    Herein I test literally every detail I could think of on the Ballistic Shield in Hell Divers 2. I learned some interesting things. You'll have to forgive the imprecise formula, its not the same as testing things in Darktide so I had to work it out on the fly. Let me know what you think.

    1. Adding timestamps
    2. Shield can ricochet, the blue effect is separate and disjointed from the actual projectile. Ricochets can deal damage.
    3. Ricochets can ricochet off a second shield

      Me also have some thoughs... I like yours so I will share mine.
      Recoiless rifle support backpack should be worn by a person who uses recoiless rifle. Anyone who want to support loading should be able to do it using a backpack on a rifle carrier. It would be even more realistic. Have a look now that even animation currently is wrong. I suggest to change it to make gameplay mlre directed to co operation and be more realistic.

    I wanna slide on the shield. Just lemme run around, get into a desperate situation and pull out my MG. Oh no, grenade! Dive backwards! Hit a decline, and slide down a hill into the hordes of enemies with the shield on my back holding down the trigger, letting Liberty guide my bullets.

    I think the team-weapon mechanic would be amazing with a shield no to lock them together, but to let an ally brace over your shoulder. Just think: they come up to your back while your shield is raised, hit Interact, and they put a hand on your shoulder to move with you and fire over you with increased stability, while eliminating the risk of domeing you in the back of the head. Just like SWAT does it.

      Also blocking melee would make it infinitely more useful on bug planets where it is almost entirely useless

      @@thehoodedteddy1335It actually does block melee, specifically melee coming from the front left side of the body gets blocked, attacks from the right go through. If it is on your back it blocks back attacks.

    A good point. the Liberators should be allowed to be fired "one handed" when shields are up. The SMG can keep its fire while running trait to keep distinguishing them.

      And making one handed weapons not get a penalty to accuracy while any two handed weapon does should probably be in there aswell. Just to make that synergy of the one handed weapon+shield stand out a bit more.

      I would ordinarily agree with this if the Defender wasn't just a better, direct upgrade to the Liberator in this game. Good thing they're bringing back more assault rifles.

      @@AWACS_Snowblind If you'd look beyond just the raw stats it would become apparent quite quickly that the Liberator and Defender are both equally effective weapons that simply operate better in different situations.
      I recommend Defender for Bugs and Liberator for Bots

    The #1 change I'd love to see to the riot shield is making it so it doesnt drop when you get exploded on. If that change was made x10 more people would use it in bot missions since the personal shield increases your hitbox

      This. It's not just when you get exploded either. It's when you get ragdolled for any reason. Dived towards some ground that was slightly too far below you? Dropped. Dived against a wall? Dropped. Teammate melee bashed you for a laugh? Dropped. This single mechanic makes the ballistic shield completely unusable for me.

      yeah or frankly put it on a short cooldown like the eats and it would solve the problem fairly well and should be easier to implement. I get frustrated when I use it because i'll get lightly tipped over by the edge of a blast and then run back to cover, all of a sudden 2 minutes later I realize I lost my shield at some point and it's still got minutes left on the cooldown. Also it would give it some extra value because over time you could equip your team if they didn't bring a backpack or lost theirs and it's on long cooldown.
      That and it should really block mêlée and mitigate some explosive damage but I'm not sure how they model explosive damage so that might be tricky to deal with (although armor says it does it so idk why that couldn't be applied to the shield itself).

      I’m against it. I actually think they’ve done a real good job with this. Made it so that it’s close to realistic as possible. You try holding on to a shield whilst being rag dolled 10-20ft away I guarantee you you’ll drop it.

      @DonCarver. Realism isn't indicative of good game mechanics. Nothing else in this game follows this logic, why does the ballistic shield need to suffer an unnecessary penalty when it's already worse than any other stratagems that share the same slot?

    So the difference in damage comes from the fact that enemies can crit. headshots effect you more than body shots.
    My major gripe with the shield is that it falls out of your hands. If theyre going to make it fall out of your hands, they should make it capable of tanking at least one explosion, if not heavily reducing the damage.

      The crit and headshot thing feels pretty bad to be honest. I agree about the drop thing, forgot to mention it. But I've made suggestions in other places about that.

      Honestly one of the things I was thinking would make the shield usable when I saw it in the shop was being able to get away with grenading quite close where it would mitigate more of the blast

    They could have made it so the shield just protects from projectiles from a certain angle. But they went out of their way to make it something that can be interacted with properly. Seriously impressive.

    Fun strats i've found with the shield
    equipping your 3rd weapon to put it on your back as you dive letting you turtle a little. Useful to buy more time to line up shots with the rail gun or the Anti material rifle
    keeping it on your back at terminals.
    Aggroing the main force of gun bots for your teammates to flank them or focus down bigger dangers. The only things you should worry about are flamers, rocket raiders, rocket devestators, and the assult melee units. Everything else is childsplay
    (also for some reason the shield works on the tounge and when crouched can be used on bile but you really shouldn't use the shield with the bugs)
    Recommended weapons - Defender (especially with burst fire), Senator, Redeemer
    Recommended support weapons - Expendable anti tank , anti material rifle, railgun, arc thrower,
    Recommended armors, Any armor with Scout, Servos, or Explosion resistance.

      @@Reginald-sc9tk thank you. I've become a bit of a shield guy on the bot side of the war. As long as you can keep from being surrounded and keep an eye out for those eliminators. you'll find yourself to be quite formidable. It's given me bad bot habits due to how effective it can be.
      That said current patch has a bug with shield breaking its animations. If you heal, emote, pick up any non essential items, or pick up samples you will glitch. This glitch opens your arms up like carrying an artillery shell, the shield ether being on your back or on the back of your arm. You will be unable to block or fire until you switch weapons. Instead you will be stuck in this "punch me in the face" pose.

      I like that if you get knocked down, you drop your shield and have to pick it back up. Even when you're prone, you can see how the player compensates with the shield in hand. Absolutely amazing.

      The ballistic shield should allow two handed weapon usage, kinda like a turret, it itself has already limited use compared to other backpacks you can take, and at higher levels, its more of a running game. So adding this small feature will not make it OP, but might see more of it deployed

    They should tweak the shield for sure. There's literally no reason to use it over the shield generator backpack since that does the mitigation part way better. It doesn't slow you down, blocks all damage types and it covers all angles instead of just head on.
    Giving the shield more options for weapons, removing the hitbox hole in the viewport (just say it's futuristic bulletproof glass that won't even crack), blocking melee like you said (at least from the smaller units) and fixing the leg clipping would give it a bit of a bump.
    I would also argue a small hidden explosive resistance buff while actively blocking with it would do it good, since it could stack and combo well with heavy armor. That way you could act as the "tank" of the group, trying to draw as much small arms fire as possible when dealing with bots. It won't make it good against explosives since you'll ragdoll anyway, it will just make it a bit less punishing if you happen to get hit by a rocket you didn't see.

    I'd say the formula still holds up well enough, considering the lack of proper testing ability we have for this game.
    The little jokes sprinkled around were great for keeping the tone lighthearted too, hope you keep including them.
    Good to see all the server's findings and testing thrown together in one video.

    The Ballistic Shield is a fun thing to have. But I wish that instead of getting deleted by rockets with the shield it would instead save you but at the cost of the shield breaking :(

      Go hold up a potlid and have your friend take a baseball bat with no breaks to it. You'll still feel 80%+ of that strike. Same idea with explosives. maybe it if also obliterated your arm in the process of breaking the shield then maybe

    Thank you Finally a content creator who is testing the game and its items to its limits and come with great idea to make them more fun and interesting.
    I seen some other content creator who are really disappointing and bad at explaining the the good side and bad side of stratagems how i can tell cause i always testing in game and making new builds constantly and seeing them mislead other people on an actually good support weapon and discourage them to try new stuff or goof around and find out if it works

    Honestly for me the biggest change needs to be that the shield doesn't drop on ragdoll. It's already taking up a backpack slot. Even now it feels inferior to the shield backpack, utility wise.
    In my Opinion the balance should be:
    Shield Pack > Blocks all direction attacks, cooldown on too much damage, you can use heavy weapons (FLANK/SPEED ORIENTED)
    Ballistic Shield > Mitigates Directional Attacks and breaks at some point + One Handed Weapons (TANK FACING ENEMIES)

      There is no need for it to break, it is already taking up a backpack spot and only allowing you one handed weapons PLUS direction based blocking.

      I believe in allowing users to block small to medium sized enemy melees. Chargers wouldn’t make sense, same for bile titans and hulks/tanks. I’m on the fence about it being able to block spewers, but generally I think it is reasonable to do so since spewers have large spread to their attacks and the shield isn’t covering you on all sides like the shield pack.

      Alternatively, you could have the shield break or nearly break from explosions or charger advances and negate the damage done to the player by 50%. Larger weaponry like tank shots or danger close stratagems should one shot the shield but allow the player to barely survive from full health as long as the shield itself takes the hit.

    Small correction: the "warrior" you used for testing was a Brood Commander. The warriors are the smaller versions of that one. Scavengers (the smallest kind with no wings) are pretty consistent as they only use one attack.

      @@mickeymute334 They might just be classified as a variant of warriors in the files too. They use the same model and AI, just better numbers.
      For the purposes of the achievement of killing one point blank it may as well count seeing as to how it'd harder to do with a brood commander anyways!

    Good stuff, thank you. Nice to have the no BS confirmation that the Ballistic Shield is, ultimately, useless in melee (when it REALLY shouldn't be). If they don't ever intend for the Shield to help with melee defense, perhaps they could compromise and give an improved melee attack with bigger hitbox and pushback but less damage or something to it.

      Yeah I was really hoping it would be useful to protect myself from stalker and hunter attacks from behind while reloading. Well, here's to hoping they make melee attacks properly collide and get stopped by the shield

    I love the shield, but I do think it needs a few buffs. Slap some ballistic glass in the viewing slot and a safety strap for the arm so you don't get shot in the face and it doesn't fly off of you when you ragdoll. Let it block melee attacks, and I'd also say let it block, or at least mitigate spray attacks from the front. That way it can be used against bugs, not just cyborgs. I also say change its melee attack to where instead of using the gun, you hit with the shield. Same damage, but you get to knock back smaller enemies. (unless the bayonets from the first game come back, then let us stab forward like a Roman Legionnaire!) Overall its a good tool and fun to use, but it could be better. Good, not great. Needs a buff, even if just a few small ones here and there. Oh, and yes, team weapon sync-up. Let my squadmate latch on to me for mobile cover like this is Army of Two.
    I don't think they'll allow primary usage with the shield, but they have been adding more things from the first Helldivers, and that game featured a single-handed laser smg, a shotgun, a flamethrower, and a plasma launcher, on top of an extra smg that we don't have in this game yet called the ninja that was surpressed. With more secondaries coming, I imagine the weapon variety for the ballistic shield will increase. Keep it to secondaries and specific primaries, so that way it can still fit into the developer's philosophy of weapon design. Maybe make a specialized version of the liberator that has less damage and no zooming optics, but is lighter and can be one-handed. The patriot variant of the liberator from the first game would work well for that if it returns. Overall, I think they need to lean in to specializing the shield play style more. They just need to develop the shield play style further to really help it shine the best it can in this game. Still fun, just needs a bit more to it.

    Currently has a hilarious bug where when you pick up anything,( samples, ammo, etc...) it thinks you are picking up an explosive barrel so your just standing there with your hands in the funniest spot until you swap weapons

      It activates on stims too, which is less fun as you're usually using those while being shot at, and suddenly going into a T-pose really doesn't help: both stops you from aiming (the bullets actually do come from the gun's model) and exposes your entire front.

    I like your shield deployment and shield wall suggestions I can definitely get behind those. When they introduce swords I hope they can be used in tandem with the shield.

    Making the shield block melee attacks, but also let it be able to take 3 or 4 shots of rocket before breaking. But of course, when you get hit by a rocket with the shield up, you'll be blown back and onto the ground, take something like 25% health damage or your arm broken. Would allow you to work as a tank or a frontline unit, with only one handed weapons as option.

    Placing the shield should 100% be a feature, but also make it a bit bigger and give more "HP" before it breaks.
    Spit balling some ideas:
    1.) Adding an energy pulse to it, as a way to "Force push" enemies who get to close.
    2.) Adding a Kinetic energy module to the shield so it absorbs incoming ballistic damage and shoots out a burst of energy after it absorbs enough.
    3.) Add new mechanic to game where if diving with shield, you use it like a surf board and slide down slopes. (Crash damage into enemies for bonus)
    4.) Add melee damage mitigation (60%) to the shield, and pair it with a "Limb Liberator" (One handed sword) that is effective against light armored targets. (Swinging drains stamina)
    5.) Allow for the shield to be raise over the hell divers head to take cover from ballistic based stratagems and from attacks coming from elevated positions.

    I love the ballistic shield, firstly it looks sick as fuck when youre running with the smg, and its invaluable to take some of the heat off of your friends with their support weapons as you distract bots and their gunfire, or even just to have something different from the shield pack. Portable cover is great, but this shield needs support from railguns, rocket launchers etcetera, but the idea of the game is to have a team that is complementing eachothers loadouts

    One thing of note with this tool: you can, and likely should, put the shield on your back for purposes of rapid retreating by swapping to a two handed weapon. This puts the hitbox onto your back, which protects you from fire in that direction. I also wish there was an option to manually put the shield on your back while using a one handed weapon, especially for the revolver. First person aiming with the shield is pointless, and you can't get precision at long ranges without standing still or lying down as is.

    The shield does absorb some of the damage from spewer bug attacks. I've noticed it more when running away with it equipped on your back. The associated slow effect will still hit you though. You'll notice it when you have it on your back and running from hunters as well. The damage from a hunter tongue attack will sometimes get absorbed by the shield but the slow will still hit you. I think melee attacks shown in the video at close range bypass the shield because the hurtbox of their attacks clip through the shield model and intersect with your character model. An update to the shield would need melee attacks to deflect off the shield properly, causing a stun or interrupt on the enemy. But that would probably force the devs to classify different types of enemy melee damage into, minor, normal and unblockable hits.

    The crew serve function would be cool for locking shields together, true. But being able to sort of magnetize to a friend's back while they're crouched with the shield and shoot over them and stay behind them would be cool.

    The Ballistic shield inconsistently blocks one damage type from one faction from either the front or back and you are forced to use 1 handed weapons. The Shield generator gives you an additional call of duty health bar that blocks everything, has shield gating and you can use all weapons. The shield generator is a straight, no brainer upgrade to the ballistic shield.
    They would have to do something wild with the ballistic shield to even compete with the shield generator.

      Ive used the shield quite extensively in both bugs and bots and my take-away is that the shield reduces damage less effectively but more frequently compared to the shield generator at the additional cost of limiting weapon choices, depending on whats around for a given mission (mainly spitter types for bugs) the ballistic can be quite good

      ok, but don't forget the cons of the shield generator, it's not a cod health because it only restores when it's depleted, but also, the area of which bullet's can hit you increase dramatically, meaning, a lot more shot's that would not hit you, do.
      Against bugs it's a no brainer, but against bots... i'll just say this, i've been dying a lot less after making the switch.

    Further notes not mentioned: While you are holding the shield (not on your back), if your character ragdolls they will drop it on the ground. So if an explosion happens nearby or you dive off a ledge slightly too high, you'll have to pick it up again.
    Somewhat alluded to, but since it blocks at all times, pull out a support weapon while retreating and it can block bullets aimed at your back, too. Also keeps you from dropping it if you ragdoll.
    Lastly a PSA: In the current patch, its animations are bugged and using a stim or collecting a sample will put you in a T-pose state. You can fix it by swapping weapons, but still very problematic when you need healing mid fight.

    The shield not being usable as deployable cover seems like such an oversight. No one is going to give up their primary weapon just for some inconsistent protection from a fraction of the damage types being thrown at you. Especially when the shield generator exists

    One of the devs said armor has a numerical system, like armor values 1-10 or something like that, and each weapon has an armor penetration value of their own through 1-10(note he said 1-10 wasn’t the value distribution just an example) hence why some “light armor piercing” weapons penetrated what others couldn’t. That’s the “inbetweenies” though I don’t believe there’s a separate distinction for vehicle armor, just a higher value.

    i assume melee hits because the arms of the enemies clip through the same way the divers legs do, i doubt the devs are capable of making it block melee damage

    I think that shield just needs a Reinhardt mechanic that has a good chunk of health and recharges when the shield isn't up (and to not be dropped when you get ragdolled). That would make it actually protect you and importantly your team, meaning you could cover them while they quickly use a terminal or something

    The idea of being able to lock step with other shields is a cool idea. I think it would also be cool if another non-shield player could lock in behind the shield player, similar to assisted reload stance, and just move behind the shield bearer for cover while they use their bigger gun.
    Being able to deploy the shield on the ground is an awesome idea as well!

    I wish the shield reacted differently to heavy hits. Like if hit by an explosive or a bile spewer, the user will be thrown onto his back from recoil but not take much damage, and most of all, be still holding the shield.

    Not sure if someone else mentioned this, but enemy armor and weapon ap is on a scale of 1-10. If the ap is lower than the armor it bounces, if ap matches armor it does 50% damage, and if ap is higher it does full damage. Then they just generally grouped it into light, medium, and heavy armor.

    Normally I have a good suggestion for criticisms but I don't really have anything for the ballistics shield. I guess I would just say make it bigger/cover the entire body. Its useless against bugs and for bots it only has use against devastators, which only kill me over rockets maybe 1/10 times? So if its going to only be ballistics, then it should do that perfectly. You're still gonna get one shot by a rocket, even more so with a larger hitbox.
    They could take a step back to HD1s energy shield, maybe something projected in front of you to prevent explosive damage. Since taking cover is infinitely more effective than using the shield, you may as well have some kind of distraction/tank utility for your team to exploit

    I’ve always liked your more analytical and data-oriented approach to exploring weapons in DT, so I’m really excited to see HD2 be analyzed under the same eye! Even though I’ve not had the chance to get the game for myself (curse you college midterms! 😭), I’m always fascinated by some juicy variety in both enemies and usable weapons/skills, and I’m hoping that this sort of testing will reveal some hidden gems and underrated weapons to give some other stuff a chance to be more viable in late game missions. I like railguns and shotguns as much as the next guy, but there is so much goodness to be found in a solid arsenal filled with anything from flamethrowers and recoilless rifles to tactical nukes and sentry turrets! I feel like the ballistic shield is the epitome of that, I love hefting a good slab of metal and running silly, off-meta picks, and your testing showed off some neat information that I didn’t know about it. I just hope that it gets a bit of TLC along with much of the rest of our arsenal, though hopefully further tests show that not everything is in as dire a state as some folks would have you believe.
    Also, I’m not super familiar with how the armor system works in this game, so it may be a dumb question. Does the shield (or armor in general) have a sort of “health bar” or maximum amount of damage it can sustain from non-penetrating hits, or will weak shots just bounce off endlessly? I feel like if you’re going for a long, grueling mission against the bot menace, it would be useful to know for certain that your shield isn’t gonna fail on you in the middle of tanking a Star Wars movie’s worth of blaster fire. Same applies for shooting enemy armor, are you just straight up not penetrating armor ever without strong enough weapons, or can you theoretically break a Charger’s leg with an automaton-tickler shotgun flicking enough grains of salt at it?

    It's a bigger blow when the energy shield protects you from all damage, even melee. The ballistic should be a trade off of considerably higher defense, but only in one direction. Not to mention it feels like bots will still aim for your arms and legs, stagger you, then you get hit more when staggering. Still feels like it becomes nearly obsolete when you get the other shield, i just run it for fun sometimes. Not to mention you're locked to basically one weapon (two if you own the Knight).

    This is great. I love all the points you made, especially that the shield should block or at least mitigate some melee damage. I think the reason it doesn't is because the enemy hurtbox goes through the shield object and touches the player hitbox anyway (similar to how you can melee your buddy if they are stuck in the ground.) I don't know how they would be able to fix this. maybe if a melee hurtbox touches the shield it multiplies the damage by 0.5 or something. IDK how their game is programmed but hopefully they can figure it out.

    they should add a team action to shield. much like other team reload weapons you lock onto the player with the shield, but instead of reloading you put a hand on there shoulder and fallow close behind them in a way to use the shield as cover. and if you aim you peak to the side and use your primary exposing yourself. it would be very useful to help a teammate who is stranded behind cover to get back to safety.

      Something I forgot to include for the revolver is make sure you have Per Weapon memory for FPV or TPV enabled in settings. Shield FPV operates off the laser and the revolver doesn't have one. I still prefer it for shield use due to long range application.

    This sheild seems to have better longevity at actually shielding you from fire than the shield backpack.
    It nice to see how you can apply these support items to enhance the gameplay.
    I wonder if you could do the shotgun rover next against bots. I find it lack luster at the moment.

    Gotta do a video on the new flamethrower. I'm 25h in using it for all my runs (with interchanging strategems) and it's to the point I now think the buff was too much... There's a beautiful about mastering such a clunky and volatile weapon. No straight lines of a beam of energy landing exactly where my cross air is aiming... No, I want DOT damage that randomly spawns and lingers on the ground with a high chance of hurting me and my mates. Having to learn to work around it. Knowing when and where to use it. What fights to take, when to kite, learning the environment around me every fight so I can funnel enemies around corridors of flame... In these 25h (and prob 100 more) i felt like i learned something I would have learned in one of your great videos! Flame on, diver

    The way armor works is a value from 1-10.
    Weapons have a pen value of 1-10
    If pen is less than armor it deflects
    If pen = armor it deals reduced damage
    If pen > armor it deals full damage

    This support equipment should let you deploy it and it should create a small barrier with health when you deply it (maybe 3x the size of the handheld version.)
    Imagine running around, deploying it and blocking a rocket, then picking it back up to continue running.

    With the Fortified perk from the armor, it will make the shield and defender SMG combo much better. Crouching will not only have the shield better protect you but reduce recoil when shooting. And when you get hit by an explosion you only take half damage thanks to the Fortified perk and more likely survive. Even more so using the heavy armor version FS-11 Executioner from the Superstore.

    I will say, your suggestion of being able to use this with two handed weapons gives me a really good reason to switch to single bullet for MGs. usually, I just try and one tap my mouse instead of switching, and if an extra bullet comes out, who cares? It usually hits anyway and it still does damage. with it being MUCH less accurate because of recoil, that would push me to using single fire, as the second bullet would almost always be a waste, so it's more efficient to switch.

    I like the idea of deploying it, would give you some breathing room to pull out a support weapon or something to deal with the heavier hitters. I'm not convinced about the two-handed weapons being usable with the shield, though, I think we just need some more one-handed options. I would love to have, say, a one-handed stun baton.

    You didn’t mention my personal favorite option, the Knight SMG you get with the super citizen edition! It’s basically a better liberator that can be one handed, highly recommend. Also, the main thing I’d do to buff the shield is make it stuck to your fucking arm. When you rag doll you lose the shield every time, it sucks, it’s the only item that does this.

    Thanks for the research.
    I've also tested melee defence with the shield and I seems to stop hits if the melee attackers hitbox doesn't pass through it all the way.
    So hopefully Arrowhead can eventually have melee enemies stop phasing through it.

    I either run with a shield and heavy machine gun so I can turtle pretty easily or I say fuck it and go with heavy machine gun and auto cannon so I can help reload my teammates with the autocannon reloads and call in either support weapon more frequently. Usually I only go with the latter if my teammates also have autocannons.
    I think it’d be cool the shield could be swapped between taking up the support weapon slot or backpack (maybe carried more on the left shoulder if a backpack is equipped) would be cool to see a tactic where you could carry an autocannon backpack for example and use the shield to protect you and your teammate while doing the autocannon reload at the sacrifice of having a support weapon yourself.

    If it can block attacks coming from your rear when not in use (slung on your back) the value goes up significantly.

    Also when you get hit by a rocket devastator for example, or something that makes you rag doll, you drop the shield on the ground. Sometimes you can pick it up sometimes it just breaks. No other items work like that and its really annoying lol

      Funnily enough "completed" stratagems have this behavior, at least when throwing them. I found this out when a friendly got a little too cozy with a bombardment, causing me to drop my bombardment right in the middle of the extract.

    We use texture colision over box for that reason plus you can better define a week spot on a creature.

    Prone animaitons with this shield is a whole another dimension. Wouldn't say it's actually combat-effective, but just check the shield positions while prone and you'll have some interesting thoughts.

    I have tested the ballistic shield on every terminid enemy so far and it provides no protection from spitters or spewers.
    Also I don't think the devs are against your suggestion at 10:50 in principal. I think the main limiting factor of implementing other weapon type uses with the shield would be modelling the drawbacks in a way that doesn't glitch out. Like those drawbacks not applying to your weapons after picking up a shield even after unequipping it. I think design principal would be be secondary to the devs lacking time to implement at current as they have a roadmap they are trying to keep to.
    I agree more weapons being usable with the ballistic shield should be implemented though. For all the love and hype it gets (from me as well) Helldivers 2 is still in many regards an unfinished product/work in progress. A very playable one albeit.

      I fully agree with everything you said here except I'm uncertain on spewers. I've had fortune and misfortune with them. Just not sure. But otherwise I think we align in our understanding.

    I love my ballistic shield. Kids now days with their little energy shields will never know the love of 3 inches of steel between you and the enemy

    I wish this thing was good, I love using shields in games and overall just being tanky. But in a game where movement is king and the automatons fire so many missles at you, the shield generator just completely out classes this thing.
    To make it better, I say lengthen the shields height, reduce (but not negate) explosion damage while blocking, keep it in our hands when we ragdoll, and make our characters hold the shield in front of us when sprinting.

      @Reginald-sc9tk so, coming back to this comment, looks like they did most of the things I listed actually. It also got stealth buffed and it no longer drops when you ragdoll, and correct me if im wrong, it looke like it can block more automaton weapons now, and (I think?) It reduces damage from missles, hard to say with how random explosive damage can be.

    One advantage the ballistic shield has over the shield pack is that it has a smaller profile, meaning you're less likely to catch stray missles that would hit the larger shield bubble.

      @@Reginald-sc9tk Line of sight I haven't tested, but that's a very good point. It's also not glowing, unlike some other defensive options, so that might effect stealth.

    It’d be cool if while holding a shield, you would have to have your 2 handed weapon essentially welded/mpunted into the gun thereby balancing it where you can’t use your primary without also having the shield out

    Want to run the shield against bots so I can mix it up from endless Autocannon supremacy, but unfortunately there seems to be a bug that affects not just the shield, but also the hard drive objective in certain missions. If you're holding the shield or hard drive and you pick up samples, open a crashed ship thing, and sometimes clamber over terrain, you're character will go into a sort of T-pose and won't be able to fire your gun unless you switch weapons or drop the item.
    Very annoying for sure since the Ballistic Shield is such a cool item.

    Speaking of deploying the ballistic shield, the leaks for the next content including exo/mechs has a “TrenchWall” call in that deploys a wall of metal cover and a mounted Grenade Launcher. Its quite pitiful from the leak as the terrain it is placed can allow legs to be shot. But its more defense call ins
