When I was in Junior high I wasn't allowed to have a backpack at all and we didn't have lockers so I had to carry all my heavy books all day. Last January I finished my second semester of 11th grade on online through my school it's basically homeschool and I get to work at my own pace which I really enjoy bc due to being able to do that I have wayyy better grades. I honestly wish my mom would've let me do online school sooner bc it's the best decision I've ever made and if I need help or have to take finals I do go up to the school but I don't have to wear a uniform bc im technically homeschooled. When I was in public school I was making F's all the time but now that I am homeschooled I make A's and B's and C's bc I can work at my own pace when I was in public school I didn't have that option and with me being ADHD and mildly dyslexic it's easier for me to work at my own pace than at the pace of the school system and I'm able to stay ahead I've done finished everything for this semester a month earlier than all of my friends that go to public school.

I'm in my third year of homeschooling my daughter, and my latest thing i have learned is that school should be as fun as possible (within reason) and also a clean and beautiful learning environment is helpful for both of us.

I really needed this! We are in our first year of homeschooling, and I wonder almost ever day, if I made the right choice, in the moment. I know I did, but we are in the 1st year/learning curve/mom:teacher thing/my child hates doing his work, but doesn’t want to go back to school, and I can’t wait to get past it, ha!

I’m so feeling you on that!!! 6 year old does want to go back to school but only because he misses his friends and old teachers (who aren’t there this year either because they stayed home with their babies). So now trying to figure out how he can see some of his old friends now that some of the restrictions are easing up but still homeschooling Because he definitely won’t be going back to public school!!!

This was so helpful and validating ❤️ after crisis schooling through the end of the year, which did not work well for my kids. We decided to homeschool, I always felt like I wasn't qualified to teach them. I went with a box curriculum for next school year, we transformed our 4 season porch into a classroom. They are so excited and with the box curriculum I feel like I can teach it to them. Hearing how you've navigated the challenges of being both Mom and Teacher was encouraging ❤️

Hey Becky - great video! I do have a couple of questions or maybe video ideas...
1.) how do you "report" homeschooling? Meaning how does your child get credit for that year of school? Where do you send their grades? How will you provide transcripts for college applications, etc.
2.) homeschool conferences? Do you recommend any? Are they worth it?
3.) homeschooling more than one child at a time. Tips on juggling that WELL.
Thanks so much! We have 3 girls 3rd, 1st, and K and for a few reasons, we are praying about what is best especially for our oldest.

Thanks! Well, every state is different and has different requirements. For our state, I have to keep attendance and samples of work but I don't have to report anything to the state. For that reason, I don't keep a report card until middle/high school. Now that I have a high-schooler, I'm keeping grades and will eventually turn that into a transcript that colleges will ask for when my daughter applies. As for homeschool conferences, I've never been to one. I'm sure there's great value in them but I personally didn't feel the need or want to attend one. Homeschooling more than one child at a time can be tricky and it's always changing. The good thing is, your girls are so close in age that you could probably combine subjects if you wanted to. We did that for as long a possible until my oldest was too old to do the same work as my youngest. Either way, it's really a juggling act and planning your lessons in such a way that you can help one child while the other works independently and then switch. I hope that helps!

We’ve tried a few years but she’s getting more and more miserable. She did amazing during COVID so I know she will do well.

Thank you for.this. I homeschooled my son years ago in Grade K and now my daughter is in 6th grade and has TERRIBLE teachers and I have to pull her until we buy a new house and get her into a better school district because she wants to continue playing cello with groups next year. Who knows? Maybe we will.keep going.

Thanks for this video! I’m going into 11th grade and did the online school option for last year. I really enjoyed online so I wanted to ask a few questions
    1. Is homeschooling primarily similar to online school?
    2. Do my parents absolutely need to teach me themselves or can I teach my self by reading, studying, etc
    3. Can the home school courses be equivalent to the courses for public school? I take advanced classes such as AP, honors, and elective classes so I want to know if those classes will be the same at home
    4. What’s the process of transitioning to homeschool, like the paperwork
    Thank you!

I don’t know if anyone has asked this, but one of tbe things that scare me about this is that my daughter is on an IEP and I don’t know how to supplement the “help” we need.
Also, I want art and music and PE option and not always on a screen video.

I’m a single working mom and want to home school my daughter. Do you think it’s possible to work full time and still homeschool? Any advice?

    • @aplacetonest
      @aplacetonest  Před 4 lety

I definitely think it's possible but first, it would depend on several things. The age of your child and how responsible they are. Can they be safely left at home alone and would they be disciplined enough to get their work done. It wouldn't be easy but depending on the curriculum/program you use, your child could do a lot, or all, of their work through online programs like Teaching Textbooks and BJU Press. They have online lessons and you could check their work when you got home. There are also some libraries that offer free online tutoring through a website called Tutor.com. Also, some school districts offer free schooling that's technically part of the public school system but can be done from home. There are quite a few options available that you would need to research. I would start by calling your daughter's current school and board of education to find out what your options/requirements are. I hope that helps! :)
