    Any pickup pulling a large camper over time will need a motor overhaul by 150,000 miles, and a semi won’t need an in frame overhaul until 1 million miles. The pickup also will not stop a large camper like a semi will. Safety, safety, safety. I have over 3 million miles behind the wheel of a big rig (just retired and now full time RVing) so it’s good advice. Stay safe out there. ✌️

      @@thomaswilson8634 industry facts are baloney!! Obviously you have zero experience doing anything practical if you believe in anything written by big companies as standards!!
      I was in business for 32 years, had over 400 employees, owned hundreds of tractors and trailers, pickups, and all kinds of excavation equipment. I was directly involved (hands dirty) in the maintenance, repairs, and overhauling of all of it before selling the two companies and retiring at the age of 57. It irritates someone like me when a person like you starts spewing out supposed industry standards that are not reality!! As a 33 year truck driver and an RVer, the set up you have, using the Peterbilt to haul your equipment is 100% the correct way to do it. That Ram may have been able to keep up, but in the event of an emergency, need to brake hard or make an evasive maneuver, he'd crash every bit of his gear. You'd be able to maintain control due to the trucks weight stability and braking system. keep doing what you guys are doin! Your awesome!

      Not to burst your bubble but I was a truck driver for 36 years and I stand by what I say! It is clearly too much truck for this set up! I’m not saying he shouldn’t use a MDT at all! He has one too many axles and only needs one drive axle which will save on the total length! This truck will outlast the Ram or any diesel pickup! Believe me there are ways to make your MDT suck pickups up the tailpipe but that’s not his real problem and that’s what I’m trying to help him with! I wouldn’t even consider a twin screw for this job! Knowing the terrain I was only suggesting that he get on the flat hard ground before hooking everything together! Damage to a 5th wheel is not cheap! Then we get to brakes, the air brakes could be a problem at anytime that hard braking is required because the truck has a much better braking system than the trailer or trailers and can cause a catastrophe because of their efficiency compared to electric or hydraulic brakes! The trick about going downhill is to keep your speed down with the engine and trans and not have to use your brakes only sparingly! The MDT is better for that because of the engine compression too! All that being said it’s too much truck for this job!

    Way too much truck for one, length and one too many axles as well! Then you wait to hook it all together when you get on the level surface! Don’t discourage people when double towing is not the problem! You are nice folks but you need to understand what you are doing before you tell other people what to do! Sorry about laying the truth on you!

    Big thing to look at isn’t so much the speed but look at how cool your truck was vs his. I’m gonna bet you didn’t get over 200 degrees where I’m gonna bet he was well north of 230 pulling that hill. Same for your egt’s. You might not speed past em but that truck doesn’t care how much weight you put on its back. Also look into pdi for some tunes or turbo upgrades and then you can pull away from them pretty easily

    He was driving the truck the wrong way, keep your truck n set up. His habits will destroy that truck, but people hate bigger trucks passing them even when they're in the way so they speed up on purpose. Even if that means holding you n the rest of the traffic up. I locally drive a truck n people have no respect now days. Stay safe guys

    While your semi may have roughly the same horsepower numbers as the 3500 I’m going to assume you have twice the torque. The high torque is going to insure you always make it up the hill. While I believe the semi would be a better tow vehicle going off your videos it seems it doesn’t suit your needs that well. I think a ram 3500 with the HO motor or F450 and maybe a few performance mods could suit your needs a lot better.

    The Ram is a nice rig for sure, but I'm betting he was sucking his fuel tank inside out trying to keep up with your HDT. BTW, how far down did you have to downshift to pull that hill? He had to be bottomed out in the RAM.

  • @allenauger6650
    @allenauger6650 Před rokem

    You want to climb up the hill faster you need a better power plant driver. A C 15 cat stock will give you 550 hp 1850 torque . Your not pulling much weight so get rid of the twin screws and go with a single axle put some high way gears in with an 18 speed and you won't struggle climbing a hill.

    • @FindingLifesAdventure
      @FindingLifesAdventure  Před rokem

      This truck was a C15 single turbo, rated at 475… witch was fine for the weight, yeah I always wish I had more power. Contemplated turning it up. The BIG BIG downfall of this truck was it was only a 10 speed. So you could never be in the right gear well climbing is what it felt like.

    12 feet of over hang on your camper and a ditch is your problem not double towing, and buying a giant truck to pull a camper giving up maneurability, and convenience of pick up when not pulling a camper plus cost it kinda sounds like you guy's don't know what your doing
