| Chicago, USA, July 13, 2019 - Hosts USA defeated Brazil in five sets 3-2 (25-21, 17-25, 21-25, 25-20, 15-9) in the second semifinal of the 2019 FIVB Volleyball Nations League on Saturday in Chicago.
USA progress to the final on Sunday, when last year’s bronze medallists will take on reigning champions Russia.
USA first defeated France before winning against Russia in their second match of the Finals pool phase to qualify for the semifinals as the top ranked team in Pool A. Brazil on the other hand first lost to Poland in Pool B and then defeated Iran to progress. They finished second to Poland in Pool B.
Head-to-Head
- United States and Brazil met each other on 76 previous occasions in world level major tournaments. USA won 27 times, Brazil 49.
- World level major tournaments are World Championship, World League, Olympic Games, Grand Champions Cup, World Cup and Volleyball Nations League.
- Brazil (49 wins against USA) are one win shy of becoming the first team to beat another side 50 times in world level major tournaments.
- Brazil and United States played the bronze medal match in the 2018 VNL. USA won 3-0.
- Earlier in the 2019 VNL, Brazil beat United States 3-0 in the preliminary round. This match took place on 31 May, the first day of the 2019 VNL.
- Brazil and United States will meet for the seventh time in the semi-finals of a world level major tournament. Both sides won three times.
United States
- United States secured their semi-final spot in the 2019 Volleyball Nations League by beating France 3-1 and Russia 3-0 in the final round.
- With a win in this match, United States could better their performance from the 2018 VNL, when they lost their semi-final 3-0 against France.
- United States could win their first major world level trophy since lifting the 2015 World Cup. The last time they won a world level tournament on home soil was the gold medal at the Los Angeles 1984 Olympic Games.
- United States have lost each of their last five semi-final matches in world level major tournaments, since a 3-0 win over Iran in the 2014 World League.
- Benjamin Patch is the most efficient attacker in the 2019 VNL, with a 55,95% spike success rate.
- Garrett Muagututia (20.21%) is one of only three players with a receiving efficiency percentage above 20% in the 2019 VNL.
Brazil
- Brazil reached the semi-finals of the 2019 VNL after two five-set matches, a defeat against Poland and a win against Iran.
- In the 2018 VNL, Brazil also lost their first and won their second final round match. In the semi-finals, Russia proved too strong (3-0).
- Brazil can become the first men's team to have won all major world level competitions at least once, by winning the 2019 Volleyball Nations League.
- Ricardo Lucarelli Souza (55,71%) is the second-most efficient attacker in the 2019 VNL, behind only USA's Benjamin Patch.
- Ricardo Lucarelli Souza has scored 194 points in the 2019 VNL. Until now, three players have crossed the 200-point mark in this year's competition: Iran's Amir Ghafour (249), Japan's Yuji Nishida (219) and Germany's Simon Hirsch (204).
- Only Japan's Yuji Nishida (23) has scored more serve winners in the 2019 VNL than Ricardo Lucarelli Souza (21).
- Thales Hoss has a 28.21% receiving efficiency in the 2019 VNL, almost 6% higher than any other player. Next up is Argentina's Santiago Danani with 22.65%. - Sport

I watched this match live in 2019. One of the best match in VNL 2019. Best moment of the match 10:30 was mega rally when Jendryk made a dig and Christensen made one handed set then Anderson spikes with his all power.
Passei um tempo sem acompanhar o vôlei masculino. Agora vejo as equipes quase todas no mesmo nível. A vitória ou derrota é definida por pequenos detalhes. Muitas defesas de cortadas muito rápidas. É nítida a ascensão das equipes em tempos recentes.
Passou da hora de aumentar a altura da rede, a largura e o comprimento da quadra, e continuar 6 jogadores em quadra.

Eu acho que deva continuar do jeito que está. Acho que se implementar essas modificações que você falou, o jogo vai perder a sua dinâmica. Enfim, vai ficar algo truncado. Bom, essa é apenas a minha singela opinião.
@@Jacyplantas Se aumentar acaba o volei. O bloqueio é alto, quase ninguem consegue passar limpo pelo bloquei duplo inteiro. A unica coisa destoante é o saque, so limitar 1 metro atras sem poder cair dentro da quadra que esta resolvido, mexer na rede, NUNCA......

O time brasileiro está com sério problema de recepção. Principalmente quando o adversário saca flutuante. E algo que chama muita atenção é o baixo rendimento do líbero Tales, fez péssimos jogos nestas finais, talvez seja adequado pensar em outro para ocupar esta função, o Brasil tem ótimos líberos, mas o Tales não dá mais, compromete a linha de passe do time, inclusive em alguns momentos, os ponteiros tiveram que cobrir maior parte da quadra devido ao baixo rendimento do líbero que obrigatoriamente deveria ser a melhor e mais segura recepção do time.

Jogasso! Brasil ñ começou bem, mas reagiu, melhou o saque e os amrecicanos senitiram, mas a parti do momento que o passe do Brasil caiu, eles voltaram pro jogo, cresceram no saque, quem diria, usando o flutiante, q até agora eu ñ entendo o porque de tanta dificuldade e tambem o pessimo bloqueio. Brasil a parti do 4 set ficou marcado, Um show do Crhistienson, shoji, Anrdeson e Sander, depois de virar no 4 set, com a moral la em cima, passearam no tie Braik. Brasil ñ teve concistencia, na fase final e pagou por isso!

Vinicius Lima, o saque flutuante é difícil porque, como a bola vai praticamente sem giro nenhum e o ar que bate nela muda totalmente a direção da bola, então ela chega no receptor ziguezagueando muito, o que dificulta o passe.
Só mostram lances dos americanos. E no final só deu Brasl. Parabens ao imparcial que editou o video
