  • Hi, friends!
    I hope you’re doing well. This week’s video is a major planner update (at least for me) - I’ve officially moved out of my Hobonichi Cousin + TN planner system into a Hobonichi Original A6 + weekly supplement one. I’ll talk about why I decided to make this change now (instead of 2025), how I’ve gone about it, and how I’ll reflect on my experience throughout this month(-ish) experiment before I decide if this will be a permanent switch.
    Reflection questions that I’ll be considering throughout:
    *Before experiment*
    What are my needs and goals?
    How easy is it to get set up and jump into planning?
    *During experiment*
    How do I feel throughout this?
    What is the balance between optimizing for joy, practicality and productivity?
    What are some unforeseen challenges that come up?
    What are some unexpected benefits of this new system?
    *After the experiment has ended*
    What happened?
    How consistent was I in this system?
    How easy/difficult was it to be consistent?
    How did I feel about using this system?
    What do I want to do next?
    I would love to know how things are going with your planner systems at the mid-year mark, and whether you’ve downsized, upgraded, or kept things the same.
    Also, if you have any feedback or requests for future videos, please let me know! Thanks for being here; I appreciate you! 💗

    I also change the timeline on my little A6 supplement bc I only need a timeline during work hours. Its awesome! I had a bunch of timeline washi tape in my drawer so i just white out the numbers and put the washi on top. game changer!

    • @LittleCocoStudio
      @LittleCocoStudio  Před 7 dny +2

      Ooh, a washi timeline is brilliant! 💡Probably a lot faster, too! And, I wouldn’t expect the washi to bulk up too much even if you used it for every week since the book itself is thin. It is such a small tweak, but it got me so excited and motivated to try using it again.

    I'm using my weekly part of the cousin for gratitude logging :) On the left day-free column I have sleep and water trackers as well as a quote. And on the daily ones I have 3 bullet points for gratitude and 2-3 sentences for something storyworthy that happened that day. Works well for me!

    • @LittleCocoStudio
      @LittleCocoStudio  Před 7 dny +2

      That is such a great use for it! Thank you for sharing! 🤩 I wonder if I could transfer my health and fitness tracker (currently in the Weeks) over to the weekly section of the cousin, if I were to use one next year. The daily pages could be for long-form notes / studying, and then the weeklies could be used for health and wellness. 🤔 I wouldn’t mind using the Cousin or another A5 book if it never leaves my desk, and I don’t really take my health and wellness tracker out of my home with me.

      @@LittleCocoStudioHave you tried out Sterling Ink? I think the N1 Standard Vertical Full Year would be PERFECT for you. You could take on the go (it's currently my EDC). Tons of note pages, and a day per page. Fits perfectly in the TN and then you could still keep your travelers insert/notebook.
      Or the A6 Full Year commonplanner - it would just be one notebook together. I've really enjoyed the neutrality of the common planners.

      @@Amrowe23 😍 I’ve got my eye on TN sized Common Planner for sure! And the A6 including the is super tempting. I will be curious to see if she eventually releases a daily dated version, and if the TN book lays flat. If yes to both of those things, I might have a big dilemma on my hands. 😅

    Lovely video! Love all your thoughts and whys. That weekly is so cute! I wish I could come unattached to my hobonichi cousin but i love it for the weekly. I ignore the timeline if honest and just write it in order down. Xx

      Thank you so much! I feel similarly to you in that I feel so attached to the Cousin and how impactful those weeklies have been for me. I’m curious to see how I feel with the weekly supplement, bc when I first tried it in Jan, it was an instant fail for me. Ignoring the timeline seems so obvious, but my brain struggles to unsee them. 😆 At least now I know there’s an option to remove the distraction with a white gel pen or paint marker!

    Great video, really resonated with so much of what you said. I too am moving into the a6. First time working with a daily system, instead of weekly. Excited, but will see. Experimenting is fun! That’s so exciting that you’re icing onto the A6, too! What were you using before you switched to the Avec? And how will you be using the monthly and daily sections? :)
      I took my A6 with me to our vet appointment yesterday. It fit so nicely in my purse, and it was great to jot down notes right after. Technically, I could have done that with my TN passport, which I use as a wallet, but I’ve always found that one a bit less easy to write it bc it doesn’t lay flat as easily as the A6 does.

      @@LittleCocoStudio I've never used an a6 or a daily planner so this is uncharted territory! But I'm in a place where looking at my whole week feels stressful. Just focusing on 1 day at a time feels better. I'll use the monthly for appts/future planning, then dailies for to-dos, notes, small highlights from the day. Then I'll have a pretty piece of scrapbook paper in the shape of a bookmark for the weekly tasks.
      So glad the a6 was helpful at the vet. I'm looking forward to portability too! Have been using an a5 weekly planner. Not fancy, but not at all portable.

      @@LovetheWord311 I can relate to what you’re saying about looking at your whole week feeling stressful. I feel the way when I look at my digital calendar, bc no matter how much I try to minimize it, it just ends up looking like a sea of events, which feels overwhelming. It sounds like you’ve adjusted your system well, and I hope the scrapbook paper for your weekly tasks works out well for you! Yay for portability! It does make me happy to keep a book like this close to me at all times. 🥹🥰

      @LittleCocoStudio  Před 8 dny +1

      I’m usually the same way about sticking with things for the entire year and it does feel really satisfying to have a completed book by the end of the year! I think I’ll still use up the Cousin for this year, regardless of whether I’m using the weeklies in the same way as I started the year off with. Part of me wanted to wait until 2025 to make changes, but with my TN insert running out, I decided to take the opportunity to try this out instead of starting another insert mid-year. What are you going to switch to for next year? ☺️

      @@AvivaHadas that sounds like a great plan! The horizontal weekly would be fantastic for a meal planner. 😍 I might consider the Day-Free for next year as a replacement for the Cousin, although I am also hesitant because I wonder if I’d run out of space. If I tried to commit to one page a day memory keeping, it’d be too much, but as a place for study notes, I love having the additional structure that a blank notebook wouldn’t.

      I'm the same way, because I have horrible memory and I need all my info in one place. I tweak my system every year, but unless some major life change happens (like changing jobs or like when I had a baby and I suddenly needed to track her schedule), I don't change during the year. Really enjoyed listening to your planner update and all the considerations that you factored in. You seem to have reflected a lot on what worked or didn't work for you previously 😊 And I agree, I think considering emotional attachment to a type of planner is important. Especially if your planners are not just functional for you, but also bring you joy. Ooh, from the samples I've tried the Iroshizuku Fuyu-gaki, and I liked it a lot. The name translates to winter persimmon, and it's a reddish orange colour. Hope you enjoy your new planner system, and looking forward to the next update!

    • @LittleCocoStudio
      @LittleCocoStudio  Před 6 dny +1

      I must admit that overthinking is one of my specialties, so I have done a lot of reflecting over the last while. The emotional attachment is the toughest factor to account for because it’s not as rational as the other reasons that I thought about. Even if one system is objectively the best choice and checks all my boxes, I might abandon it if I don’t like it. 🫠 Thank you for the ink recommendation! First of all, I love persimmons, and second, I think it’ll complement the brown inks I’ve got in a few of my pens. 🤎🧡♥️

  • @tuesdayisthenewfriday

    I absolutely LOVED using my A6 techo as my edc! A little tip to help with the bulk of the planner, fold the book back onto itself! Split the book in half so that the pages are equal on both sides and fold it back! It works so well!

    Omg I totally know what u mean regards to missing your standard tn if u let it go. For me it’s a6. A6 is my favorite and when i move from it, in a week or two MAX, I’m back in my A6 TN. I like the thinner inserts with a monthly calendar insert that stays as the others come and go.

    • @LittleCocoStudio
      @LittleCocoStudio  Před 7 dny +1

      Yeah, it’s funny because I thought of my TN as purely functional and even started this year briefly thinking about not using it at all. But I kept coming back to it. At least now that I’ve finished my insert, I feel like I have a bit more of a push to experiment since I can break out a new insert anytime. The thinner inserts are so great for mixing and matching depending on what you’re needing to bring on the go with you. And unlike my Hobonichi cover that I use a cover on cover for, I actually LOVE when my TN cover collects scratches and marks from daily use. 🥹

      I’ve been a bullet journalist for almost 2 years. Recently, I’ve noticed that it annoys me a little bit to redo my calendars. I use a new notebook every 3 months, so I have to set it up. And I like to have a weekly overview. I’m trying to combine a happy planner mini for planning and daily tasks with a regular notebook for morning pages and fountain pen fun. I find it practical that I can transfer the happy planner pages. Theoretically, I could add plain pages for writing. However, the HP paper is not fountain-pen-friendly. So yeah, still testing and trying haha

    It's been a minute since I checked in with plannertube because I picked up a new hyperfixation, so it's lovely to come back and see you testing a system I am strongly considering for next year, except with the day-free or the SI common planner! I've downsized drastically from what I started with this year, and it's mainly because I want it all in one book and I want it to be portable. I also minimized decorating my planner because it was also causing me stress! So this is all very timely and relatable, as always. Thank you for sharing your thoughts!

    I'm just curious, since you used the Traveler's Company insert just for a to-do list, why not just put your to-do lists in the Cousin? Seems like a simpler solution than changing books, but then again nothing is ever as simple as it seems. I know you said you would get tired of flipping back and forth between daily and weekly, but maybe a Midori tab would be perfect for that.

    • @LittleCocoStudio
      @LittleCocoStudio  Před 2 dny

      It’s a very good question, and you make a good case for simplifying things if I were to bring it all into the Cousin. 😅 I briefly experimented with trying to fit everything into my Cousin in January, and it didn’t work for me because I needed the full daily page for my notes and I couldn’t fit my to-do list at the bottom of the weekly page. It might be worth trying again when I finish school at the end of the summer. It wouldn’t solve the portability issue, but it would be a lot more streamlined!
