Even though the government wanted him gone he still had a duty to make sure whoever he was going to sell it too would be suitable and would carry on in the clubs best interest. Imagine coming from a poor background, you do something dodgy for a few years, then you make a few quid, go legit buy a few business, 20 years down the line you become really successful, going on 3/4 holidays a year, owning your home, owning a second home abroad ….life is good. All above board then one day the government take everything off you because they find out that the money you started off with wasn’t really genuine. And then you’re back to square one.
