I’m an instructor for a private Cdl school and trust me screaming at the student and grabbing the gear like that only makes them more nervous

Not only does he have to worry about the teacher aggressively shifting when he’s loosing gears. He got buddy in the back seat as well recording and holding in his laugh lol

When the instructor slams it into gear it causes the student driver to be more nervous than they already are.

The instructor is stressing him more than the gears 🤦🏽‍♂️

Everyone's gonna learn somehow. Nobody starts out perfect. Driving these things really is an art lol

We were all rookies in that seat years back… Stay Safe

Relax people in comments. We all been there. Sometimes If I get distracted I'll still forget where I'm at . Only now I look at speed and figure it out instead of jamming it in. Remember the 5 mph rule? 15mph=1+5=6th gear , 25=2+5=7th gear, 35=3+5=8th gear and so on. The First row is simple in gear go to about 17rpm when you take it out of gear and rpm drop to about 15 lightly push it in. Cats and Detroit's are more forgiving..Cummins will drop rpms faster.

I love how Walter White comes out of nowhere and puts it into gear

I remember missing a shift during my CDL training. Coming down a hill towards a light that was a very stale green, blew the shift and was trying like hell to get it as the light was turning and the truck was picking up speed down the hill. I was shitting myself and my instructor, cool as a cucumber says "it doesn't matter which one, but you'd better find a gear".

  • @california_rebel

I remember crying and stressing at the hotel during the training because you only could mess up twice on your final test. Living in my car during the 2009 recession added more pressure. Back completely against the wall. Made it through that. Got my CDL on my 21st birthday homeless in Memphis, TN.

Be patient with him. He shows determination by showing up, sitting behind the wheel and actually trying. He could possibly end up being one of the greats to ever do it and gain himself a brighter future due to your help, knowledge and patience.

Former CDL instructor here - when I had a student in the driver seat for the first time I had them hold the clutch with the truck off and go up and down the gears to learn where they were. Made a world of difference

I hate when instructors don’t give information to drivers while mistakes are occurring.

People may laugh, but at least he's trying to better himself. Not giving up is bad ass no matter how ridiculous you may look.

Whoever is in the passenger seat, he's the last shithead you want up there with you, get someone who will talk you through it before you hit the seat, then reinforce that prior understanding while you're in the seat, best way I've learned and taught

Man. CDL school was actually a blast. Had moments just like this. I was sitting in the back and then it was my turn and started shifting perfectly and my instructor looks over and says "DAMMN! What were you so nervous about? You shift better than some of our instructors!" That was still one of the best things I've ever heard. Had me smiling ear to ear. 😂😂😂
