- I love studying Ancient Egypt, and I'm so excited to share with you how to create and wear several variations of Egyptian loincloths and schentis. These styles are found throughout Ancient Egyptian artwork, in tomb paintings and on statues and figures, and among some extant garments. These styles are primarily inspired by New Kingdom artwork, and they have proven to be a great starting point for learning about these types of garments.

Underrated video. Make weather appropriate clothes a thing again
Awesome! Thanks for this. I love Egyptian culture.
I'm so glad you enjoyed it! This really is a fascinating civilization to study.
This was really interesting! I love seeing these ancient garments recreated so we can see how they would have been worn and moved. I've had a faience bead net dress on my to-do list forever, but keep chickening out on actually making the beads. XP
I'm so glad you enjoyed it! OMG you and me both on that faience bead net dress. There is one on display at my local science museum, and it's amazing!
I never thought about the shapes needed to achieve the look seen in the artwork, so that was really interesting!
I'm so glad you enjoyed it! There is always a puzzle in that respect, no matter whether the construction is simple or complex.
Ancient Egypt is my jam!!!!
It's a really good jam!
How cool, never thought I'd see a consumer cover loincloths (although, why not??)! I always wondered how these garments worked. Thank you!
They were so perplexing to me too! I wouldn't have thought I'd spend so much time figuring them out, but here we are!
@@DaisyViktoriano you don't get it how'd we see clothes back then if we didn't have sewing stuff how'd they get the of threading correct it's crazy how it mass produced
This is so well researched! I love learning about the history behind the style.
I'm so glad you enjoyed it! I think bringing these things to life has such a powerful connection!
Reminds me of 18th century period aprons, which I also find super comfy, this looks like a less bulky version.
Looks comfy to wear around the house when it’s blazing this summer
Please please please do women's garments also! Your Egyptian exhibit at Festival of the Rose is where I found you to begin with! I'd love to see more Egyptian!
Oh yay!! I explained some women's garments in another video I'll link here! I have been trying out a lot of methods and ideas, and I have more I would love to share in the future too. czcams.com/video/OoipxC42Q_o/video.html
This was literally the first and perfect video in my search for how to make and wear these garments! I have an event I'm dancing in this August, I'll make sure we get videos/pictures for you 💜
I'm so happy that I could help!
This was surprisingly and pleasantly niche for the project I'm working on! Was hoping to get more insight on Rauru's clothing from Tears of the Kingdom. Now i have a baseline for building! Thanks for sharing your knowledge!
Thank you so much, Daisy, for not only inspiring and delighting us with your creations, but also, educating through your extensive background in research and experimentation across fields. 😍
I'm so glad you enjoyed it! Researching and experimenting is so valuable, and I hope to encourage more of us to explore our ideas and passions.
SOOO EXCITED FOR THIS!!!!
❤️🥰❤️
Thank you so much! I needed this for a cosplay!
You seem like you're very astute in ancient Egyptian clothing so I might reach out to you to hopefully get some expertise from someone who is well studied in the subject! I'm falling into so many pitfalls and it's so hard to find answers on ancient Egyptian attire.
Again, thanks a bunch! ❤
Really enjoyed this and love your energy too!! thank you
Right on! I'm researching for a comic character I'm making, and now I have accurate reference from the ground up! Just looking at pictures doesn't tell me how things work most of the time.
I appreciate the video, as a man. I'm looking for some cover on my waist during garden works. The cover should be without any obstacles between legs, more like a male skirt or a sarong, but short.
The loincloth looks fabulous, but has the cloth put between legs, but the look is inspiring.
I'm a fan of antiquity as well :) More into the Greece and Minoan culture, but still similar. Thanks :)
Honestly the most concise and educational video of this kind.. exactly what I needed!
UPDATE: I'm wearing loincloths daily as a full underwear replacement
Thanks for the video! I'm actually thinking of making these for dolls/figures. There's a gorgeous Anubis-inspired figure coming out next year, but even though she looks amazing, I felt like her outfit is missing something. I'm going to try to make some of these for her!
I didn’t know there could be this many types of loin cloths!
It also makes sense that Tut’s would be more curved due to his possible medical needs but I wonder if it would have influenced his court’s fashion as well.
Neat video!
I'm so glad you liked it! It's amazing how much variation you can get on simple garments. I was particularly perplexed by the goat skin one and its shape as I was experimenting - it's so unique.
I would be super interested to read more studies on Tut's court's fashion!
@@DaisyViktoria def go for it! I think it’s be interesting to learn more about other accessories or base clothing in the different dynasties. I’m super into Tudor/Rococo and 17th century French fashion and I get lost in how different royals/factions in a court influenced each other for different means but Pharaoh fashion probably super influenced court dynamics due to their representation of being the supreme god iirc. It’s all so fascinating!
Ancient egiptian is far from my clothing interests, but I'm allways glad to learn something new.
The loincloth is somewhat similar to the sublugaculum. That one I've made once for a roman soldier.
That's so awesome, thanks for sharing that! It's really cool how similar some of these things were.
Hey. Thank you so much. I am writing a time travel adventure novel about ancient Egypt, and I am trying to stay as true to the canon and to maintain as much historical accuracy as possible. Here is brief description: Lizzy, a quiet but brilliant 28-year-old woman in Lima, Ohio, is called by the Egyptian Goddess, Bastet, to go to Ancient Memphis to maintain Maat, the balance of Order and Chaos. She must confront her own confusing lineage, and decide how to help restore Order in an ancient land and prevent Chaos in her own time.
If you are interested, I can send you the first few chapters.
I live in rural areas with a lot of ticks and intense summer heat. I think i may use these while working outside 😂
gracias!!
Интересное видео! мне нравится мужская одежда древних египтян и я знаю как сделать схенти-килт. Для меня это видео было полезным!
Interesting video! I like ancient Egyptian men's clothing and I know how to make a shenty kilt. This video was helpful for me!
I like your choice of music, in this video.
Thank you! I'm so glad you liked it! The artist did a great job composing this one!
These would give a nice healthy breeze around the meat and 2 veg! But it is so hot in Egypt. Well done they all looked so cool. X
Hah definitely good for a breeze! Glad you enjoyed!
Cool 😎
Please what are the required measurements for the shendyt
I'm very curious as to where you learned to make these and how you figured out the patterns?
A lot of it is based on the extant garments we do have (such as the loincloths in the video - there are a bunch similar), images and representations in artwork, and then experimentation to try to figure out how it might have gone together. Would you be interested to learn more about that process in general? I've been throwing around the idea of talking more about how this works for any historical era recreations.
@@DaisyViktoria Sure
Leather ones are for heavy work, war or winter use.
this was great fun! moar ancient clothing, please! xoxoxoxoxoxo
Thank you! I love ancient civilizations and their clothing too!
Consider examining a Thai Style Pah Kao Mah (loincloth) worn like a towel, without any other under garment. What you show in this video reminds me of a typical loin cloth found in India.
I've just been reading about what ancient Egyptian culture and festivals remain in Egypt, after suppression from Christian and Islamic culture.
It's so great to see what has survived!
😮
I totally understand why they used the over skirt. It reduces the big floofy butt look. (Or the full diaper look)
Haha that definitely checks out on mine! To be fair, I think they were much better at tying the loincloths than I am!

You are super good or mnb gyptian irregular even Egyptian I am a brufen blueblood Egyptian my grandfather's are confirmed to be from the king list of touring and it's very rare very rare
So you're saying King T was fat?
Indian loincloths called as name of KOMANAM
Finally the great secret revealed
Without the schenti, the loincloth looks like an adult diaper.
Is the pattern for your shenti too short? In Prince of Egypt it looks like the guys are almost wearing full "skirts". No sign of the loincloth.
11:05 - that looks uncomfortable to us who actually have male reproductive organs. Also: how does one keep the between-the-legs flap from going the wrong place when one voids the bowels?
Prior to the New Kingdom, most Egyptian slaves and members of the lowest Egyptian social orders wore nothing, instead both men and women in these catagories were entirely naked.
I can imagine ancient Egyptian spotting fart stain easily on white! loll
They look just like cloth diapers. I would theorize that women use something like this on their period, not only in Egypt but throughout most history!
Cloth diapers - that's the first thing my boyfriend said when I showed him one! 😂
Absolutely. The first one I saw I was like "a diaper!" Especially the old diapers used in the fifties which had to be folded into a long triangle. One of my jobs was to fold them ready for my youngest sister to use.
I hope you got a chance, off camera to wear them without the leggings. They are very comfortable to wear.
Hmm yes, there's nothing quite like wearing a leather diaper while living in the desert. So comfy...😉
