Just some background. The band name is pronounced Neki. The band officially formed in February, a little more than two months ago. Although, they probably have been working on this since last fall. They just popped up out of nowhere at the end of February. I saw the band announcement because I follow Kanade the bass player.
The bass player is the star. If you go back and watch the Lovebites audition video, Kanade was the 15 year old who made the live audition. She’s still in high school. The others seem to be a few years older.
They played their first live show earlier this month where they premiered this song.
I don’t think they are signed. The CDs for this song were handmade by the band and sold only at the show. They are doing this old school and passing out band flyers by hitting the street. Don’t confuse them with some band put together by an agency.

She's marvelous. Very Koga-like in this one.

The visuals focus on the bassist because she provides the driving line of the song. Also, the singer practically spends the same amount of time onscreen.
They're a very new band, of course they're still trying to discover themselves. Formulaic? Doesn't The Warning also rely on a formula? Chicks wearing leather playing rock n' roll?

Many of The Warning's songs are formulaic as well, not that it's a bad thing. It's a good formula. They also use vocal effects and so does BAND-MAID. I don't remember him harping about it during his reactions to either of them. I guess the kids get picked on. 🤣

@@billb.5183 That's one thing I hate about Joel. He plays favorites.

I disagree with Joel. I love it. I don't mind the effect on her voice one bit.

The song was well constructed. It's a great start.
They have some inspiration from BAND-MAID---they have a cover of "Choose Me" among their shorts. BAND-MAID does put that megaphone effect on Saiki, pretty often. And Hika seem to have that button 'on' throughout. I expect they will make different choices, in different songs. Even so, I liked the vocals, the energy was there.
Kanade, the bassist, is very advanced. But I liked the lead guitarist, Natsu, too. She was stomping on the wah-wah pedal like early Kanami.
Good stuff. I don't know whether the song writing was all or partly commissioned. If it's their own writing, that's amazing. In any case, it definitely seems to reflect the tastes of the band members, what with the Kanade's clicky, Koga-style bass, among other things. I'm rooting for them.

True. I would like to know this.

Joel pooping on the English lyrics like always. He should make a special video directed at all Japanese bands telling them that he disapproves. 😁

A little more seasoning, more practice to get tighter and the producers need to let them be themselves. There’s potential but it will take persistence to get away from micromanagement.

I agree. I don't like the vocals. The music is decent and they have some talent.
