  • Paul Kaye - the actor and comedian behind Dennis Pennis - tells us why he gets such a kick from Highbury stadium. As a listed building, thanks to the 1930s art deco East Stand, he reckons it's the classiest football ground in the country. And as a fanatical Arsenal supporter, he's not going to let anyone disagree with him. Watch more high quality videos on the new BBC Worldwide CZcams channel here: / bbcworldwide

The one and only way we'd compete at the top is if the tickets to watch were even more extortionate than the Emirates-thats why the decision was made to build a new ground in the first place. This was the greatest stadium in the whole of Britain to play football at. It had the most history of any other and it was just absolute class, it was a very special place to go and not only has Arsenal FC become obscenely redundant of charecter since they, insaneley, knocked it down but London as a city has also. The end of an era for the City of London.
We should have stayed there and made the capacity as high as possible, perhaps would have got it to 48 to 50 thousand instead of moving to the sxxt hole across the road and heaping all this misery upon us.
Arsenal FC the very first top UK Football Club to be bought by the Bankers and sunk by them.

I grew up watching games played at Highbury on telly with scenes of steep packed terraces behind the goals and poking its head over the corner of the ground next to the North Bank, old brick face double storey houses and bare winter trees against the backdrop of a miserable but charming grey sky. It was so English and nothing like anything I would see in the country I grew up in. When I lived in the uk a few years ago, I only went to one live game - at the Emirates. I would compare the experience to visiting a Mcdonalds or Topshop in a different country. Generic and pretty much identical to every modern ground I have visited at home I was cold, bored, and felt so far away and removed from the action on the pitch. The only noise came from the away fans.and even they seemed bored.

you were fools to leave Highburry. There was on two stands possible to make it bigger. Iz could be built up to 50 000. or more. It is an amazing cultural sports tradition and compressed atmosphere, with this nice corner views on the neighbourhood, giveing the playground direct contact and connection to the community and that gave the stadium and club strenght. The new stadium has no soul , an instant steril stadium, with big video walls, like many others. Modern money nothing else. Greetings from Croatia
