My opinion: INDIA should 1st look to speed up Tejas MK2 process if it takes time, 2nd opinion Rafale seems wise choice as we already have squadrons which means no need to speed on training and maintenance again,
If IAF wants a amercian fighter then my choose is F15E or F/A-18E/F which is much superior that F21.
Most important reason to pakistan already has F16 whereas F21 is just upgraded version with Single engine, we want all 4+ generation fighter to be Double engine. JAI HIND.

I have absolutely no confidence in IAF decision making---it will take another 25 years to decide what they really want, and then another 10 to 15 years to shortlist vendors and technical specifications. And finally another 5 to 10 years to narrow down on partners and prototype testing and finally induction after 35 to 40 years.
IAF is confirmed on RAFALE since day one in mmrca 1.... political leadership is non decisive.

I am sure we will not go for f21, only 36 Rafael. We need to get at least another 120 Rafael before we think about another platform.
No Lockheed Martin F-21 as it is so old and close to F-16 (Pakistan). If GE deal goes live, may be Boeing F-15 + F-18 (Navy) would be selected by the IAF. These 2 deals will also connect with Boeing's civilian aircraft final assembly line in India.

There are two different requirement. We need single engine jets to replace 6 squadrons of mig-21...Single engine jets are mainly used as interceptor and IAF needs at least 10 squadrons of it. 84 Tejas mk1 order in pipeline rest is planned to fulfill by Tejas mk2...if Tejas mk2 is coming late we can buy 100-120 f21 or gripen which we can get within 3 years after placing orders. Double engine jets like rafale/su30/f15 are the requirements of MRFA of which we need 4 squadrons. Probably Rafale will be ordered again for MRFA during French President visit in India.
F21 is like touchscreen version of F16😆😆😆

F-21 is not exactly the same as the F-16. Software/Electronics/Radar inside a fighter plane is equally important (if not more) than the engine or the airframe. Engine and airframe set the limits on the physical performance (max speed, max range, max g loads etc). F-35 lags F-16 in many physical performance matrices but the combination of the new Software/Electronics/Radar makes the F-35 indisputable winner.
If F-21 has this new generation of Software/Electronics/Radar then it will be a big update even on Rafael.
The engine is the costliest part of a fighter jet. Rafael is a twin engine fighter and F-21 is a single engine fighter but the physical performance is comparable. From a fleet perspective F-21 will require half the number of engines in stock. Not to mention US made engines need half the repairs and have a life of up to 4 times the french engines.
USA has deployed F-16 to every corner of the earth. That means faster production, easier availability of the spares and interoperability.
The only reason to not buy F-21 is going to be a political one and It all boils down to transfer of tech.

F21 is a proposed single jet fighter and is exorbitantly expensive for all that it offers. Rafale is the perfect candidate for MRFA, but it is too expensive. India shall still buy at least 6 squadrons of Rafale. Meanwhile, tejas MK2 development and testing should be expedited.
India should go to buy su-57 or F-35.

F-16 Fighting Falcon is a top class single engine light combat aircraft and it is 10x better than Tejas Mk 1A undoubtedly. India should buy it's block 70/72 variant. But, in that case it will be definite statement that Tejas was a absolute failed project.
