- (1/16/2024: If you want to see how this repair held up a year and a half - and about 50 games - later, check out this update video: • DIY Goalie Blocker Rep... )
Now, I'm not an expert in either goaltending or equipment repair, but after my first goalie lesson earlier this year ( • I Was A 44-Year-Old Ro... ), I got the goalie bug, and went out and bought a set of used gear. The only problem with it was the wretched condition of the blocker palm.
Yes, I could go and have it professionally replaced for about a hundred bucks, or I could go on Sideline Swap and get a replacement blocker for just a bit more. But I have some leftover leather, and thought I'd try my hand at a DIY palm replacement.

You definitely did it the most cost effective way. On my last blocker I bought a new palm at an online hockey store for about $30 and cut out the old and sewed in the new. Both ways work great!
Goalie is most fun. Never played out😂👍
Not bad at all! Better than a lot of the repairs I do. Next you unstitch something...try cutting every 4th stitch from one side...and then pull the thread from underneath..it'll basically unzip and come off really smooth.
Thanks for the tip! :)
Love it - way to go man!
Hey buddy, hope you're doing well.
Doing well here, thanks. Hope you are as well 😁
What if the mesh is ripped at the finger tips
I'm not a professional repairman, but maybe it could be sewn back a bit further into the mesh? If you're unsure, I'd take it to a gear repair shop if there's one around you, or ask if your local tailor or shoe repair shop could do the work?
What needle and thread did you use?
Just cheap leatherworking thread and needles, nothing too fancy!
