It's not about being smarter, is practice And they also use methods to do that But it will be useless when they get in logarithmic math or even simple equations
I remember taking these classes and literally crying because i didnt understand it. The taought us three methods, the finger, the abacus and the mental method. I cried during the mental method. And i couldnt always carry my abacus. So the finger method really helps me
The finger metgod is nothing. Its just counting you left hand fingers as 10 and your right hnd fingers as 1. The thumb is always 5. So if you wanted to do 15 it would be 1 finger From left hand and the thumb from the right hand. And uf it was sometging like 79 it eould be thumb and 2 fingers from left hand and 5 fingers from right

THAT is fast adding! I paused between each number and could not imagine being able to process that fast but I guess with practice and repetition is how to pick up speed...this is a superb exercise of the brain.
