How To Make (And Wear) An Ancient Egyptian Loincloth and Schenti

  • I love studying Ancient Egypt, and I'm so excited to share with you how to create and wear several variations of Egyptian loincloths and schentis. These styles are found throughout Ancient Egyptian artwork, in tomb paintings and on statues and figures, and among some extant garments. These styles are primarily inspired by New Kingdom artwork, and they have proven to be a great starting point for learning about these types of garments.

    I appreciate the video, as a man. I'm looking for some cover on my waist during garden works. The cover should be without any obstacles between legs, more like a male skirt or a sarong, but short.
    The loincloth looks fabulous, but has the cloth put between legs, but the look is inspiring.
    I'm a fan of antiquity as well :) More into the Greece and Minoan culture, but still similar. Thanks :)

    I didn’t know there could be this many types of loin cloths!
    It also makes sense that Tut’s would be more curved due to his possible medical needs but I wonder if it would have influenced his court’s fashion as well.

      @@DaisyViktoria def go for it! I think it’s be interesting to learn more about other accessories or base clothing in the different dynasties. I’m super into Tudor/Rococo and 17th century French fashion and I get lost in how different royals/factions in a court influenced each other for different means but Pharaoh fashion probably super influenced court dynamics due to their representation of being the supreme god iirc. It’s all so fascinating!

    Hey. Thank you so much. I am writing a time travel adventure novel about ancient Egypt, and I am trying to stay as true to the canon and to maintain as much historical accuracy as possible. Here is brief description: Lizzy, a quiet but brilliant 28-year-old woman in Lima, Ohio, is called by the Egyptian Goddess, Bastet, to go to Ancient Memphis to maintain Maat, the balance of Order and Chaos. She must confront her own confusing lineage, and decide how to help restore Order in an ancient land and prevent Chaos in her own time.
    If you are interested, I can send you the first few chapters.

    • @DaisyViktoria
      @DaisyViktoria  Před 2 lety +1

      A lot of it is based on the extant garments we do have (such as the loincloths in the video - there are a bunch similar), images and representations in artwork, and then experimentation to try to figure out how it might have gone together. Would you be interested to learn more about that process in general? I've been throwing around the idea of talking more about how this works for any historical era recreations.
