  • There is no doubt that Taekwondo is a martial art that is devoted to strength and speed. Combining these two elements can result in a hit, if unavoidable, that can lead to the recipient seeing stars. In this video, I will show you 15 occasions, where fighters wished they dodged the strike.

I feel like you should think more positively, main focus of martial arts is to master your mentality, and you have failed that.
But im willing to tell you something, what you took you should savor, You should admire the opponent’s mastery and follow a path like him.
im not saying injury is an excuse, its a serious thing, but if anything, being hurt in martial arts is a definitely something you have to get used to
and recovery is something you should also savor because it feels so good to lay on your bed knowing your team is training so hard while you get to rest XD

Self-defense should be a basic skill just like math, reading and writing.
Jiu Jitsu is promoted as the ultimate self-defense system, but this is what Jiu Jitsu looks like against a striker and kicker (and if there are two guys against you, you're instantly doomed! The other guy will just kick you in the head while you're trying to cuddle his friend):
How Kazushi Sakuraba Destroyed the Gracie Clan
      m.czcams.com/video/yjVM1eRSPlE/video.html
I've learned that the US Military and Secret Service, and even Israel, the home of Krav Maga, are learning Systema (which is a combat system tested and proven by the Russian Special Forces for survival during war times, unlike Jiu Jitsu, Taekwondo, MMA and other sport martial arts, which are not only exclusively for one-on-one, but also don't train against weapons).
I wish Systema were taught in schools (starting from kindergarten) instead of useless P.E. If everyone were skilled in self-defense, there would be less assaults, kidnappings and rapes because evil-minded people would hesitate to attack anyone, knowing they'll be in for a real fight, battling for their own lives.
      Here's a link about Systema:

*Update* : Guys, thanks for the support and comments on my thread, but just to clarify my purpose of sharing this ISN'T to spread hatred or any bad feelings towards this sport or any form of martial arts.
As with all types of sports, it carries risk, and by sharing this story, it is hoped that its practitioners would be cautious and prevent such accidents.

Blocking was a HUGE part of my class. We would actually do blocking exercises with the instructor trying to hit us with a foam stick. Most of these knockouts could have been avoided if they didn't have their arms at their sides while fighting.

I really wanted to go into the ring with him right there, but I was visiting the college, and I had asked a student representative if there were any martial arts clubs and which martial arts they covered. @@keaponlaffin6737 Please explain why learning how to kick is useless on the streets. I'm not claiming it's gonna be useful in every situation, but claiming it's useless seems just as much of a stretch to me. Also, how do you define "real fighting"? If by that you mean a street fight, then there's not a single martial art that teaches real fighting according to you. All the martial arts that have rules or restrictions (boxing, Muay Thai, Judo, Taekwondo,...) are not designed to fight on the streets. That doesn't mean their techniques can not be useful in certain situations though.

      That is kind of wrong.
For one, one of the strongest kicks in Taekwondo is the back kick.
Said kick is not easily blocked, because it goes for your gut instead of your chest.
You will have to actively lower your arms to block the kick, instead of just guarding in front of your chest.
This will also make you vulnerable for a kick to the head, which is basically most of the kicks you learn in taekwondo.
So you either choose to get the wind knocked out of you and vulnerable for a second blow, or you block it successfully and get hit by the upcoming blow on the head.
Or they’re an ITF taekwondo practitioner, and you get pummeled.

Till this time, i was traumatized because the teacher kicked me in the stomach with full power. Yes, i wear protection, but i was 15 at that time and receive a full powered kick in the stomach and i only joined for less than a month. Immediately i fell to the ground and felt like my stomach was trying to come out from my mouth. Since that day, i reluctantly went to 2-3 more classes, and i decided to stop the lessons. Thinking back on it, if the teacher was “demonstrating” the dollyo chagi to me, a mere amateur without full power, i might still continue to train. Aaron Cooks' and the "Bizzare Kick" are actually the same idea.
Foot is hung-up on the opponent's shoulder - what do you do?
Punch to the chest will only get you point and is undecisive. So you use your only foot to kick into the opponent's head.
As you do this, pull down on the leg that's hung-up as the counter-weight (counter-balance). This has the effect of pulling the opponent's head directly into your kick.
As I recall, in TKD, there's no trapping of feet using hands allowed. But in other mixed martial arts, there is.
When your foot gets trapped by hand, can also attempt this same technique.
Since both of their hands are busy grabbing your one foot, they don't have a free hand anymore to block/check your kick.

If anyone wonders why they don't keep their hands up, it's all about the rule. In a TKD match you are not allowed to punch the head, there is no immidiate threat to your face. Yes, they kick fast, but jabs are always faster, an experienced fighter can usually see the kick coming and move out of the way, which is better than blocking. Keep your hands down makes you more relaxed, move faster, kick better, save your energy (if you have even be in a fight, you will know how exhausting it is to keep your hands up), under the circumastence that you know you won't get a puch in the face. That's why you see in TKD matches the fights keep their hands on the side and jumping around, which looks kind of funny. Under less restricted rules like MMA, fighters usually prefer punching and grappling because they are just easier and less risky than kicking. Under that circumastence it will be much harder to land those kicks because they always have their gaurd up.
This is how unrealistic rule can make unrealistic fights, once you throw in rules, it's a match, it's not self defence anymore. I believe if these fighters are caught in a street fight, they will all start punching each other and keep their guard up, the last thing they will think about is a spinning kick.

    2. I studied karate for several years, but moved to a city where it wasn't readily available. I switched to tkd for a year. Eventually returned to my original dojo. Spinning kicks aren't really a thing in karate. During sparring I was able to clock so many of my opponents in the gut with a spinning kick... because their hands were up guarding their head! It annoyed the instructor that I was able to pull this off repeatedly with other students.
I guess the moral is it isn't the fight system, it's the fighter.

    • @Imran-Shah
      @Imran-Shah Před měsícem

I think you are spot on regarding the hands. In fact to go one step further, what really matters is reaction speed. How quick can you use your arms to block an attack. The combination of an opponents attack and a split second of not paying attention is all it takes. This is why I think boxing, as part of training is extremely helpful. A punch can be delivered in truly a split second and you are gone. I couldn't do high kicks so I focused on punching and eye contact. From the moment my gut feeling signaled a slight loss in focus of the oponent, I delivered the punch. Often with succes. Of course, there is only so much this can work in the highest "setting". I wouldn't take on a multiple black belt for a fight because I would lose. But in the past, a few street encounters occured my life, my training (Krav) truly saved me.

I annihilated in kickboxing thanks to my Taekwondo. They couldn't get anywhere near me as I could kick them from metres away. Kickboxing kicks are powerful if they connect though, but they rarely did connect with me because Taekwondo kicks are so much faster.
