Pouring A Concrete Slab For a Hot Tub and Building A Deck Around It

- In this video we are pouring a concrete slab for a hot tub and building a deck around it to make it look like the hot tub is recessed into the deck. I never liked it when a hot tub is placed right next to a deck, so we wanted to build benches all the way around it so you can walk right from the deck into the hot tub. You can also use the bench behind the hot tub to sit on top of it and hang your feet in, stay tuned to watch us finish the rest of this sweet deck!

I don't see rebar, why is that?
No re-mesh in the concrete = cracked concrete.
Started an outdoor project, ran into your videos. Dang, I’m on a whole new journey lol! You guys are amazing and don’t understand how you don’t have a million subscribers yet!?! I appreciate your craftsmanship and integrity. Subscribed and turned my notification bell on to get all your new videos!
I love it!! After a few videos you’ll be golden, none of this is really too difficult if you take your time!
Thank you! I'm literally doing this right now by myself to help save my wallet a bit, your videos are top notch and very helpful
I’m glad they are helping you out a bit with your build!
but wait ... how does the hot tub get serviced/repaired since non of the sides are open or removable?
My thoughts exactly.
Was also wondering the same. My guess is that it's not serviceable now. Or replaceable, without removing a lot of the surrounding structures.
It might be difficult servicing that hot tub when things break. Regardless, your work is outstanding! Beautiful.
Thanks a lot! We’re gonna be building an access panel for servicing so all the critical parts are easily accessed
My new favourite CZcams channel. Excellent work as always 👏
Thanks a lot!!
Pat is my hero . How's that hot tub going to look pat bubbly 😂😂😂
Can’t argue with him on that 🤣
Sean Shacka Lacka getting it done!! Looking good Bud. Videos are fantastic!! Hoping all is well, Dirty Jersey out!!!
Thanks mmmg!!!!
How do i see the final outcome? Im building similar one now and want to see what this is looking like . Just had concrete pad poured today 😊
How would maintain the hot tub (i.e.: take the hot tub outer coverings off to get to the electronics or the plumbing and pumps for maintenance) once is has all this built in seating around it? Tear out the new decking? Or lift out the hot tub for maintenance? I did watch the full video for the entire deck too, and still have questions.
Thanks for making this video. Wife and I were wanting to do exactly this. We really enjoy your content, great channel, cheers!
Glad you’re enjoying it, I appreciate it!!
Amazing project 👍 ......when I watch vids like this I always imagine I could do this in my garden but I soon realise I could never do it on my own 🙄🤣
Can’t wait for the next vid
Thanks a lot!!
I have a deck built around my hot tub. Unfortunately, can't get to it for repairs. Now we have to take down the deck. Do you have a way to do maintenance on that hot tub?
You can have a hatch cut out of the existing deck for maintenance access. You shouldn't need to demo the whole deck.
New subscriber from New Zealand. We call a Hot Tub a Spa Pool here. lol
There's more timber in that deck area than in my whole house - budget must be crazy
Definitely lots of lumber on this one!
New to the channel and wow you boys graft! Great content and fantastic work
Thanks a lot Gary!
First everything you do is awesome. But I did have a question. With as snuggly as the hot tub is in there is there room to get to it for maintenance?
Got ahead of myself. I saw in your next video =D
Haha I really appreciate that Chris! I probably should have mentioned the hatch sooner lol
@@THEpremieroutdoor I thoroughly appreciate the energy, attention to detail and overall love for the work your doing. There is a lot of that missing these days. Keep up the good work =D
Thank you my man! We definitely have a lot of fun at work
Where is the service access to the hot tub?
I'm going through a similar hot tub/flush deck level project. Wife bought a hot tub and then asked me what we had to do to get it installed. There went my summer. Anyways, I'm building in a trap door on the deck for service access.
Your gonna get shit on for not putting Rebar in the pad then placing 3000lbs on top! I know... I know... but Just be ready lol CZcams keyboard contractors like to come out in bundles!
They are my favorite 😹😹😹
@@THEpremieroutdoor I love them so much! Im often challenging them on Stanley Genedeks channel and challeng their bs with references from ICPI, standard building codes and so on!! Its genuinely a good time hahaha
I don’t usually try to fight them with logic, I’d rather just sarcastically troll them lol
@@THEpremieroutdoor I usually hit them with the full 200 word paragraph because I type real fast with sources and It breaks them down to petty insults like "you're" or a deleted comment altogether hahha I enjoy it
@@THEpremieroutdoor BTW Love the video!
Nice
what is that nice floor board is it wood or composite please
How long did that take to dry for the hot tub to be put on?
No rebar for water weight????!?!
What software do you use to come up with 3d render?
It’s called real-time landscape architect
@@THEpremieroutdoor thanks :D my mom soon to be stoked haha
대박 👍
What software do you use to design your outdoor living areas? I do decks and am always looking for the top software and I love your renderings
He has videos on his channel showing how he goes about designing these layouts and what programs! It used to be punch landscape but now its realtime landscaping pro I think
how long after the concrete pour did u put down the hot tub?
Dry instructions are usually right on the bag of whatever concrete you're drying. It will vary. Temperature thickness and mixture all should be right on the bag.
Great video...how long do you need to wait before putting the hot tub on the concrete slab?
I’d wait at least a few days
Wait at LEAST 28 days.
Not referenced in this video - but I see you guys usually stain or paint any exposed wood (like your pergolas) and such. Do you use kiln dried? Or just have a drying warehouse to keep your 6x6 and dimensional lumber?
I'm a builder myself - working to get to your level ;p but, hadn't found an ideal system to offer other than returning to the site 2 months later to allow the lumber to dry out...then stain.
Any info would be a major help. Can't wait for the next one!
Iv wondered this myself!!
Im sure they just build and paint/stain and leave any future stuff to the HO!!! I see many builders who deck with composite do it the same in my area in Ontario. on pergolas, not decking..
I think the theory is that the stain will last/look good long enough (2 seasons or so) to justify staining right away in order to get that "finished" look for your customer and them to enjoy it ASAP without the "oh they need to return to do this or they need to return to stain that"... The HO can immediately invite and enjoy/brag!!
which also helps getting that final payment!!
If you promised/quoted/estimated a pergola to be stained, it better be stained otherwise contract dispute ... and yea! You get it !
I’ve found that with vertical elements like 6x6s as long as they are not really wet with preservative they take up stain really well. Has to be a transparent stain or you should buy kiln dried which isn’t that much more expensive anyway. I definitely wouldn’t do it on a deck surface but it works great for vertical elements. I did it on privacy screens in my backyard 3 years ago and it still looks awesome
@@ChapmanMain I do the vast majority in composite - but when I'm mixing elements to transition to a pergola. Or vinyl railings up - there can be some pretty wonky mats transitions when you get these mid tier mixed budget customers.
@@THEpremieroutdoor 10-4. I'll have to ask my lumber supplier about kiln dried. I'm more referencing the pergola and railing transitions when going with composite decking. Many mid tier budget clients here in central VA - so they can swing the composite upgrade - but can't usually justify the bump to vinyl or metal railings to hit that next level of maintenance free.
@@joewoodyard7572 You got your answer sir from one of the best 😉 ill delete my bs lol
Looks good, where’s Pat? You better not have fired him...again
Thanks,
DC
He makes an appearance in the video lol
Glad I’m not the one who has to work on that buried hot tub.
We are building an access panel
That concrete doesnt need rebar to support all the weight from the hot tub?
put a pad and call it a day waste of lumber
Super thin concrete for a hot tub?
No mesh in slab ?
Looking forward to seeing some techniques and guidance, instead 80% is your face blocking the view of the project area.
The chewing gum is so distracting.
