Never thought I'd be watching a tutorial on how to open a book, but here I am. Very informative. I now have incentive to open my sealed omnibuses! Excellent stuff!
I just watched this and immediently checked my berserk deluxe edition and sure enough the first chunk of pages are fucked. Did not even realize this was something you're supposed to do. Glad I know from here on out now
This is a very important lesson to learn. I collect sewn bound books before I discovered comics. :D I'm a newbie. Nothing I scream louder at is people reviewing Omni's and start with a freshly opened book and start on page one. I can almost feel the stress on the spine!
I have had serious anxiety with omnibus books for years despite liking having as much in one book as possible and this video is changing my whole game Thank you for this!
Gotta tell you man I really appreciate your channel and your informative videos. You have inspired to finally order my first omnibus which I’m getting delivered tomorrow! 10th anniversary Flashpoint omnibus I’m so stoked bro! Can’t wait to stretch that spine🤘😎
Your every Spider-Man Omnibus vid convinced me to buy my first omni, your recommendations have led me to the golden goose that is InStockTrades, and I don't recall which video it was but I learned this technique from you too. Thanks for all the great life choices, stay minty fam.
From personal experience with other books, that damage was caused due to the perfect binding of the book (the glued binding) and most likely storing the book with the spine face up. As a result the spine collapsed, which caused both of the terrible folds in it which you can see at the end of the video. Also note how the outside of the spine imploded and the outer covers are bowed, this sort of damage points to the book being stored with the spine facing up and gravity pulling it down. The damage isn’t from reading, rather it is from improperly storing the book.
@@bernielockard1827 I would think they mean that it was possibly stored in a box, with other books, and the spine was facing up so if you opened the box you would see the spine.
I thought the same thing. When he showed the book at the end I was like “that has NEVER happened to any of my hardcovers”, I think you’re right it wasn’t properly stored.
Great vids man. You cover so many good topics. You should redo your "every omnibus released so far" vids now that you're using a better camera, showing more book content, and with your intro and other effects. I've been wondering about the upcoming X-Men Revolution and Wedding of Cyclops & Phoenix books. Great videos dude.
good video. Thanks, I knew none of this and I'll check some of my older omni's. I have some DC books that I have checked since viewing this vid and so far they aren't damaged like your Daredevil book.
Thanks man, having some issues with one of my berserk deluxe copies and wanted to see if there were any preventative measures. I'll try this from now on.
Was literally searching for how you dust or what maintenance you do for your statues and found this. Just got my first Omni and had no idea! That’s for being a real one Gem!
I just got a new omibust manga of Highschool of the Dead and wanted to know how to read it so I don't damage it. I have other omibust mangas but they are not in hard cover which I had know problem reading. With this one I didn't want to risk it, I'm so glad I found your video and thank you for it very much. I learned a lot.
Who would think that there would be a video on how to open an omnibus? Lol. But thanks. I have the 10th anniversary of Final Crisis and it’s huge. I just followed your lead. Thanks. 👍🏻
Never realized you had to do this. I have OCD about things like books being messed up. Along with them being expensive just pisses me off when they are beat when dumbass at amazon ship them in paper bags. Imma do this from now on thanks for the video.
This was awesome. I didn’t know of this, and I found I some what damaged my New Teen Titans Vol. 1. I just used this for the rest of my omnibus books, so thanks!!
Question, for the last 2 1/2 years I've collected Omnibuses and they are well taken care of (not read much). Some of them though are pretty heavy of 1200 to 1300 pages, I'm recently learn that some of their bottom blocks are curve meaning possible page sag after years of maintenance once in a while. Being that your a big collector and that I'm sur you take care of your Omnibuses, do your's have some for of page sags? Do you usually put a foam under your Omnibuses bottom page block to keep it from sagging? Otherwise what do you do? I have 7 Omnibuses I've had for 1 to 2 years. In 8.4 to 9.0 MT condition, just in a library dust jacket cover.
Hey, really helpful video! How about fixing creases and bumps of the cover, or the pages? My cousin accidentally dropped one of mine. Looking forward to your response. Thanks! :)
One of my local bookstores was selling the BEFORE WATCHMEN omnibus for $75 and its spine was completely messed up. The binding seemed to have been torn off about half way. It’s a complete rip off that they were selling it at that price in the condition it was in. And that’s something I see all the time with bookstores and online. They’ll have an omnibus in absolute garbage condition but then still somehow expect retail price. Insane!! More people should watch this video.
From what I've been reading, this helps but can't save the DC omnibuses because their bindings are terrible these days. You can read it all over: Flash, Green Lantern, Batman. Seems to be the ones printed coming out of Canada. I just started buying omnibuses, but I might go back to trade paperbacks because they seem less likely to break.
Never thought I'd be watching a tutorial on how to open a book, but here I am. Very informative. I now have incentive to open my sealed omnibuses! Excellent stuff!
One of he most useful videos for every comic book fan.
me who knows il never be able to afford either.....
3 years later still coming useful😂😅😅
@@ahaan8388 i wish you that you can afford them someday dude!
@@kirbyhairline i have a question so when u open a omnibus like that how do u read the first page and on?
@@MyBitch925 after you open it for the first time like this, then u can just read the book normally after that
I just watched this and immediently checked my berserk deluxe edition and sure enough the first chunk of pages are fucked. Did not even realize this was something you're supposed to do. Glad I know from here on out now
Yeah I noticed this way too late with my Berserk deluxe editions. They're obviously still readable but now I'm paranoid.
This is a very important lesson to learn. I collect sewn bound books before I discovered comics. :D I'm a newbie. Nothing I scream louder at is people reviewing Omni's and start with a freshly opened book and start on page one. I can almost feel the stress on the spine!
Now remember kids, *ALWAYS STRETCH THAT SPINE*
Thank you for this man,
I picked up 7 volumes of Berserk deluxe, you probably just saved me a ton of headache and money by showing this.
I have had serious anxiety with omnibus books for years despite liking having as much in one book as possible and this video is changing my whole game
Thank you for this!
Never had a clue. Best vid i could have seen before starting to collect
My first omnibus is arriving in two weeks so this video was very helpful

I was gonna purchase a omnibus recently but decided to hold off. Glad I saw this video before I go back to purchase the book. Appreciate it. 👍
Been following for the past month...getting my first omnibus tomorrow, perfect timing watching this video. Thanks Gem
Nice new graphics gem, like to see how the channel keeps getting better
What a great video! I’m new to collecting omnibus books and I will definitely do this before reading any of them! 🙂
I’m so glad you did a video for this, been thinking of getting some omnibus’s and this is so helpful to know. Thanks Gem 💎 😁
I just bought my first omnibuses (9 total) and didn’t know anything about taking care of the spine. Very useful video!
Great advice. I'm going to do what you said when I open my Conan Omnibus. Thank you!
Very useful !!! Thank You so much 4 these video !!!! Have a great weekend !!!
Very important video,i’m definitely going to adopt your technique, thanks Gem👌🏻
Pro OMNIBUS connoisseur right here yo. He's also the funniest dude reviewing comics, love it!!

What do u mean spine face up. How else are you supposed to store them then what he has behind him??

Love stretching the spine of a new omni. That Secret Invasion has some great binding
i taught this to each of my classes when i taught literature for four years. I would NOT let the expensive texts that the school bought go to waste.
Yeah. All of our History books are super screwed up.
Excellent. My history teacher taught me, and I’m glad to see the knowledge being shared here.
Great vid ! Things like this are always useful for a beginner who’s scared to open there own 💎👍
these How To's would be a dope series

THANKS MAN!!! NEVER IMAGINED IT WOULD HELP SO MUCH.
Yo thanks for this video. Glad I watched this as I'm getting a few of these types of omnibuses for the first time pretty soon.
Really good information. My ocd wouldn't allow me to have that daredevil in the house. I'd spend more time staring at the flaws than reading it

thanks for the heads up i have a few i got for christmas that i haven't gotten to. will be stretching that spine minty style

If a book has been stored on a shelf for a long period of time do you need to regularly stretch the spine or does the original stretching suffice?

This is a good vid for beginners Gem because unlike other spine vids you actually have a damaged book for an example 💎
yea i was thinking that same thing...good thing i had a jacked up book
Great video, thanks.
I had no idea that this had to be done ,,,excellent video
Cool video. I almost never buy hardcover comics, but I have a fancy looking hardcover copy of dune I'll definitely use this with.
Doing this right now i just got 2 volumes of punisher max! Thanks!!
Totally gonna do this with my 1 Omni! Thanks 💎 👊🏽
An omni is like a person that works out, gotta stretch that spine first before you exercise or risk damage. Thanks for the vid.
liking the new title thumbs up man
Thanks for the great tip!
Man, I'm so glad I ran across this before I bought the Berserk deluxe editions. I would have ruined all of them, haha.
Solid. Breaking all my books in TONIGHT
