    The fact that people are still torn over if they are on either Syanna's or Dettlaff's "side" just confirms how brilliantly complex these characters are. The story and writing for this game is so amazing!

      The ending I ended up getting on my first playthrough was the one where Syanna dies and Dettlaff could live by complete accident, when I was given the choice to spare him or kill him, I sat on that screen for at least 15 minutes to eventually just put the controller down to think about it. The point is I found this scene so powerful that for the first time in any game ever it made me walk away to actually think about it. I decided to kill him because of what he did and to put him out of his misery. Basically I loved the writing of blood and wine because of this dilemma

      Many of us have replayed the game and still have to give the decision pause. I think Detlaff was a dangerous beast but without much reason and Syanna was a man made monster made by her family and those around her. People needed to stop dying but its hard to have to put one or the other's head on the chopping block. Either way, CDPR made us feel lament and kind of dirty regardless of which route we took. And THAT'S excellent complex writing.

    For those of you curious, this is an unofficial track on the OST,
    It’s actually a combination of two “layers”
    The first part is called “Toussaint - Dialogue music shared - sad harp mix”
    The other is called “Toussaint - Dialogue music shared - sad”

    I know this is called Syanna's theme... but honestly, it could be used for Detlaff and Anna-Henrietta too. For whichever ending you choose... for atleast one of these three, sometimes everyone, their part in the story ends in tragedy. In my own playthrough, at first, I destroyed Detlaff but ended up with Syanna killing her sister and in turn dying herself. When I played through the game again, I got the ending where both Syanna and the Duchess lived, but Detlaff perished once again. And although I thought this to be the "best" ending... in the end I cannot say that Detlaff was a wholehearted monster. He -did- do monstrous things like the murders and siccing a horde of vampires onto an innocent city, but he was also a victim of Syanna's manipulation, so I can atleast understand where he came from.
    But yeah... a hundred percent good ending was never an option.

    • @missdoovah
      @missdoovah Před rokem +4

      But Dettlaff ordered the other vampires to attack Beauclair just because Anna Henrietta was stupid and chose to sacrifice the whole town and not just hand over Syanna 🤷🏼‍♀️ that was immature and selfish.
      Dettlaff only wanted explanations, and it was the sisters who were able to prevent the massacre.

    I was wondering where the other video went, glad to see it again. Have alot of experience with just this song. No matter how long it takes, Tw3 just always comes back with it's beauty. Each time I try to describe this game and everything about it, all that comes to mind is "Magic" And that's it, it's just magical...
    I miss the good old days of being literally obsessed with this game. Spending more time with it than sleeping. They were awful days, sure. But there's still beauty in it. Not surprised to be honest, not when it comes to this game. Long comment, but I hope someone feels the same as me. Oh well, love to ya!

    Finally I can understand a little about why this piece its so sad, if you listen Lacrimosa of Mozart, does the same thing with the chords, but in Syanna’s theme its slower, makes them sound like a sigh, 2 chords and then a pause, like u are taking air then letting the air out.

    • @Polomance862
      @Polomance862 Před 2 lety +11

      @@SupersaiyanChristian That's the beauty of the Witcher Universe. Things are never are as they seem. Detlaff, a Higher Vampire deeply loved the illusion that was Rhena. His feelings turned into a weapon against Syanna's abusers, trying to get back at the home that had seen her as nothing more than a curse on the Duchy.
      Syanna and Detlaff were both responsible for the killings caused in Toussaint. Syanna employed a beast of incredible power, who's presence inspires vampiric invasions. Detlaff carried out the will without question, knowing he was in the wrong and cared little. Both Syanna and Detlaff are tragic characters who are victims in their own rights, but also victims who became monsters by the pain they endured.
      Syanna's story is beautiful in the way its presented. She endured pain and festered on it, wishing nothing more than to burn down the home that turned her away; when unknowingly... her little sister sought desperately to restore what was lost between them. Detlaff however, is the loser in this. No matter what, killing Syanna does not undo the crimes he commited; when he's presented that he could've sought help to recover his illusion of a lover. He is the example of how DANGEROUS it is for monsters and humans to be so romantically connected.

      @@Polomance862 And it’s even more tragic that no matter who you save or let die, someone loses a person dear to them and much more. If Syanna were to die, Anarietta goes mad with despair and throws you in prison for your failure to save her. If Dettlaff were to die, you would maintain your honor at the expense of Regis’ status among his kin, unintentionally forcing him into exile. That, along with the last words of Dettlaff’s bio if he should die:
      “As he died, Dettlaff harbored no hard feelings for Regis, knowing that this was the best option for him. There was no longer anything in this world he wished to live for.”
