  • Since outbursts and sullenness are common in boys, it's easy to assume that's just how boys are and they will eventually grow out of it. But what if we understood the reasons behind their meltdowns or aloofness? What if there were tools that could help boys build an emotionally strong foundation?
In this episode, Josh and Christi talk with their dear friend, David Thomas, LMSW, author, and Director of Family Counseling at Daystar Counseling in Nashville, TN, about his new book Raising Emotionally Strong Boys.
    Here are some highlights:
    - Practical ways to help your son be resourceful, aware, resilient, and empathetic
    - How we can help our boys problem solve in the midst of their self-pity
    - Strategies to help boys discover a middle ground between shame and blame
    - How to narrate your own navigation strategies in real time with your kids

I listened on the podcast, well actually I haven’t even finished the episode, but went looking for the audio book of Raising Emotionally Strong Boys. I found it, bought it, and am a couple of minutes in and when the part about the mom who said her son threw the controller, and started crying, when told he would have to get off soon, had me crying. Mainly in relief to know I am not alone, and there must be help in this book. Thank you Josh and Christi for having David Thomas on. ❤️❤️❤️❤️

My son is 10. He is very different then the personalities your talking about. My son gets very upset with my husband and I for everything and never feels shame sadness or anger. He feels it is always our faults no matter the situation and refuses to acknowledge or apologize. If he does poorly at school or gets reminded at home to brush his teeth, he gets very “this is your fault”. I’m confused and have no idea with what to do here….
