Innovation Award: Gordon Calvert & High View Primary School

Gordon Calvert and High View Primary School in Wombwell received the Innovation Award in recognition for their dedication to grassroots cricket.
The judging panel was impressed with the way that school sports coordinator Gordon has sparked children’s interest in cricket at High View Primary, where students look forward to three doses of their unique brand of the game before school and during breaks throughout the day.
They praised how they dealt with the issues created by having limited space in a small playground. This was done by Gordon working with the students to create special rules that give equal opportunities for batting, bowling and fielding across three separate wickets while skills are coached at the side of the playground.
