrospect , he is a true gentleman and just fun to talk to . later we saw them in concert , and it was Glorious.
Human Nature is a timeless classic we should all be thanking you for. The keyboard solo for Africa is awesome
Africa solo was created and played by David Paich.

It broke my heart in 2008 when Luke was pushed into spelling it out for the world in no uncertain terms that "Toto was done, Toto was no more..." - Then with the reformation in 2010...
At least the close of this chapter is a far softer landing for the fans; it's more of an open book. We can't know when we'll see the band perform again and we can't know what the band's lineup will ultimately look like but I think at some point Toto will have an itch it'll want to scratch. - And I'll be there!
I hope it’s not the end. I love Toto! 😭
Me too, there’s a song Till the end,and this words
We're at the start and time will tell
Till the end
I was so pleased that Steve namechecked Gary Wright who I think has made such great music on his own and with Spooky Tooth. So underrated and so great as far as I’m concerned.
I finally had a chance to see Toto two years ago in Morristown, N.J. and was foiled by a freak, late fall snowstorm. I then lost out on seeing Luke at Irridium in N.Y. due to the virus. Hope to see him with Ringo this summer, but I will always regret missing the entire band.
I love your channel John.
Love Steve Porcaro ! Pretty talented musician
Love this guy's attitude.
You would think that Susan would be above petty shit like that. Her husband is some 7 figure CEO dude. She has tons of money. Sad. Keep up the great interviews. Best music channel on YT.
He’s the CEO of Tupperware.
A truly classy dude: Steve Porcaro.
Steve Porcaro Thank your for speaking up and just saying what could solve these lawsuits.
I know it pains you to have to address because it involves your family and ex sister in law.
It's a shame the lawsuits put the breaks on Toto the band (temporarily) and a Porcaro Brother's documentary that your own sister with her husband want to do.
Thank you John Beaudoin for this interview with Steve
How could I have missed this?! Toto and Steve Lukather of course were one of the main influences in my formative years. Great interview! (I did one for your station back in 2010 with Chuck Loeb, remember?) Hope, you're doing alright, it looks great from what I see, kudos!
Very nice Format. Would love to see the entire talks in one single video.
The whole thing has been online for quite a while now. Here is the link. Thanks for asking and watching! czcams.com/video/hqyxZzjS6bk/video.html

Greatest band Ever
I think there’ll be another Toto album. Touring as a band as we know it? Mmm, maybe not.
Even in the recent past Paich dips his toe in now and again.
Without Paich and Steve P on stage, it’s just “Luke’s Toto”.
Of course I’d go see Luke any day of the week but, it’s just not what we want.
I don’t have a problem really with replacement players in bands. Kansas, fir instance, is in the best situation they’ve ever been in, arguably.
And, this most recent Toto team was top notch and I’d love to see all of the same players together again. But, if their heart isn’t in it.....
I love you Toto 👄🎸😍 for ever 🇲🇫
Hi John! David Hungate is my Uncle! :) Steve is such a great guy!!!! I did not actually get to meet Steve until David returned to the band in 2014. As you know, David left the band after TOTO IV and moved back to the Nashville Scene. Maybe you could do an interview with David? :)
Hi Darren, I communicated with David when he was on Facebook (I think he's off the platform now) I would love to chat with him. Can you help us with that? How do I contact him? He's had such a great career with many stories to share. Can you contact me through our Facebook page?facebook.com/rockhistorybook/
@@RockHistoryMusic I will be going to visit him in Feb 2021. He lives in the Nashville Area. We chat at least once a week. Let me speak with him and see what I can maybe arrange. 😀
Hi Darren, Thanks so much...John
@@RockHistoryMusic would love to see an interview with David Hungate. 🥰
@@RockHistoryMusic Are you able to do the live interview from a smart phone. How does it work?
National treasure…like all of Toto. Love him!
Lawsuits and Lawyers are the end of this industry. Tired of seeing the dismantle of great musicians. Who's right whose wrong pay millions to prove where the Ego lies
I agree... But what you said kind of sounds like lyrics to a song...!
Toto are great, though I'm not a big fan. However, after seeing numerous interviews with Steve Porcaro I watch everything with his name attached. What a fine fellow. And I love the fact that he wants to get back to his studio. Good for him.
Steve Porcaro, all class!!! Unlike Luke who just spews vile hatred and venom after getting caught with his pants down. Without the Porcaro's Toto would not exist.
@cjetelomar2010 Just check out his interviews, especially from a few months ago. He seems to really hate not only the widows, but Steve P. as well.
Luke also sort of mocked Steve's solo career on Facebook and released what is basically a diss track at least partly directed at him (Along For The Ride) like a gangsta rapper.
I'm a big fan of them both but really disappointed in Lukather's public ranting and vague recounting of events - with no one really, truly explaining what happened, how am I supposed to know who I should be supporting in this sad breakup?
Totally,totally agree with you.
The option of going forward as "Steve Lukather's Toto" is definitely better than no Toto at all. Steve P says he thinks and hopes that it will happen. Hope so...
John thanks for the interview? Question? you wrote on the video that some members went to court WITH Jeff widow against Steve and David? or Toto Members went to court because of Jeff widow? please clarify that. thanks
♥
He's a cool dude .
I agree Steve Lukather’s Toto. Legalities break up many a band. Love the most underrated band EVER!
What’s with the big black box at the bottom center of the screen?
Steve, your studio is your spotlight? Its your Toto...in its purist form. Toto was all of you and the magic you all made together. just like Van Halen, Boston, Journey...Pantera!!!! That magic only goes so far. Peace to you, and thank you for your magic.
I saw Toto last week
Don't pressure the man. TOTO has always been an organic band that interchanges personnel as required just as long as there are three original key members present. Paich and Luke are the foundation along with a Porcaro in the mix. As Steve is the only surviving brother, he can't not be a part of TOTO whereas the band is lucky to be able to alternate Bobby and Joe as vocalists. Simon comes and goes as their official drummer and Greg fills in for David whenever he needs time off. As long as you have any of those 3 key members, TOTO is good to go.
Steve pointed out well old ex wives causing issues. Lukather has been in every version of Toto he’s held the name up for a long time
Don't know how truthful he's being. Interesting to hear him talk nice about Luke when, by Luke's account, they hadn't talked for almost a year at this point.
That's because Luke had become a sad whiney piece of shit since his solo records haven't been selling and he's can't give credits to his dead co-writers
If I play music I play it for myself for my pleasure for my enjoyment of other like it it welcome that's it
So call the band OTTO and go on.
TOOT! OTOT, OOTT, TTOO
weel, we have a sherlock holmes here
hehehehe
That's a Toot!
Nooooo! Say it ain't so, Toto! I only made it to one Toto show, and they didn't do "99"! I need one more chance!
Steve seems very healthy and clear headed. Lukather not so much.
I agree, Lukather as talented as he is, seems so bitter. I don’t think he has coped well with getting older.
It must be awkward for him in one sense to be related ( albeit by marriage) to the woman in question...twould be interesting if he followed Luke's lead and wrote a book?! Mind you, I always thought with 'The gospel...' that there was a lot more he wanted to say, but couldn't.
He is still an uncle to Jeff's kids
Steve played on Yes,Union
Toto Africa and Rosanne are two evergreen songs that will last forever
Steve Lukather Band Plays the Music of Toto?
Las Vegas residency!
It's not Toto without a Porcaro in the group. Yes Luke, we're talking to you.
Luke knows that. That was one of the reasons why he and Dave ended the band in 2008.
I'm not that into toto unless there's David Paich, a Porcaro being Steve now, and Simon Phillips. Nathan East was an awesome fill in for Mike. Not exactly the same kind groove but a good player nonetheless.
Love Nathan, but Lee Sklaar was better with them IMHO.
Hey TOTO, Steve P, or Rock History Music...
GEN X, 1965 ....Why did TOTO do most of their gigs and tours internationally and very few USA 🇺🇸 TOURS?
We’re not in TOTO anymore Kansas !
What's the black box in the lower middle of the picture hiding?
When we did the Live feed with Steve P. our "Rock History Music" logo was embedded on the screen but in our everyday videos it';s always on the left so we didn';t want two Logos. That's why we blacked out the middle one. You're not the first to ask. Thanks for watching.
It’s a sad thing to know about Luke and Dave being sued for enrichment, Jeff’s widow doesn’t know that in order to go on tour, the band (Luke, Dave, Steve himself) risk money and invest in hired musicians, equipment, transportation, crew payroll, with the hope to sell and get green numbers, if a gig doesn’t sell favorably, they lose money, money that Jeff’s widow never risked, not tour no earnings, so, what about investing money on the tour in order to receive a share?
They should reform and play under the name "Dorothy's pet"
Masked Vigilante lol
Hey Kansas, I have a feeling we are not in Toto anymore 😂
I like “Dorothy’s Pet” alot better than “Japanese Toilet” 🚽
Noooooo!
Love Garry Wreight. !
John Beaudin is channelling William Shatner and Robert Downey Jr
Great interview ! Luke got murdered in court and is extremely bitter, reality is today Toto is a cover band, I saw the band in 1982 absolutely incredible !! Bobby Kimbal was unbelievable ! years ago when I heard Luke fired him I said to myself Toto just lost there original sound forever now over the years and about 25 different musicians 12 different versions of the Toto cover bands Luke needs to move on ! Joe Williams is far from the real Bobby Kimbal sound ! a very sad end to one of my favorite all time bands.
Every iteration of Toto has kicked butt, including this one. Bobby Kimball is not Toto, far from it.
I say that as someone who was there, not some youngster btw
In rock music it's always all about money!
Fenix Toto
Toto as much as I love 'em , had all the record's too, should just pack it in, without Paich Kimball, and Steve P , It aint TOTO and nothing against Lukather and Williams but bringing in hired guns, to replace The original 3 i mentioned , TOTO is now another tribute band, the glory days are gone. And Im well aware of Paich and Kimballs health problems,
I agree, for me it's not Toto anymore and that is the reason why Luke already quit once back in 2007. But you can't fault the guys for trying to cash in as much as possible on their old day, it's not their fault they can keep going for a longer time than other band members.
yes i feel same way if theres no porcaro or paich its not toto
They are not a tribute band. They are as much a parody band of themselves as Bobby's lautesten attempts. So sad to see Luke become a puppet in his own theater
On world tour right now and ripping
I was guaranteed a slot to roadie for Toto back in the day. Turned it down because I was 21 year old punk guitarist who was scared of anything outside of my normal wheelhouse. Oh well. Shit happens, as they say.
I had the same thing happen to me. I had an opportunity to be a keyboard tech for a major artist but was 24 and scared and too uncomfortable to do it.
The name elo or jethro Tull will always put more bums on seats than just Ian Anderson and Jeff Lynne even if they are the main men . 👍
Maybe Totoette?
Good or bad, nothing lasts forever (except of course for degrees of corrupt politicians).
the only thing that will make the end of Toto is if Luke leaves the band because he is the identify of the Band , his sound is Toto , everybody else can be replaced but Luke is the only one that can't be replaced , Love the Band
True, Luke is the glue that has held every form of Toto together. When he's gone, it's over.
The end of Toto - again?
🙏🥰♥️🦋🦋🌈🌈♥️🌞♥️
It's Steve Porcaro's fault that there is a rift between him Luke, and the rest of the band because he chose his family first before the band over the whole lawsuit ordeal.
It's the opposite, when old non vital members go out with the name, drag a bands rep down, (ala Michael Clarke with his version of The Byrds) and later on, people are afraid to go see the Platters with no real members just scrubs, so if you call it Jeff Lynne's ELO, you know that you are getting the real deal.
Steve Porcaro imatches the answer the late Ric Ocasek said to the same question.
RO felt more comfortable in the studio.
You don`t have to use the name. Everyone knows these guys anyway, and goes to the concert.
Toto can't use the name? the same thing happened to the original Little river band members.
One last concert after covid come on
All I care about is the music. Who cares what they call it.
