Each year this tithee comes before Debi Pakhha begins. This 15 days before Debi Pakhha is known as Pitri Pakhha. today thousands will dip in the River Ganga then offer Respect & Homage to their ancestors. Unless & until this celestial remembrances is performed devi Durga can not be worshipped. This was the belife since long. After This Sradh or Ancestors remembrance event Eye painting or Chokkhu Daan or Dristidaan began. Time has changed and barely or hardly one can afford this luxury use of time in the Century. Hence Chokhhu Daan or Dristi daan also gone reformations and due to huge number of idols began to meet up the demands, artists have no alternative other way rather than to paint Eye of Durga prior to this Mahalaya Tithee. But in some traditional house hold Pujas particularly of the Bonedi Bari where this ritual & practice is still followed even today.
We have captured the Eye painting of such a Durga Pratima in Kumartuli at the Studio of the Artist Shri Monti Paul born with inherited artistic talent holds his family tradition in clay art/sculpture creations with well reputation. His father was great clay artist cum sculpturist Shri Sunil Paul. This is the Best Durga Pratime that our Channel finds among all other Durga pratimas made for Durga Puja Festival for 2023. Ma Durga is standing in a Vaishnabi style so her children. Peace & Tranqulity is reflected by this special style. Moreover the color applied on Ma Durga is richly contrasted which are Deep Red & bass Green with Saffron. This striking application of these colors hypnotises our eyes magically. The skin color is very difficult to describe. it is only to be felt. Blackish Golden color perhaps represents the working women folk of rural Bengal.
