      It was evident from the first scenes with Martians that their society is much more militaristic, plus their official government was the one to want to use the Protomolecule as a weapon. Earth's no innocent with their imperialism and feudalism with the Belt as well as their inability to accept Mar's independence but it's still levels above Mars.

    • @heomji7216
      @heomji7216 Před 3 lety +68

      This show is incredible how it is... gray. It's truely realistic because you see how everyone has both good and bad sides : from the very beginning you have two major powers :
      - the United Nations from Earth are a democratic government in an emergency situation, the UN try to make everyone happy but with 31 billion people on one planet, it must be hard. The UN try to set some social measures like the paper clothes but with this tragic situation being impossible to manage, you clearly see how deep corruption and political fights can be.
      - Mars however is presented to you as a prosperous nation : better technology, enjoyable consumer goods, and a living society rapidly developping and expanding. But since the first episode of the show, it is also told that Mars is a militaristic nation : military service for everyone, incredible amounts of money taken to upgrade and widen the MCRN as soon as possible to, eventually, declare war on Earth.
      As the show goes on you see corruption on both sides, you see honorable men and women on both sides, you see innocent children dying on both sides, etc. Nothing is perfect. Errinwright wasn't right, but he wasn't totally wrong neither. Mars is and always has been a militaristic society. Earth is and will always be the same corrupted government on the same rotten planet where too much people live.

    @laxjoh Před 2 lety +205

    Always thought Mars had a real good shot at winning the war but seeing the actual fleet size comparison here is staggering. It looks like Mars has like less than 1/5 of Earth's fleet in numbers. Ofc, their ships are superior but still that's insane; and even more insane to hear of some of these ships taking on several UN ships at once.

    • @will2brown50
      @will2brown50 Před 2 lety +75

      Mars is outnumbered 5/1 at the start of the war. Not long into the war they've reduced that to 3/1, and that's BEFORE the UNN fleet tears itself apart over Io in the mutiny. Also, they mention in the Vesta blockade that one duster cruiser crippled 7 UN destroyers. Total power imbalance in terms of tech, so the UN just sends hordes of outdated tech at them.

    • @jjiang7488
      @jjiang7488 Před 2 lety +62

      Yeah the UNN was hilariously corrupt up and seemed to just refuse to upgrade their ships. And it’s not like they couldn’t- the Amun Ra class stealth frigates were built on Luna which shows that the UN has the capacity to build ships just as advanced as mars but corruption/bloated costs seems to gut any modernization program.
      This seems to change in Seasons 4-6 as in the books there was a huge purge in the UNN ranks after the third book and in the TV show the UNN gets a pretty badass new battleship, although we sadly never get to see it in action.

    • @Maniac742
      @Maniac742 Před 2 lety +34

      War is often a matter of numbers. The most advanced ship in the world is no match for even 3 lesser ships of the same class. The German's learned that lesson the hard way with the Bismark. The Japanese with the Yamamoto. Pouring so many resources into a single ship just makes it a target.

The protomolucule just took the ship and every piece of equipment apart in venus' orbit, down to each component piece. To the crew, it did exactly nothing. I know they model MCR after Soviet Union but with much of the progressiveness involved with India and China in building the MCR during UN colony era which can be seen as Chinese and Hindu words everywhere on mars to the point it’s like their official language I don’t think they will solely focus their economy on military and terraforming. With their technology, they could easily dominate the tech manufacturing within the system, every computer chip, auto system, robot will be made from mars. And their society wouldn’t collapse that easily

      Not entirely there are also a sizable amount of Americans on mars too. Texans primarily. Mars isn't some Soviet style state rather they are surrounded by enemies on all sides so militarily they have to punch above their own weight where Earth had access to nearly unlimited resources to maintain it's supremacy. Plus mars is dedicated to the terraforming project which requires a lot of water to function. It makes sense mars is reluctant to look at the rest of Sol with envy. Plus the UN believe they have a mandate on mars which mars would never accept.

The show tries all the time to make it seem like Mars is not only powerful enough, but also willing enough, to invade Earth. But they aren't. They don't have nearly enough people to win a ground war. They could hold a defensive. They could win nearly every space engagement they find themselves in. But they can't take over the solar system. They have just enough to hold on to what they have.
