A QSO with Jim WB2REM in Port St. Lucie, Florida about 3,200 miles away from me in Western Oregon at the bottom of the sunspot cycle.
Jim runs the 7.163 Net. Which helps people contact stations from around the world because of the wonderful equipment he has.
He’s run the 7.163 net many years and long distance stations check in for long distance QSO’s. Catch that Net at 7.163 beginning at 5am Eastern.
I’m very blessed and grateful to own this special radio. It’s the best radio I’ve ever used or owned by far.
The 101’s ability to dig out signals stuck out in the hash is fantastic. I’ve never had a radio this good at receiving such weak signals.
The instructions really don’t give you good advice on which mouse to buy for this radio so you can “point and click on a signal or something else on the screen. This video provides an explanation as well as a mouse that will work wirelessly with the 101D and 101MP.
This is an exceptional radio and one that I am so thankful to own.
It’s everything I expected and so much more and I have 40 years of high-end radio DX experience that I’ve used in the past to compare it to.
There honestly is nothing that compares with the VC tune and DNR on this radio you can actually completely copy a signal coming in at S zero.
This video will explain the mouse you need to make it work with this rig as well as a little bit of the DNR and VC tune features.
Please leave any questions below in the comments section and I’ll be happy to address them. I know comments were very helpful to me when I was looking at buying this radio. - Zábava
Very informative. Blessings to you and family
Thank you Dave. Thanks really kind. Blessings to you and yours as well my friend.
Larry
I love HF videos because I have no gear. Thank you for the video.
Hello and thanks for your kind reply!
Every day at 1pm Pacific I’m usually live with it, but lately a lot of “life things have stopped the show.” the shows are getting better than this one was lol... man it’s been awhile since this video! Come to the show and we can make some calls live.
Lovely radio .
Thanks very much. This is the first “high end anything“ I’ve ever been able to get. Thanks for your nice words.
I love my FTdx101D, had it for a year and it is hands down the best receiver I ever had, plus get Unsolicited audio compliments as well. I also like that everything is customizable if you dont like the speed of the scope or water fall you can change it. Also you can change colors of the scope. The radio I replaced with my 101d is the ftdx3000, and it was great but this thing is phenomenal. Thank you for your video, I wish I had been able to see it before buying three different computer mice before I found one that worked, I was one of the first purchasers so I had my mouse before you bought yours. 73
I totally agree ive had this set for about 10 months absolutly love it
Nothing like an Apache Labs radio
Everyone has their own “love” right?
Is the Apache Labs better or worse?
A “long ago” Larry!
You should post links to the products you mention either with or without affiliation to further enrich the engagement value of the material you post.
Did you buy extra filters
Good device 👍
Hi, I gave you a bash in a comment on another video, but this video has answered a question (mouse control). It is also great to see a FTDX101 not displaying the hideous 3d spectrum. Naturally I am trying to reach through my computer screen wanting to rip that screen protector off, they get peeled off as part of my unboxing... 73
No problem my friend. I’m glad you came back to the channel very sincerely.
I COMPLETELY AGREE with your comment about the 3D waterfall. It’s absolutely useless. I would consider it “a novelty at best.“
I’ve personally found the FTDX 101 series and FTDX 10 to be virtually identical receivers. The only plus to the 101 is the addition of “VC Tune” which, like Icom’s “Digi Cell” can help to attenuate stronger signals so you can pick up the weaker ones nearby.
While the sensitivity and selectivity on the FTDX10 is brilliant, it’s ergonomics are terrible in my opinion. All of the controls are simply way too close to the VFO knobs, making it difficult to control things on the Transceiver without slightly touching the VFO.
In my opinion, this is where mouse control on the FTDX 10 is very useful. It’s unfortunate that your design has the buttons so close however to the main tuning as well as the additional filter control outer dial.
This echoes Rob Sherwood‘s opinion on the transceiver as well.
Thank you again for coming back to channel channel! It’s really a pleasure to meet you.
Larry
@@HamRadioLiveShow I like the water fall more than the regular fall, due to that I can see more of the after thought QSOs that was there,if you know what you are looking for, maybe it hasn't grown on you folks but, don't degrade the system.I live in an area that has lots of lightning strikes up in the moutains ,so I can see spikes that are shown in the 3D waterfall,so that's my opinion.
So many menus required for simple tasks.I’ll keep my ICOM 7610 and far fewer menus.
what wireless Logitech mouse model are you using ?....please......I tried some series 3 and no go........
Logitech 310 Will work just fine.
@@HamRadioLiveShow ok,thank you for the reply back.
My M325 wireless mouse does not work and the rig has the latest firmware from 8/2023.
Can you smooth out the graph on that display? It's so erratic.
I can’t “smooth out the graph.” This is my father-in-law‘s radio who was visiting us for a week or so and these are the settings he likes so I didn’t want to mess with it.
That’s real time not an averaging like on the 7610. It can be slowed some but it’s still pretty fast, that’s the only thing that’s stopping me from buying this rig, why Yaesu won’t fix it in the firmware is beyond me. It wouldn’t take that much, give me eye fatigue and headaches.
I own both the 101MP and the Icom 7300 and the 7300 waterfall display (similar to 7610 just not as big) smokes the Yaesu, but I can still pick out signals on the Yaesu using the scope, even lite ones. And I didn’t buy the radio for the scope ;).
Are there additional filters installed or is this the base MP version?
On the MP version, you get 100 watts more :
The FTDX-101MP Includes The Following:
External Power Supply With Front Speaker(FPS-101)
VC-Tune Unit X 2 (For MAIN and SUB Bands)
300Hz CW Filter (Main Band)
Hand Microphone SSM-75G
Averaging is ridiculously fast
Think faster... you’ll be able to follow it.
Does average really matter in the big scheme of things?
Greg Boggs to some Who want to post things it is obviously. But to those of us who own one of these radios and have used many others, there’s no question how good it is.
We all use them differently to our own comfort level I suppose.
Not any Logitech 3 series works like you said because I purchased a 3 series based on this video and it does NOT work. I purchased the 325 and it does not work. I've also read other people mentioning the same thing where certain models worked while others do not.
there are quite a few counterfeit Logitech mice on eBay which do not work but the originals do
Can you leave the power supply on all the time for the Ftdx101mp?
and a beautiful radio has a problem with RF gain in both receivers, in a specific position it makes a click of noise but in some cases
for the rest and wonderful I'm sure that fixing it via firmware
Not exactly sure what you’re talking about but I appreciate you watching the video. Thanks!
@@HamRadioLiveShow same here, don't know what your saying about a clicking of noise ?
good information but terrible production values
Thanks for the comment. I appreciate your input. I suppose once you do some CZcams videos you understand the challenges of “producing them.”
I don't hear any noise reduction in your video. The audio is not intelligible to me.
The DNR is adjustable by selecting the multi knob, setting from the default of 1 to 6 for example gets rid of all the noise, if you go above 5 or 6 it’s too much IMO. It does work well.
