2024 Winter Field Day - Icom IC-7100 + ZS6BKW Antenna

My friend Tom VA3WBA and I take to the ham radio airwaves with his Icom IC-7100 and his homebrew ZS6BKW wire antenna for the 2024 Winter Field Day activity. How will this combination perform in the freezing cold?

Golden Horseshoe was renamed by in 2023 RAC to align with our ARES/CANWARN sections here in Canada. Yes it sometimes confusing for recipients but we got it done.

The ZS6BKW is my “Go To” HF portable antenna! It works great. Good coverage and decent performance.

Interesting and great video. BUT.....Way too cold for me to setup outside. I have to give you two guys credit for doing so. Even if it was only for a hour. For 50 watts and a hunk of wire, you guys did great.

I am very happy with my homebrew ZS6BKW. Only Difference on my Version is the Military Wire from the German Bundeswehr I use as a Radiator.

Yep, the Achilles heel of the zs6bkw is no 15m without lots of tuner loss. Great antenna but for solar max I want 15 every outing.
