Where a prince (who is very feminine looking) decides he wants out on a political marriage being forced on him.
He doesn't like the situation as well as the girl in question, for he knew the other and they both HATED the other.
But on a escape attempt from the palace, he runs into a female peasant girl who looks exactly like him.
They switch places, he makes a run for it. An said peasant girl turns out to be a better leader then the prince. An the prince turns out to be better off at the job then the peasant girl was at her job.
Except, this very sweet deal for both comes into danger when (insert magical person who happens to live in the palace) notices the prince isn't attending something that the old prince would not dare to miss but the peasant girl just didn't care for. Blowing the ruse/situation.
So the prince and peasant girl have to stop the villain from ruining the situation. Along with getting help from the princess that the prince was meant to marry. Who does actually fall in love with the peasant girl. To stop the villain.

I thought it was a really nice touch to have "God have mercy on her, God have mercy on me" be sung by the nun that freed Esmeralda. It works pretty well since Anna sung it so differently from the lyrics both before and after. Also puts a whole new context to those particular lyrics.
"God have mercy on her" being genuine concern for Esmeralda's safety, knowing that even though she's free, she's still in danger, and "God have mercy on me" being fear for her own safety knowing that she went against the wishes of her superior. It's a small thing, but really adds a lot of storytelling.
I wonder if she was crushing on Esme as well?
Or perhaps she's crushing on the first nun and wanted the other girl out of the way?
okay probably over analyzing but when the nun with straight hair loses her headdress at the end, i immediately thought it could be symbolism for her going away from God and religion as she spirals into insanity. super cool animatic, i love your style and the way you convey emotions and just everything, so beautiful and perfect

The genius of this piece isn't JUST that she's a nun with these desires in France of long ago, that alone is problematic and beautiful to see displayed, but also her increasing insanity over the slow course of this song. She's wanting an excuse to either kill or love her. She can't decide both... when it should be obvious which she should chose.. if she has this much difficulty choosing then... she never TRULY loved Esmeralda in either life.

Yeah, the main theme is how lust isn't real love. Frollo lusts after Esmeralda but only makes her life horrible.
In the song it's said that Esmeralda is a gypsy and a witch and (at least in my country) loving a gypsy isn't that good because it can be considered a sin by others and choosing to kill or love in this would be a type of sin or a worse type of sin. And loving a witch would have gotten you straight to an execution years and years (ha, the band). Y'know?
Literally. It's obsession and lust, not love. Regardless of a male or female singing, it's clear Frollo never loved Esmeralda and it's was blind lust. He just wanted to screw her.
She does sound like she's losing her mind over an attraction she shouldn't have.

Stone Faced Gucci It's actually quite good. I most certainly would read a story based on this premise. I mean... Not to say Claudia Frollo (as I suppose would be the name of a genderbent Frollo) should be perfect or anything. Growing up on such a repressive environment would not produce a sweetheart to Romanis, specially at the time, but with some development between her and Esmeralda I think it would be interesting to do some 'bait-and-switch' on the 'bury you gays' trope.
Of course, these are just my thoughts on it. I really like your interpretation!

I feel like this has more emotional depth than the original in hunchback of notre dame. Not only does it follow the same subject, but it was considered sinful for a woman to love another woman durring the renaissance. I just love this concept, it just captures a pure woman going against her beliefs to try to have a relationship she knows is against her religious beliefs. It is just more believable for this version of hellfire, and I just love the idea that went with this. Good job dude!

That and the idea of a woman having power in Mideival France was kind of... not gonna happen. Even Eleanor of Aquitaine was powerful mostly because of who she was able to marry.
You literally watched a 3 minute video of a curvy nun lusting over an even curvier woman. This is literally a head canon, not an actual story - let alone one with more depth than the actual Hunchback of Notre Dame, one of the most brilliant movies Disney has ever made. Saying that this 3 minute video has more emotional depth, while humorous, especially considering the fact you measure it by the concept, rather than the quality of story telling, is also a huge misstep.

I would disagree. It is an interesting concept, but it doesn’t have more depth than the original. In the original, Frollo believed Gypsies were an abomination from hell and wanted to get rid of them all, that’s why he’s so conflicted with his feelings of Esmerelda. He believes Gypsies and their existence goes against everything he stands for since he is a man of God, yet he still finds himself drawn to the very thing his life and teachings are strongly against. The lesbian nun idea does have the potential to have the same amount of conflict and depth, but it certainly isn’t better than one of Disney’s greatest works.
Agree. Frollo being female questioning her sexuality is interesting. I imagine she would still be evil and self righteous almost like the Evil Queen from Snow White. I can see female Frollo more as a royal queen like Queen Mary I or Queen Bloody Mary instead of a nun. Just my opinion.

One thing I like about this adaptation is how Nun! Frollo is shaking and crying during this; it's clear that she's genuinely fearing for her soul. It's easy to see the transition to her deciding to lash out at the target of the 'sinful' (in her view) feelings, in a sort of "if I'm going to Hell then I'm taking you with me!" kind of way. The scene of her veil falling to the ground is a good visual of her transition to knowing that she's evil (instead of blinding herself into thinking she's good).
If they are postulants instead of nuns this would make this storyline so much more interesting. A woman devoting her life to the church and God, coming so close to becoming a nun, to suddenly be "lead astray" by Esmerelda. Feeling disgusted with herself not only because Esmerelda was a gypsy, but also because she was a woman.

Can we just sit down and take a moment to realize how beautiful the art style is in this video? There are so many details, and everything looks so shiny and beautiful, and the fact that instead of a female priest, it's Nuns which makes it more accurate, and I'm really am fond of the expressions of the characters, and the symbolism is kinda insane but in an epic/good kind of way, this is amazing

It is pretty good, and I can already see how gorgeous and heart wrenching it of a story its hinting at. It doesn't say it explicitly but the clues are there to build a world and story around this version of the song with this art behind it. It makes me wanna write that story to see just how close I can tie it to the original but still write a new story. This frollo, in my opinion, has a small glimmer of hope to save herself from a hellish end, under the right circumstances.

I think part of why that gets attention is because the church at the time considered being gay an abomination. Society today knows that being gay isn't wrong, or a choice, so it's hard not to sympathize when a woman in a convent in that time is shown crying and saying "It's not my fault! I'm not to blame!" when she discovers that she finds another woman attractive.

Out of all of the animation for this song, this is by far my favorite. The design and expression’s she cast while singing are not good only amazing but far impactful. I wish for this animation to be fully formed into a true work of art with amazing coloring.

I remember the first time I heard the original song when I was younger, the entire meaning flu over my head I actually thought the scene was scary. Then I saw the movie again when I was older and OMG! I was speechless I had no Idea how good the song was. I've been obsessed with it ever since. Now I find this video and I'm so happy it's awesome!!
My only problem with the cover is that Anna doesn't let the note last. But that's just a personal nitpick and I do understand it would be difficult for her to do that. But other than that, the cover and this animatic is bloody beautiful!

This was one of the best I have seen! The emotions were conveyed amazingly and the colours and the splashes of red were amazing! I love how you implemented a story and how the nun who released Esmeralda/gyspy sang some parts because they fit so well!

This is absolutely beautiful!!! A female version of Frollo would be even more confused and angry with her feelings/lust for Esmeralda, and I love how you used the lyrics "God have mercy on her, god have mercy on me." With two different characters.
The way you designed the characters reminds me of some characters from Steven Universe (Esmeralda as Sapphire, The nun who helped her escape as Ruby and the female counterpart of Frollo as Blue Diamond.)
This is really well done, I hope you feel proud of this because you should!

Every. Single. Animatic. I have seen for this cover. Is fantastic.
This feels so much more powerful than the original song. Solely for the fact that with a woman singing it, it brings in the topic of homosexuality. Which I think would have been much more "cursed" during the time period the movie took place in.
That and her singing is so full of emotion where as in the movie it was more bland

I actually love this so much. The conflict of her forbidden feelings towards the gypsy is so relatable and the emotions are so blatant and amazingly-well portrayed. And the added story with the other characters as well as their mannerisms show a distinct personality in all of them. It makes you sympathize with them all and I respect you so much! Amazing job 😊

Alright, 5 years later, I'm back and I'm wiser about what I should say on the internet, and I'll say about this video is what I should've said all those years ago.
This is genuinely beautifully made; the emotions, the feelings, the sense of a religious crisis in the eyes of everyone in this video feel so real that it's actually a tiny bit unnerving. . the symbolism of a once devout hearted Nun being eaten and burned alive as she tries to rectify the fact that she's in love with someone who's a member of a group of people she's persecuted for who knows how long and of the same sex is stunningly drawn.
You've inspired me Jello Squid, you've inspired me to try and come somewhere close to *this* level of visual story telling in my own work. I grew up in a very story-loving home, my father was an artist and my mom knew the best animated movies, our house is covered wall to wall with books of every genre from many authors and many more things, and believe me when I tell you this, this is wonderfully made. I plan on being an author in my life and tell my own stories through the version I'm most familiar with, visual story telling. . such as comic books and graphics novels, and you inspired me to try my best to be as good with it as you are because that's genuinely how much I love this video. Thank you Jello Squid for making this video and changing the course of my life for the better, and thank you CZcams Recommendations for showing me this video all those years ago.
