Surprisingly articulate? You clearly haven't spent much time amongst mushrooms; every one I've been around has been an intelligent fun guy.
the fact that nier has like, 20 fake endings, means you guys could make a tier list for funniest fake ending from nier
One of the neutral endings of _Undertale_ involve a dog becoming king of the Underground and making everyone live the perfect life
It also has the shortest epilogue dialogue, with Sans basically just saying "idk how but a dog's king now and life is great for everyone. Thanks." And hanging up.
I've been getting into other fandoms while waiting for Deltarune Chapters 3 and 4, but I'll never forget that ending. A true masterpiece.
"Neutral" That's the best ending imo
In one of the endings of Chrono Trigger Princess Marle walks around her castle, confused at people asking her why she bothers wearing a mask inside. She then learns that her battle companion from the past, Frog, ended up going back to his time and marrying her ancestor, Queen Leene. As a consequence, every one of Leene's descendants is now a human/frog hybrid, including Marle, who to her horror ribbits and realizes that she _is_ wearing a mask right before it cuts to credits.
I prefer the ending where you dont kill the reptites, go fight Lavos and then the ending is a reenactment of the beginning of the game but instead everyone is a reptite
So like... the Shadow over Innsmouth but with frogs?
@Baltaczar One of the endings of Chrono Cross is a remake of this ending. Of the two, I like Cross' version better.
Imagine getting these endings in the time before the internet. You'd go about your life thinking you got the only ending available, and it was weird. You wouldn't know until you saw this video that there was such a thing as a joke ending.
That Sun ending in Outer Worlds is definitely a case of “I fly with my feelings (rather than lasers).”
Fly by vibes 😂
What's even funnier about Paul is that in Tekken 3, he canonically wins the Iron Fist tournament and defeats Ogre's first form, but doesn't stick around to fight the second form. And he always manages to fight Kuma, for some reason
Yeah. I also think in the second tournament he is disqualified from the finals because he got stuck in traffic and didn't show. In the first 3 games he always got far into the tournament. Personally I always liked Paul, especially before he became more of a joke character.
The only thing that would've made the Mister Mushroom ending better would've been if they'd found a way to license "Don't Stop Me Now" by Queen.
My headcanon is that Mr. Mushroom ended up somewhere in the Samarost games.
I very rarely give any comments a thumbs up but you deserve it.
Although I now can't hear that song without immediately thinking of the pub scene from Shaun of The Dead.
Seeing him blast off first thing that came to mind was "I must go my people need me"
@@hjalfi I like that, he fits right in with Amanita Games' vibe - especially Botanicula
In the fan-made game adaptation of “The Room”, if you collect all of the spoons hidden throughout San Francisco, aliens turn the earth into a spoon.
Clearly the Issac Ending is telling us he IS Dr. Fetus, and TBoI is a prequel to Super Meat Boy, who along with Bandage Girl were flayed alive by Issac in a twisted religious ritual like in Martyrs.
😯
Hmm.... Cenobite horrors would explain a lot of Super Meat boy...
There were so many joke endings in the Tekken series. Many never fail to entertain or make you laugh. Tekken had some good stuff. Honestly, these guys should do an entire video of picking anywhere between the best 10-20.
Heihachi getting younger... to then become Kuma from Tag Tournament is a classic
I loved it when Kuma kicked the Mishima family out of the airlock in Tekken 5... and then Ganryu later shows up to see some meteors.
Also in Tekken Tag 2 when the "grandpa" characters had a meeting and talked about the "wuss" developers who couldn't kill them off for good.
That’s what I’m saying. I don’t even think it can be considered a joke ending when basically all of tekkens characters endings are insane in one way or another
I don't know how weird it is, but one jokey ending I really love is in the Bard's Tale ARPG. There are two opponents at the end who try to get you to fight against the other. You can choose either as the final boss or, as a third option, tell them both to kiss off and skip out for drinks at the local pub as the demon apocalypse rages around you.
“Who says the undead don’t know how to party?”
Isn't that the one that says "ah, forget it" and just converts the vendor trash to gold automatically, after the first few random drops?
Silksong is going to have one hell of a Mister Mushroom arc...
I remember The Secret of Monkey Island having an alternative/joke ending. The proper ending is Guybrush and Elaine romantically watching the fireworks caused by LeChuck exploding. I remember (and I swear that this is true although no-one else seems to remember it), Guybrush saying how beautiful it is, and Elaine saying "Yes it is beautiful. I can't wait to tell my husband." Cue Guybrush glancing despondently at you, the player.
I always just assumed that line from Elaine was a result of Guybrush trying for something approaching smooth, when he's very much not. I also tended to assume that Elaine's husband from that line is from Canada, and Guybrush has just always managed to miss him.
I'm partial to the spacetime ending in Outer Wilds. If you cause a paradox by either preventing your scout from entering the black hole after it exits the white hole at the High Energy Lab or not going into the black hole in the ATP when you did the loop before, then all of reality shatters. Which leads to a bunch of joke credits orchestrated with kazoos, apparently.
Monkey Island 2, even beyond the weirdness of that game's actual end sequence, has a great alternate ending if you use the keyboard shortcut to 'win' the game artificially. As well as the game simply declaring 'You win!' and cutting straight to the credits (no matter how far you'd progressed), the only post-credit scene is that of a baffled Elaine saying 'I wonder what I'm doing standing next to this hole?' in Dinky Island.
My skill set definitely prevented me from knowing that House of the Dead III had any endings.
I personally only finished two light gun games in my life: Revolution X (yes, the Aerosmith shooter...and in one credit, actually) and CarnEvil (which I only beat with massive cash input). From what I remember, neither really had any "ending"...so I wouldn't really expect others to have them (except that I think that the House of the Dead series had actual endings in previous games).
Honestly, you can fill this whole list Nier Automata joke endings, though one of my favourites is the one where 9S fucks off from the starting mission of route B all because he wanted to study the machines
This reminds me of Borderlands 3 - at some point late in the game, there's an explosion or something and then the screen goes black and says "To be continuted in 4". And I remembered getting so pissed (bc it implied you'd have to finish the story in a 4th game) and then it started counting down to 1 and then the game resumed. I was so frickin annoyed they messed with me like that lmfao
That's great.
Spoiler warning for Superliminal🛑
There is a joke ending in the puzzle indie game Superlimnal where, halfway through the game, you come across a chess piece that lures you in the direction you just came from. If you follow it long enough, you will be taken to a surveillance center the chess piece has headphones on and turns towards you on a desk chair only to then immediately go to the credits. However, here all the images in the credits that were actually filled with moments from the game were replaced with images of cute dogs (this is probably a reference to Silent Hil's Two Secret Dogo Ending)
🐕🐶
Somebody at Obsidian Entertainment really loves low Intelligence and ice cream, don't they?
I mean, another similar instance (though not an ending) is in Fallout: New Vegas where, at the REPCONN headquarters, if you have an Intelligence stat of 2 or less (or Luck at 7 or more, but that's beside the point), you will be able to correctly guess a password to turn the guarding robots passive.
The password in this case being ice cream.
What I find funny is that not only serves to also skip having to pay 2k caps or getting a passport to initially enter the Strip, the high Science skill equivalent is simply 'ice cream' too but in '1337'
In OX favourite VTM Bloodlines (specifically the Plus version of the Unofficial Patch), you have to activate the werewolf Easter egg in the Luckee Star Motel.
Once you've done that, then during the end of the game's final confrontation with LaCroix, you can pick a new dialogue option: "I've seen the easter egg werewolf, now I want to see the easter egg ending!"
Then LaCroix will be replaced with a dancing werewolf, you start dancing with him, Daniel Ash's "Come Alive" plays, and the credits roll.
Spoilers list:
0:20 Hollow Knight
1:59 The Outer Worlds
4:27 The House of the Dead III
6:05 Silent Hill Origins
7:41 Tekken 5
9:27 The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth
10:24 Nier Automata
I may not see a cape, but I do see a hero
Thank you!!
Not all heroes wear capes
@@aereon_gaming Why are you all assuming I don't wear a cape?
The Ice cream ending reminds me of the Fallout NV high luck dialogue security check.😂.
i have never even seen him before but now i'm in love with mister mushroom.
The dog ending from Silent Hill 2 is both cute but also a wtf moment all wrapped into one. Also, I can never get over the ending of Silent Hill Downpour, where Pyramid head shows up to cut the cake
How about the "dog ending" from Undertale? You get it via killing _ONLY_ Toriel, Papyrus, Undyne, and Mettaton (the ones who would become leader of the Underground in any normal playthrough), harming no other monsters whatsoever.
“Widely regarded by me” is a perfect turn of phrase, no notes.
Bard's Tale. One of the possible ending is, if you can't decide between helping an evil girl or a good priest, you can just gtfo and breakdance with some skeletons.
Are you dead, dead, dead?
The Broom Closet ending is my favorite
I find this comment concerning.
Oh yes, I loved the Broom Closet ending!
11:47 Wait, what?
No Joke Ending Video Ending Joke?
What a Joke...
Why is this comment not pinned?
"This is the closest Hollow Knight gets to a joke."
Sir, have you fought Zote the Mighty, a knight of great renown? I'm not talking about Grey Prince Zote, I mean just... Zote.
They've said a couple of weird things about HK, so I'm guessing they haven't played it. In some other video the infection was "lava", if I remember correctly.
@@perlundgren7797 At least ONE member of the team has played Hollow Knight... I think.... I might have them confused with Playstation Access...
Hollow Knight actually has a lot of charming jokes like that, they're just few and far between and don't overstay their welcome. I love the little breaths of fresh air in a world that feels so... sad.
Then after Zote happens, Tiso happens and you're sad again-
They are ONE AND THE SAME! He's just so Invincible, Fearless, Sensual, Mysterious, Enchanting, Vigorous, Diligent, Overwhelming, Gorgeous, Passionate, Terrifying, Beautiful, and Powerful! How could I possibly forget powerful! What. A. Man!
2:48 "Literally everyone else in the ..." gave me the Oxventure tickles only to have me phlump to the floor feeling gotcha'd.
Outer wilds "terrible fate" or "spacetime" ending. Super funny kazoo theme to accompany you trying really hard to break the universe
If you're going to do Joke Endings, Silent Hill 3... takes the Alien ending from SH1, and takes it to a new level... with Harry and James both there! Though Harry's voice... man...
And then there's the song at the end! There's no way to describe it other than to just listen!
The Steam game "World of Horror" has an excellent homage/parody of the Blue Stone ending that you can get after buying said stone from a store run by a Shiba Inu and then traversing the town solving a rather obscure puzzle. Best ending in the game, hands down. Worth every second.
That Tekken ending is actually just a normal Tekken ending. There are like 3 in one where different characters are toed to a space rocket.
"You drive stick?" had me dead
I like the Broom Closet ending in The Stanley Parable
Oh, you got the Broom Closet ending? The Broom Closet ending is my favourite.
The mister mushroom sounds like Charlie Browns teacher.’
I agree. The ice cream ending is always the good ending. "...and then they had ice cream afterwards" should be the new "...and they lived happily ever after." (reference: appx. 4:25)
Where others see an opportunity for a few throw away jokes, Suda51 saw an entire genre of storytelling; the greatest genre: 'Wait... what? Huh?'
I like the Mackerel ending in Nier Automata. "But it was so delicious....." lol
My favorite joke ending comes from BlazBlue: Continuum Shift. It has Rachel Alucard knocking out Ragna the Bloodedge and sticking a pair of weird pink glasses on him, identified by her butler (Valkenhyne) as the "Glasses of Eros." As you can imagine, it makes the entirety of the female cast fall in love with and fight over Ragna (and his brother Jin, funny enough, goes from fratricidal maniac to yandere brocon psychopath). Absolutely hilarious. XD
Funny that you chose the Nier ending where she goes fishing because there's also an ending when you eat a fish as 2B and instantly die.
And one which 2B removes her own CPU.
@@TheBlackSeraph Technically that's removing the OS, but similar result!
@@TheBlackSeraphThat was the first one I ever got. I mean, if they will give you that warning and then give you the option of removing it...
To be fair Paul's ending in every Tekken was hilarious 😂 especially in Tekken 2 😂😂😂
Sometimes I've referred to The White Chamber as "Silent Hill the Point and Click" as it features some strange symbolic horror representing the main character's potential redemption arc, as well as intense music. It's also worth mentioning, though, that it's also part Dead Space, given how an alien artifact is responsible for the horrors Sarah travels through. But just like Silent Hill, there is a joke ending. And it's just given to you if you perform perfectly, maxing out the karma meter. The karma meter will determine your fate, ranging from escape to torment. If you show every act of kindness possible and make sure to follow a certain instruction, it will turn out your friends were working on a surprise party and... I guess distracting you with weird horrors. I have to wonder just how stabbing her with a tentacle (not like THAT) or almost getting her sucked into space played into the surprise party thing. Eh, maybe it's just the Artifact trolling her. But regardless, the friends are weird; one's obsessed with cake, one's obsessed with Japan, one's a pirate I guess, and one is a stereotypical nerd.... And then the space station gets hit with a meteor anyway, making a silly sound. And Wyles is singing on it. Why? ... Why not?
No Outer Wilds with the "You Broke the Universe" ending? It even gives you the iconic music played by kazoos.
Those two OuterWrolds endings were the first two I got because my first play through I purposefully lowered my Int to 0. Totally worth it
I still keep a save standing at Heather's apartment door in Silent Hill 3 just to view that games UFO ending whenever the fancy takes me.
It's got some pretty long-ish pre-requisites. so I can see why a lot of people won't ever see it. Also it's my PC version so save pretty much anywhere. (Though there's a normal save point 10 steps away from that door anyway to be fair.)
2 videos in a day? What heathen deity did I please?
"Why is this number negative?" It matches how I feel, Halcyon.
In castle crashers you finally save the purple haired princess and like the others you duel to the death for a kiss but unlike the others you see a clown doing a dance in the end
I do kind of love that there's like a whole other, much sillier Silent Hill universe only glimpsed in the joke endings to each game, in which everyone is abducted by aliens all the time and super-intelligent dogs run everything. Someone want to make a game set in that universe? I mean, we're not getting any more sequels in the actual Silent Hill. . .
How could you leave out the greatest Joke ending ever at the ending of Halo Combat Evolved when you play and win on the Legendary setting? Sargent Johnson and the Elite hug each other just before the Pillar of Autumn explodes!
I want a wise Mr. Mushroom in my life, his voice is adorable.
I was amazed to see a video lead by Andy about Joke endings that wasn't just a collection of the times we wanted to track down Ron Gilbert and tie him to the tracks of a roller coaster...
Mortal Shell has a joke ending where you decide to give up on the main plot and chill with your friend Baghead by a bonfire, while jamming out on a lute. I’d hardly call it secret though as you can trigger it very easily near the beginning of the game just by bringing Baghead a few easily found items. It also boots you back to the last save point after the credits roll, so the game technically doesn’t end either
One of my favorite joke endings is the joke ending of the RPGMAKER game OFF, in which space apes descend onto the now-lifeless world to use the factories leftover by all the dead denizens to build robots to fight brain aliens. It is an amazingly stupid joke ending for such a doom and gloom game, and I believe was made intentionally as a reference to Silent Hill's habit of joke endings.
Also everything in Monster Prom/Camp that isn't one of the main romance endings basically qualifies, and it's really, really hard to pick a favorite one.
Twisted Metal 2: Hammerhead's ending was particularly funny.
Calypso is a walking, breathing monkey paw at the best of times. These two idiots didn't stand a chance.
Ooh, the one where the two wanted to fly but didn't realize they got plane tickets! Calypso saying he's relieved the tickets were refundable implies that he bought them for the two. That was hysterical! But the criteria is that these joke endings were kinda strange, and Hammerhead's ending made sense. I think the endings of Twisted Metal 3 were more strange, including one where the Hammerhead driver of that ending was made into a Clockwork Orange reference just cause Granny Dread just wanted to watch TV.
9:17 "hordes of flying saucers"
Needs more ACK sound effects
Ack? Ack aaccck?
ACK! AACK ACK ACCKKK!!
Coming here from your Sequels video, and started crying when I saw you uploaded on the other channel too. Things have been super rough, my dad died, and things have just been all around awful, but the fact I can come here like always and still be made to laugh in spite of everything, and can still laugh despite the pain, makes it feel like it isn’t all so hopeless.
Thank y’all for the work you do to keep our spirits lifted. 🥹❤
Sorry for your loss. Things won't be awful forever.
so I'm pretty sure the ice cream ending of Outer Worlds is a holdover from an earlier idea when playing as a low intelligence chracter was supposed to make that your entire motivation for the entire game was trying to get an icecream, an idea which understandably was too complicated to justify implementing given budget and time constraints on development
I’m always pumped for a new outside box video
7:34 with the way hes lookin at that alien ill be so upset if theres no fanfiction about them flying off and falling in love and opening an intergalactic bed and breakfast and being happy together with their space dog
... I never thought to look for this, but now I'll be upset if this hasn't happened.
@@goranisacson2502 keep me updated soldier I know next to nothing about the source so idk if i can look for it myself 👍
Wyrms pull bugs into their thrall,
'til ages pass and kingdoms fall,
caps and shells may fall to dust,
but Mr. Mushroom readjusts...
Hey, this is giving me a video suggestion idea, best original poems in videogames! I wonder if you could count the Minecraft ending too...
DDLC and Hollow Knight both have some genuinely good ones (DDLC obviously because it's a literature club lol but HK has some genuinely lovely/haunting poems in its worldbuilding)
There's also some weirdly good poems in Splatoon 2, interesting not so much based on content but based on the fact that creators INVENTED a poem form for the worldbuilding of Octolings based on Japanese Haiku, consisting of 8 lines with 4 syllables each (if i remember right? Its been years since I read them) but is a really interesting lore thing.
@@drawingdragon That's cool as hell actually, I've only played the first game but I love when lore and world-building has some real (and cultural) depth to it
"Widely regarded, by me-"
I admit on the multi ending on the arcade of 'House of the Dead' I spent quarters on "WTF" ending. And the only clue was the score on the cabinet arcade machine. LOL
I'm so angry that the broom closet ending wasn't in here, the broom closet ending is my favorite. (Stanley Parable)
Can confirm, I got the weird ending of Binding of Issac. And had no idea it was referencing anything.
It's a deep cut reference in Monkey Island when you fall off a cliff on to rubber trees and get a faux Sierra Games Game Over screen before Guybrush returns to the cliff after a bouncing
As a veteran of several Sierra games, by that point I was actually trying to see if LucasArts would let me die.
Same.@@boobah5643
Disgaea 2 had an ending where you try to get the powerful Demon Senate to use their power to skip you to the ending already. They Do, but the ending is the previous game's Mid- Boss shows up to give you a Final Boss Fight for cheating and trying to skip the rest of the story. If you win, you get an ending where you watch the credits with Mid-Boss's face in the background.
IIRC you can get this ending well before other characters from the first Disgaea game come back, so as far as you know this was an entirely separate story, like Final Fantasy games. That adds to the surprise.
Disgaea 2 (and I'm sure later games in the series) had TONS of hilarious jape endings. Managed to kill the Level 2000 Etna in her Chapter 3 fixed-loss encounter, when your party is supposed to be like level 20 or something? Oh yeah, you get an ending for that. She get so unbelievably pissed that she lost that she nukes the whole planet, ending the game and forcing the credits. Gets kinda annoying when you are doing New Game+ and you have very leveled characters.
you can literally get an early joke ending just by losing to Axel in the very first fight you have with him xD
There's Trespasser, were you get to listen to John Hammond quoting "Ozymandias".
Amazing video, like always!!!
Can’t believe you didn’t include the joke ending in knights of the old republic, where you destroy the star forge and bring peace to the galaxy
Or the one where you turn Malak into a Twi’lek dancer
Stick shift UFO?? Definitely need that as a game
No, you don't understand how UFOs work. You fly the UFOs with your mind. You sit on the stick to become one with the controls.
The "elope" ending in indie game Mogeko Castle.
It's also the only ending in the game I consider to be a happy one!
You drive stick? HA. Especially with the aliens accent.
DID YOU GET THE BROOM CLOSET ENDING! THE BROOM CLOSET ENDING IS MYYYY FAVORITE XD
Surely Hollow Knight gets closer to a joke with the Zote boss fight in the Arena?
To be fair, it's easier to count the Tekken endings that AREN'T joke endings...
Yeah, I feel like only the one true canon ending is written seriously.
@@marhawkman303 and half the canon endings are still silly as hell. How many identical 'tag-you're-it' cliff-tosses have there been? Esp the one with kazuya's goofy ass polygonal grin. Or Heihachi getting NANI?!?'d thru a mile of earth, having the intro explicitly tell us he's dead, only for him to immediately and literally claw himself out of a grave like a zombie with a flower hat. Or Jin starting ww3 just to straight up superman punch a demon chicken titan in the face back down to hell.
god I love tekken.
@@JN-so6wt I personally found Lucky Chloe's to be amazing as a character moment. It's not serious serious, but it's not off the wall nonsense either.
"Wait, what? What, wait? Wait, what?"
The freaking JAR! Well at least there isn't a miniature pony inside it.
In my opinion the Ice Cream ending shouldn't be locked behind a Low Intelligence Status Requirement
It's IMO the best ending
With whatever you did in the game the only reward you get is, more responsibilities?
Yeah, I am gonna chose The Creamed Ice over it anyday
I’ve probably beaten hollow knight 10 times and have never once spotted Mr mushroom.
He's actually surprisingly hard to find, even when you have a guide to help. You can follow his muttering sounds, but that only works when you're relatively close to him already.
The "Father's Hat" ending in Jackbox's Trivia Murder Party 2
I feel like this needs a counter list of "endings so unnecessarily sad that it made us go wait, what?". My offering for that list would be 'Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons', hands down the most depressing game I've ever played and I just couldn't believe how grim it was! 😳🤷♀️
......come to thinknof it, 'A Way Out' could also be added to that list....so glad Hazelight Studios decided to go in a more cheerful direction after that 😆
I have not played Hollow Knight before, and I know feel an intense shame that I haven't heard of Mr Mushroom until this day. I will await his return. Whenever it might be...
Damn dude I've never found Mr mushroom once 😬
That Mr Mushroom seems like a fun guy
I feel like Outside Xbox exists to make lists so they can talk about Silent Hill and Tekken endings.
6:15 WHO THE HELL HOLDS A KEY OUT LIKE THAT?
If hollow knight can have that gem of a joke ending, i want no more excuses. If you have a multi-ending game, there's gotta be a joke ending
The famous quote from mr mushroom:hmm hmm humm hmm hanmhm
The Paul Tekken ending reminds me of Megas XLR
I really need to rewatch that show.
I had never gotten the Outer Worlds ending. Really good simpsons reference in there.
widely regarded by...ME, oh Andy you sure are cheeky
feel like the 1337 mode ending from Welcome To The Game 2 should've been in this, or if they make a part 2 of this, it should be in that
LOL "Widely regarded by ME."
My favorite joke ending was the ending of Black Ops 2. If you sit through the credits, you get to watch characters from the game play a song with Avenged Sevenfold, it was hilarious!
