I've just realized that the main way I've been initiating drifts this whole time is the Scandinavian Flick. I never realized this wasn't the most common/easiest way to do it, which explains why I always found it really hard to control my drifts.
I do the same, witch i mostly think came from me rallying quite a lot and it got nothing to do with the control of your drift, its just a way to initiate it
6:30 to jump drift, throw a scandi flick before a crest going into a corner, Ideally you time it so your weight transfer happens as your front tires run up the crest, then its as usual from there.
The Barrel Roll Drift where Peppy yells at you to "DO A BARREL ROLL", and as you initiate the drift, Wolf O'Donnell behind you says "What the heck?!" Bonus points for a silver and blue paint job
Yesterday I sat down and said “I’m not going to leave this chair until I drift a stock 200bx around this one corner”. Took me 2 hours but I finally did it. The hardest part for me was exiting the drift without spinning out or stalling. I recorded the whole thing and I want to do a super cut of every time I slammed into the guard rail lol
I know how you do it: Every button on your keyboard is binded to a different degree of turn in and you rapidly press the different buttons stubbing your fingers very fast therefore initiating a drift
On the camera options, one of them makes the orbit camera thigter, and will follow more the car, that might help you to drift and see where you are going
Now for the verdict of muyes vid and some of mine: Overall the video was good, very detailed tutorial and had all the right bits in the right place, and I appreciate the use of a custom config. My Suggestions: 1. Tune the car for oversteer, easy to initiate and to catch the car when its slides but exit can be tricky, have a light hands on the wheel 2. The Pro drift Supra (Hirochi Prasu) has a really good steering angle might be better for beginners 3. The throttle modulation was not as emphasized as I thought, a good balance between the steering and throttle can lead to good drifts 4. Setup is fricken important, You can have a car set up soft (soft springs) and make it easier to upset the weight and have it easier to initiate. You can also have it set hard (stiff springs) amd have a good drift and exit and have more precision. Personally in lower powered cars the I like to have it set up soft primarily because of the lack of power. Try finding a good balance. 5. Weight and wheel base wasn't prioritize for the use of drifting a variety of cars, Weight must be kept around 1.4 tons to have a good balance between response and twitchyness. Of course it all depends on the type of car, FR (Front engined RWD) is preferred and wheelbase must be kept at a little bit of the longer side, short will be good to initiate but be harder at the limit, long will be better personally. Be away from Mid engined short wheelbase cars for obvious reasons. 6. Finally, inputs: Wheel will offer better precision, but I suggest turning the Force feedback a bunch up because BeamNG.drive has pretty weak FFB, controller is a little bit harder and takes a bit more practice Verdict: Overall very good, This has been put up here and in the discord, this is to people in who arent in the family fucking friendly server I think this will help people!
Thanks for this man. I'll try it out soon, at the minute my fav car to use is a custom AWD Gavril Barstow F2 around west coast and a little mod drift map. Hopefully I'll soon be able to do a RWD drift :)
i used to do sick drifts on keyboard, recently i bought a steering wheel and i could not pull a drift whatsoever lol, last week i started improving a lot tho i got pretty used to it at this point
Drifting (at least with a wheel) is waay harder then anything other game. Asetta Corsa and dirt rally 2.0 are way easier to slide and maintain then beam. Edit 8/18/22 Saw my og comment ^, I believe beam has gotten significantly better after the tire grip and ffb updates. Not as easy as ac or fh5 still, but manageable on nearly every car, except the mf 200bx, they gotta balance that boi.
I been playing this game almost 3000 hours and well I leaned to drift well but it’s cool seeing this video because when I was tryna learn no one posted nothing so I found this super cool
3:01 Well, drift is supposed to be initiated before a corner, whereas if you start "drifting" after the apex, it would rather be called a powerslide Anyways its awesome if you can drift in Beam.NG, its really hard compared to other driving sims
I am very familiar with drifting on assetto, carx and forza but I struggle a lot with beamng. I feel like it's wheel settings because there isn't much self steer
Hey if you haven’t been playing for a bit, check the tuning settings. The vehicle config has a way to turn FFB up, but for specific setups only. Hope this helps.
Tune my car for what situation there going to be in, if it's narrow tight turns then less power and shorter gears. The less tight the longer the gears and more power you should have.
Oh, drift is done with rear wheel(rwd) drive only, if we use four wheel drive(awd) or front wheel drive(fwd) it is not drift it is power slide, even if we keep it aside
step1 get the Gavril Grand Marshal in the V8 Roadsport trim. step2 install drift quick ratio front steering, 5 speed manual transmission, and a welded rear differential. step3 drift in 2nd gear, it is the easiest car to drift.
since i dont have a controller and hate using a keyboard, im trying to learn drifting with mouse steering and mouse pedals and i notice that there's barely any tutorials on youtube for that :c
Love the videos. Can you make a tutorial how to config a car to drift. What wheel size/wide, wich tires (sport, drift, race), suspension setup (lower/wider better?), then what gears and diff type and values. I drive on G29 wheel and having strugle to make and tuned a car to drift.
i tried drifting in beam but with keyboard (i dont have steering wheel or something else) i tried somany times and i did some clean drifts but that chance is one in hundred
7:37 this is factually wrong - if you're not tracing the wheel/letting it slide and self steer while drifting you actually won't be able to drift. our worthless human arms are incapable of moving fast enough to compete with the self steer of cars when drifting.
BeamNG is a weird game tho bro, it never seems to control the drift with its own self-steer, its completely different to something like assetto corsa where this is true. or thats just my own opinion anyway
Welp, that would explain why drifting has been so hard for me... I was doing the Scandinavian flick with using the handbrake because I didnt know what I was doing...
This man just called out keyboard drifters and wall taps .... Wow XD Wall taps are supposed to be about showing technique and control, not smashing the back of the car against a wall, wall drags are also a bit different from wall taps unlike when some people do it. Pulls out keyboard, man you're lucky i don't have this game .... I'd whipper snap you back to the month you posted this. I learned the power of the outside line and the tandem drift on the keyboard! Don't look down on my skilllzzzz! Nah I'm jk it's not that serious, i would try the course on keyboard if i could though but more to have fun. Hope you work on your whips and clutch through! 😁😇😉
I've personally been using the ingame drift missile Gavril crown vic knockoff (what's it called again?) to learn drifting, and doing so on the West Coast racetrack. I've been pretty successful, but the new tire physics kinda threw me off lol

You can floor it, the car will steer back once it's on the straight, like controller, diffcult to do but try it, but don't forget throttle control
i just love your channel, there's a lot of beamng content
Ooh, I never thought of that joystick trick for extra precision.
I think that'll help quite a lot in of itself, thanks MuYe!

For controller users: you can turn on clutch override, it helps you to not spin out :))
