Sozopol is the oldest city in Bulgaria on the Black Sea coast. Former names: Anthea, Apollonia, Sizebolu. The city has a rich history; the Thracians, Romans and Ottomans were here. In 812, Sozopol entered the borders of Bulgaria, and from 1453 it was under the rule of the Turks. After liberation it became a major fishing center on the Bulgarian Black Sea coast. Now Sozopol attracts many tourists with its well-preserved Balkan architecture of the 18th and 19th centuries, excellent beaches and annual art festivals
