  • I knew it would be impossible to do 10 minutes. Way too much cool stuff just in that one title! That's the power of Joe's art though!! The time flew by!

Joe literally influenced an age of art style. World of Warcraft, League of Legends, Wildstar, and many other games have him to thank for his style and without Joe they wouldn't even look like they do now.

He is. You just have to understand the progression over the years in the industry. His style spawns a general style in a lot of games that is very derivative of his own. He is "that guy", my dude.

Battle Chasers kicked off the American fantasy book surge! Soon after we got: Soul Saga, Tellos, Divine Right, Warlands, Gear Station, Scion, The First, Victory, Heirs of Eternity, Arcanum, Re:Gex, Soulfire and more....

Yeah Joe was worried a fantasy book for the American market wouldn't receive it well. I am under the impression that initially issue 1 sales were a little sluggish too...but it picked up fast after that~~@@

Man, you have a good eye! I did ink that Red Monika piece on vellum. From what I remember I inked a DV8 pinup that Joe did on vellum as a tryout for Battle Chasers. I can't remember but I think I did this one before that. Joe liked what I did and I got the gig. I only got to ink the first 8 or 9 pages of the Battle Chasers Prelude before he ditched me for Tom.

When I see Joe's art, I see the shapes of a manga with the bold details of comics.
First Marvel Comic I ever bought was Deadpool #2 the Circle Chase.
His Joe, and Jim Lee's art have been a big influence on me. They set my standards for comic book art.

I’ve seen on Twitter very popular artists with huge followings not only mimicking Joe’s style but saw highly voted art that were exact same poses and style to Joe’s old X-Men days. Guess they forgot there’s old Joe fans out there that can spot his stuff being an influence from a mile away.

Madureira is great but after Tom McWeeney left so did I, his inks were exceptional and didn't like the other inkers. Joe's inks are actually pretty good. Never seen those black and white pages, I've seen the cover but it was in color in the Wizard Wildstorm Special.
