  • dan running his truck threw the mud out behind the barn. guess the transmission was going to go eventually considering it had 200,000+ miles and hauled horse trailers most of its life. but it drove in and it drove out all on its own.
    heres a little info about the truck:
    1999 ram 1500
    4 inch suspension lift
    dana 60 front/ dana 70 rear
    4.10 gears
    gutted cat into flowmaster muffler all 3" pipe.
    tires are 35x15 interco tsl boggers on 16.5x12 MT classic wheels

      ***** Yea, some of the fastest trucks are using the "Duraflite" trans because it's always in gear, leading to faster shifts. Ford's 4r100, 5r100, and the Allison all have to pass through neutral before the next gear in engaged, requiring the engine to de-fuel in addition to the longer shift period.
      Also, I think some of the most powerful trucks use the 4r100 after they break the dodge tranny.

    Honestly, that kind of abuse will take it's toll on any automatic. High load and little to no airflow across the trans cooler... That'll toast an automatic in no time. I've ran my trans up to 220* sometimes when I go wheeling, and that's even with a Hayden 679 30k GVWR aux cooler. Luckily I have a trans temp guage so I know when to back off.

    I don't understand why people think Dodges have bad transmission. The 47RH and RE have been known to be almost trouble free once the original torque converter gets changed out. I built a 47RE on an 01 for a buddy of mine and dropped a billet output shaft and a Suncoast converter in it about 6 years ago and that things still going. One of the simplest transmissions out there.

  • @MYTOYMAKERZ
    @MYTOYMAKERZ Před 9 lety

    In all auto trans the reverse clutches are the smallest and weakest. So if you add lockers - alter the tire wheel sizes the reverse clutches slip building excess heat. Plus the heat generated from the converter slipping builds up so much heat normally you take a chance of frying your trans. Even plowing snow for hours at a time can fry it. Install a large trans cooler with a fan and ditch your clutch fan for a after market one - but make sure you do not run your trans cooler in line with your radiator as one just over heats the other. Make sure to install a transmission temp gage so you can let your trans cool if temp gets to high. Heat is your transmissions worst enemy besides its owners. Sense doing these mods I have not had a trans issue in any of my trucks regardless of the brand.

  • @MYTOYMAKERZ
    @MYTOYMAKERZ Před 10 lety

    If you had not pushed it so hard in reverse the trans most likely would have lasted longer. All auto transmissions have small clutches for reverse so they cause the trans to over heat which takes out the converter and pump and it's rebuild time. Trans coolers are the best investment for towing and off roading. It did really good for the miles it had at least u did not have to tow out of the mud.Cheers

  • @Buddy713
    @Buddy713  Před 11 lety

    now I'm not saying that this truck is bad ass or anything. its a cool truck but its still all stock. a working man has to build his toy as it breaks basically. very few people just have the money lying around just to throw it all into it at once. in the end this truck still drove in the mud and drove out on its own. the trans. still worked fine. the front seal went out. so we put a new one in that week. free of cost :) and had a lot of fun doing it.

  • @Buddy713
    @Buddy713  Před 11 lety

    ha that funny. how do you suggest to get it out then? when you grow up youll realize that building an off road toy also means breaking and fixing it. getting stuck will always happen! no matter what the truck is mudding is about finding the limit to your truck and then making it better. this truck is a 99 ram. stock engine, stock transmission. 230,000 miles and hauled horse trailers its whole life. dana 70/60 swapped in. trans went out, pulled it out and put a new one it that week.

    All the comments about auto vs manual transmissions are hilarious. To each their own in my opinion. To those of you that say auto are garbage, go grab yourself an owners manual to a newish truck. My dads 2005 Chevy says in the owners manual that the exact same truck, gears, engine, and body configuration is rated at 2000 lbs LESS towing capacity if it is a manual. They cant be too shitty if they are rated to tow more in a 1500. Both have pros and cons and both are good in different scenarios, neither are garbage.
