After discontinuing the Renegade subcompact SUV in 2023, Jeep plans to bring it back as an EV in 2027. The new Renegade EV will be a completely fresh model, with little resemblance to its gas-powered predecessor. This was confirmed by Jeep CEO Antonio Filosa during a presentation to investors. While gas-powered and hybrid versions haven't been ruled out, Filosa only confirmed the electric version.
The new Renegade will have a starting price under $25,000, though it's unclear if this includes potential tax credits. Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares mentioned that producing lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) batteries will be essential to achieve the $25,000 price point in the U.S. Currently.
The return of the Renegade is just one of several changes for Jeep in the coming years. Next year, Jeep will launch two more products: one on the STLA Large platform and another on the STLA Medium platform. We suspect the Cherokee's return will be on the Medium platform. Filosa hinted at "range-extender" powertrains similar to the 2025 Ramcharger plug-in-hybrid pickup.
Additionally, Jeep's future production plans revealed updates for the Wrangler, Gladiator, Grand Cherokee, and Wagoneer lineups by 2027, aligning with leaked production documents from last year. These updates will likely include new technology and design enhancements to keep Jeep competitive in the evolving market.
The reintroduction of the Renegade EV is part of Jeep's broader strategy to electrify its lineup and reduce its carbon footprint. This move is expected to appeal to environmentally conscious consumers and help Jeep meet stricter emissions regulations. The electric Renegade will likely feature advanced driver-assistance systems and connectivity options to cater to tech-savvy buyers.
