As the prelude to Italy 1990, England organized a friendly with Uruguay, and the game was nothing short of extraordinary.
Uruguay made a brilliant start by scoring a sensational goal that left the fans at Wembley speechless. Ostolaza executed a counter-attack to perfection, and with an exceptional header, he beat Peter Shilton.
However, Bobby Robson's England team was determined to show their class.
Stuart Pearce sent in a cross from the left, and although it appeared harmless, John Barnes showed his skill by controlling the ball with his chest and unleashing a superb left-footed half-volley that nestled into the top corner.
Despite England's response, Uruguay regained their lead ten minutes later. Perdomo's free-kick caught Shilton off-guard, and the ball crept in at his near post. The match ended 2-1, and Robson had a lot to think about before the Euros.

Uruguay era un equipazo que pudo minimo haber llegado a semifinales pero al igual que en el 86 todas las expectativas quedaron en nada con un juego bastante irregular.

Así es. Creo que en el 90 el problema capital fue en el partido con España ese penal que erró Sosa. De allí en más el Principito no la armó y ya nada se pudo hacer.
