    Great video. I produce my first comb honey last year. After watching the video, I realized I was putting the rings in upside down. It still worked, but was difficult to do. Thank you for showing me the best way to set up the comb honey super.

    Great explanation on how the Rounds system works. I didn't realize the lids were designed to fit in the notches also, so this helps a lot!

  • @ndsuusa9787

    When you freeze the comb in addition to kill any unwanted insect, is that also to make the honey crystalized?

    How do you place the Ross round on the hive? Do you need a queen excluder ?

    • @annefrey8732
      @annefrey8732 Před rokem +4

      Daisy, Yes, a queen excluder is necessary. A good system is to put on a queen excluder and 2 extracting supers with comb (not foundation) a week before you expect dandelions. Then a week after dandelions start blooming, remove the lower of those extracting supers and replace it with a comb honey super. Put the extracting super on some other hive and the field bees will return to their own hive the next time they fly.

    Does one eat the wax?

    • @betterbee1979
      @betterbee1979  Před rokem

      Yes! The wax is edible, although a little chewy. Some will chew out the honey and discard the wax, while others will just eat it all whole. It's all about personal preference!

      @@betterbee1979 do you eat the film that you purchase with the rounds?

      @betterbee1979  Před rokem +1

      @@TheRainHarvester Hi again! Do you mean the wax foundation (like what you see at 1:47 in the video)? Yes, that's food-grade and edible! Like the combs that the bees build out and fill with honey, it too is made from beeswax. You can eat it all! Just don't eat the plastic bottom, lid, or the rings around the outside 🙂

  • @davidpotts3844
    @davidpotts3844 Před 9 měsíci

    Should have given the bees more time to finish capping. Only getting 6 of 32 is not a good finish ratio when it comes to an income from the production as the super and things is expensive to start out with. A better inspection an patients may have worked better with getting a better finish ratio
