M Cron Fudo Dachi (Sochin Dachi) helps your stability, and takes you lower to the ground. It also helps to get you closer and inside your opponents guard and it extends the reach of your lead hand. These are just a few benefits of this stance. It is important to remember stances are momentary, they are part of your movement, they are not meant to be stagnant. Only in training kihon and kata are stances static.

Gerry Griffin I only recently learned that in kyokoshin karate, their fudo-dachi is what Shotokan would call hachiji-dachi. Interesting, yes? The ‘fudo’ aspect is more mental, maybe? Whereas Shotokan’s fudo-dachi seems more a grappling stance that we then execute techniques?
