I've been a writer in the industry for almost 2 years and everything you said is spot on. I burnt out quick writing 8 hours a day plus festivals on the weekends and its crushing to miss time with people because you're out of town for another event. The free tickets begin to feel like an obligation rather than a perk. But if you truly love what you do and especially the company you work for, it's worth it. There's a lot of companies that will take advantage of you (especially as a woman) so don't let them.

I left the industry after 10 years and have a lot of thoughts on it. I think the worst con is falling into the trap of comparing yourself to everyone else, it gets really bad. Other con, if you work in live music you will never have weekends off because Friday and Saturday are the biggest show nights.
