Van Life - Avalanche Lake in Glacier National Park

- Day 15 on the Road - We woke up in Apgar Campground inside West Glacier National Park. Needing to get some work done, we parked by Lake McDonald next to the Apgar Village to post up, made some breakfast and got some work done over the next several hours.
Our goal zero ran out of juice, so we moved the van into the sun (hadn't seen much of it the last couple days). To speed up the process we plugged it into the wall outside the public restroom. Meanwhile, Becky got a mound of huckleberry ice cream and (not surprisingly) devoured the whole thing before heading on a 4.5 mile hike.
We got on the Avalanche Lake trail head around 4:30pm, it was a dense forest of cedars and tons of trees were fallen every which way from a storm. Most of the hike was in thick forest along the creek, so we were on high alert for bears and mountain lions. We had our bear spray but nothing to make noise, so we'd whistle (the tune from Parent Trap) and clap our hands. The trail was 4.5 miles round trip and not too steep of an incline. Once we got to the top the lake view was AMAZING! The colors on the mountain were bright yellow and green, there were 4 waterfalls overflowing from the glacier and were so picturesque. We stayed a bit playing with the cameras, trying to get as many shots as possible to capture the sight just right. We were the only ones up there for a while, so we really had to take in that private moment of such a beautiful place. After 6pm, we hit trail back down with a quicker pace, still whistling and clapping on our way down.
We made it to the car during sunset and we stopped at the dock to take some photos of Lake McDonald by the campsite since we missed the sunset the night before.
We made our way through the campsite, it was much busier on a Monday than it was the night before! We had to go to loop B to find a spot and get a fire going asap so we could make dinner. It was already around 8:30 by the time we were getting settled. I put tin foil dinners together with potatoes, carrots, onion and sausages, but the wood just wasn't burning well and was not optimal for the coals we needed to cook well. We set the dinners in for about 15-20 minutes, Ryan's actually turned out alright but mine was still underdone and crispy. We moved everything inside the van because it was late and cold, wanted everything to be cleaned up and inside so we could fall right asleep after eating. I set up the jetboil and poured my dinner into a large pan, cooking an extra 15 minutes and still borderline done. At that point, I didn't have much of an appetite, I had a few bites, turned off the light and went to bed.

you two are hilarious! haha
This is my fave video cuz Becky is laughing so hard in the background and it makes me laugh. And FYI, my GF would do the exact same with an ice cream bargain.
Cute video guys. With the driving you had before you was charging the Goal Zero via the van not an option?
Thanks! We unfortunately do not have the 12v car adapter but will be ordering one soon, ha.
you guys show some beautiful scenery. thanks
Becky, you need to have another spoon when people want to share.
Ryan, get a life, put on some Willie Nelson geez.
keep up the good work. have fun
Haha, Thanks Big Joe.
$4.75! Dang that's cheap! Money well spent, in my opinion.
