    Thanks for making this guide. I've been using an eddy current brake for a dynamometer, but I have to adjust the brake position to change the load, so using your design and just adjusting a friction screw will be much easier

      I use Cura or Prusa slicing software. They are not so different. Just keep the height a little small. I use regular PLA filament. Most of them are bought when they have a campaign. Usually, I will test the filament setting at first time printing using a test model download from Thingiverse. They can tell you what is the best parameters for your filament and bed temperature and printing temperature, etc. The height is usually 0.2 mm, and the bed temperature is 60 C. The printing temperature is calibrated with the model. You can download a temperature test tower as below.

      Thanks for your comment. This is only for very small torque measurement. Just for test. If you want to measure very precise torque it is better use better one. Have a nice day.

    sir it is a great idea which is suitable for my work. i have a doubt how to measure torque for the vertical axis wind turbine. the outlet is the rotating shaft with 15mm dia. if you help me it is useful to my project

      I have made an upgrade version that much easier and precise. You can check the video here. You also need to make a transfer to change the shaft diameter correctly. That is not so difficult I suppose.

    Can I ask you how do you determine the friction applied to the shaft of the motor? Do your results match the datasheet of the motor you tested?

      I have upgraded it to the new version. The friction of this old type is not so stable I think. The torque is at the same level as the motor manual listed. You can check that video also. The new type has a more stable friction source. I hope it will give more correct results.
      The force applied is just feeling, hahaha. You can adjust the screw and rotate with your hand and feel how it works. Then check the experiment result and adjust it a little bit more. Don't use too much at first. The stall current is an important parameter but it may damage the motor if you measure it directly. A stable DC power supply and a good electronic scale will give you great help.
      Please check my new torque meter. It is much easier to control the torque force.

      The dyno is floating except for the restraining trunnion bearings and load arm. When you do a force balance, you can see that the arm is the only thing keeping it from twisting. So the arm length multiplied by the force on the end of the arm is exactly in balance with the friction torque inside. It's how almost all proper dynos work.

      Thanks for your comment. The theoretical line only needs two parameters. The no-load speed and stall current. I use Mabuchi DC 130 for this test.

    I think that we want to measure torque generated from motor rotor, but you only measure the torque which generated by outer race of bearing.
    What is the reason measuring torque generated outer race of bearing, but measuring shaft torque?

      The motor torque is equal to the friction torque in simple construction. If using the gearbox the torque is of course the torque of the gearbox. Thanks for your comment.
