Yamaha AT-1 to CT-1 more assembly

  • In this video I remove the seat bracket that interferes with the seat closing, install more cables, hardware, and chain.

      Yes, this place in any build is the most satisfying, getting it all together and looking at the finished bike is sure nice.

    Great update Dale. I like how much detail Yamaha provide in the service manuals. I feel your pain in fitting the carburettor cables. My fingers have lost some sensation, too much aircraft riveting.
    AT1/CT1 is going to be an attractive machine, looking forward to seeing it done.

      Yes, getting old is not for the faint of heart. Lot of the military repetitive tasks didn't help with the process either. Thanks Dean.

    got to like the nylon wheel on the left side of the pump,for priming i believe.

    something i found out that probably most know is there is a right and left rubber handle bar grip. one bigger goes over the right throttle plastic piece.

    Here in Brazil, Yamaha motorcycles arrived on the market in 1970 and the best-selling ones were of low displacement because prices were high.
    I'm part of the legion of "2T" lovers because my first motorcycle was a 1974 Yamaha FS1,SS 50.
    I'm working on a "café racer" project based on the CT1 model.
    I have the bottom part of the Yamaha AT1 Engine, only missing the cylinder and piston.
    The correct option is to buy a CT1/CT2 cylinder, however, the offers on eBay are few, so I would like to know from you which other 175cc cylinder fits the AT1 engine. I thank you for your attention.

      Hi there, always nice to hear about riding and others experiences around the world. Sounds like you are well connected in the motorcycle community in Brazil.
      The cylinder/head/piston combinations you need to look for are the 1969 to 1973 AT-1, AT-2, AT-3, or for the 175, the CT-1, CT-2, CT-3. You will need to keep them matched to one another though. 69- 71 are piston port inducted, the 72-73 are reed valve inducted. Keep in mind though that the electric starter of the AT-1 probably will not start the CT-1 175 engine. If you want to get away from the electric start dynamo ignition you will also need the crankshaft, stator, and flywheel from the CT-1 or AT-1MX. These are better suited to racing.       @@montana2strokeracer Hi, I am very grateful for your feedback. In addition to being a great mechanic, you have the sensitivity and time to pass on your knowledge to “mechanical hobbyist motorcyclists”. As for the ignition system of the AT1 engine, I have already replaced the complicated dynamo ignition system with electronic ignition.
      I liked the AT/CT transmission and clutch system because it has very strong gears and axles.
      Have you ever done any upgrades to the CT's suspension? Do the rear shock absorbers offer comfort and safety or would it be good to make some changes?
      Is the 1975 DT175 cylinder not compatible with the CT engine?

    Dale you know better, but for some reason I feel that the accelerator cable setup at the handle bar must be facing down instead of up?

      Hi, you can put the cable in any position you want but going over a lot of factory brochures of the time shows them up. I remember back when I was riding the woods, I would rotate the cable down to keep the tree limbs from grabbing it. Here where I live now, more open riding, I like it up. Personal preference for sure. Thanks for hanging out in the shop with me.
