My dad was only a few months old when his father was tragically killed in an accident. On the day of my dad’s first holy communion, as he and the other children processed together to the altar rail, his mum saw her deceased husband (my dad’s father) directly behind my dad with his hand on his shoulder. Dad’s mum prayed in the rosary every day that God would call one on her grandsons to the priesthood , and it turned out to be me. I’ve learned that unimaginable blessings can come from great sufferings.

Praying for our dead is so often dismissed because the families believe, he was such a good man or she was such a good woman. They are definitely in heaven. We all have shortcomings in the face of God. Let’s show our love with a storm of Masses for our dead and love them into heaven. Our family has experienced several deaths of patriarchs and matriarchs and have seen the lack of interest in these prayers and Masses for them. Yes, they were amazing. But we all need cleaning before entering the Kingdom. Thank you so much, Fr. Mark!
Absolutely true! Most of the time we are presumptuous that they're already with God, 'cos we're too lazy to pray for them.
We cannot presume to judge them by our standards. God is the only judge who says who gets into Heaven so we must keep praying and doing penance.
As a hospice nurse at a Diocesan facility I am so discouraged by 99.5% of our caregivers- every one of them uses " he/she went to heaven" for when our patients pass away. I try to say as often as I can " no purgatory". No one responds either way when I say this

After my Dad passed away I immediately began praying for his soul to make it to Heaven
I asked God to please give me a sign when my Dad made it to Heaven. I thought I would be praying for years for his soul.
7 months later I was at daily Mass, praying the “Our Father”, and God told me my Dad made it to Heaven
Even though I miss my Dad very much I’m so happy that his soul is at rest with the Lord
Now I constantly pray for the souls in Purgatory that they will get to Heaven
Remember, GOD exists outside of space and time, so any prayers today or tomorrow can be for someone that died 20yrs ago or for a future sense. I'm glad your father is in heaven now. Now both your fathers are in heaven! GOD bless you!

Every day I thank God for the mercy of Purgatory… I truly pity those who believe it’s just Heaven or Hell.
I was out walking one morning at 5 am praying for my grandmother who had passed away. I asked the Lord if she was still in purgatory that my prayer would help her be released. Immediately the strongest smell of her powder she always used came to me and it kind of startled me but I knew she was free and with the Lord. So awesome - she was such a Holy women who loved the Lord and I cant wait to see her again in paradise.
I prayed for many years for the soul of my father who became an atheist. After he died I had a dream that he was in purgatory and he was crying thanking me for my prayers

Fr Mark I have mentioned this previously on your channel and its a great topic you brought up. We must not forget to pray for the souls in purgatory. It is a wonderful feeling knowing that your prayers can help with someone making their way from purgatory to heaven. The simplest and easiest prayer to say for the souls in purgatory is to say St Gertrudes prayer. I recite this prayer a number of times a day when I can. For those who dont know the prayer I have pasted it below, so please recite it at least once if its not too much trouble. It is not a difficult prayer. It has been said that St Gertrude was promised that anyone who said this prayer from the heart and with sincerity that 1000 souls would go to heaven from purgatory. It was also mentioned that if this prayer was said on Christmas day that EVEN more souls would be released. In fact it has been told that more souls go heaven on Christmas day than any other day of the year. So dont forget to recite this prayer. You never know when you will need these souls to pray for you, so gather your army and pray.

I say this prayer every day when I say my morning prayers.
I also recite St. Gertrude's prayer on a daily basis and have included it in all group recitations of the Rosary. I wrote a letter to the Bishop from Our Diocese asking for the recitation of the powerful prayer to St. Michael the Archangel after each Mass and thankfully he approved it. VIVA CRISTO REY!
@@juans6639 Wonderful Juan S. I hope your bishop listened to your letter. The mass that I go to the priest says the St Michaels prayer before the mass and after the mass, which I think is very appropriate considering the times we are in. We are indeed in a spiritual battle and the best way we can arm ourselves is to pray.

Everyday 4 the Holy Souls especially the ones that no one prays for…my dad died last year of heart failure, but b4 he passed he received the sacrament of the sick & an Apostolic Pardon from Fr Greg M…I was very grateful to him 4this…but I too hope 1day I might see my dad during mass/consecration?!

If you pray for others (living and dead) while you're still alive, people will pray for you too in this life and in the next life because what we do to others in this life whether good or bad will return to us or will happen to us too. In short, we will reap what we sow. So if you want many people to pray for you and to help you in other things, pray for many people also and help them too in other things.

I always have a Mass said for anyone I know who dies, Catholic or not. In my sympathy card to the family I explain the Catholic tradition of offering a Mass for the peace of their soul, a great witness.

Last night I dreamt my deceased mother leaned over me and called my name which woke me up. I said a few prayers for my mother thinking she needed prayers. I will have masses said for her so she can get to heaven!

I have had friends whom I trust and believe, tell me that they have seen souls in purgatory, and 2 of them have said that whenever they were by a cemetary, they could hear the voices of people in purgatory asking for prayers.

Hello Cindy.
No. I know his mother-in-law (in her senior years). A devout woman. She is with her daughter at the moment but forced to return, medical conditions. I'm surprised she managed the journey. She and I live in the UK. We have the NHS here (for now anyway). Her grief is great. In another couple of weeks her daughter and grandchildren will be completely on their own with their grief. So hard for them all. There are systems in place in the UK (at present), to help people in many unfortunate situations but I'm not sure about other countries. I know Andreas himself was concerned for his little family being without him. This being the case. I feel sure, that any prayers or/and masses celebrated for him, will be much rewarded by him, when it's our time to embark on our final journey.

We must all pray and offer masses for the deceased especially in this time when almost everyone including the priests celebrating funeral masses "canonize" everyone at their funeral mass. I always beg my mom and my husband to never let that happen (should I die before them.) Never assume I made it, always keep praying and offering masses! What a tragedy that so many souls need prayers while their loves one's on earth just assume they are in heaven automatically.

He can apply a prayer you say today for someone from 100 years ago...because He saw you would pray it for them, and apply it in advance. He is GOD! Will you continue to pray for me after I am gone" he asked with such severity.".and mama and your brothers and sisters." I ask you because I feel you will hold onto the faith. .non of the rest of the 8 of us is still a mass attending Catholic. Then one day driving .a few years ago .I knew ,saw, felt, a huge lift! I dreamed of my husband nearly every night after his death, but in the dream if I realized he was no longer living, I would lose sight of him or he would be too far away to see me or hear me call to him. I would wake feeling very sad. Months later, I had a powerful dream that seemed so real. My husband was kneeling on the floor in front of the Crucifix that hangs above our bedroom door. I could see his hands were clasped together in prayer and he was surrounded by a glowing light. I took it to be a sign from God that my husband was safe in heaven and completely at peace. I feel at peace now too.

Trisha Perry - don't be so intolerant. We believe and pray for others who passed that God forgive them and welcome those prayed for into His Kingdom. God can decide the value of those prayers in His mercy.
This is a big affirmation for me. After my parents passed, we offered Masses on the day of passing every month for a year and then on Death Anniversaries, birthdays, November and now I am having Gregorian Masses for them, my Uncle and other family members too who we know need the priceless gift of Masses to help them get to heaven. This is easily the best gift of gratitude we can give our beloved family and friends.... If our loved ones are already in heaven, then they can request that the Masses be applied to other souls in purgatory who need the Masses, or the Lord Himself will do this! The gift of the Mass is never wasted!🙏

@@Alma.- Def don’t miss it...it really left an impact on me, to pray and offer up more for the dead, including relatives. Padre Pio is one of the featured, and I sat there in awe with my recent 3rd class relic touched to his (i.e. my Rosary), in my hand. We had visited his incorruptible? Remains at San Giovanni Rotunda, and walked many of those same halls shown, spellbound now.
I stayed in Montserrat for a couple of nights one summer. A beautiful experience. BTW we can take a train up there. In those times I guess they either walked or rode a donkey.
For my parents I had the 30 day Gregorian masses offered for them when they each passed away through the Seraphic Mass Association.

Please remember to have masses said for your loved ones when they are alive. I have heard several priests say 1 mass offered up when alive is worth more than dozens of masses offered up when deceased.

A Catholic mystic said my grandma was in purgatory and therefore my mother had Gregorian masses done for her. In every memory that i have of my grandmother she was praying the rosary, she always had the holy rosary in her hands. She was the mother of 12 but only 3 of her children were alive when God called her. One of her son one day left home and never returned we dont even know if he is alive or dead. She recieved the final rites and confessed before her death. Yet even though she suffered greatly while on earth she still had to go to purgatory. Its joyful yet terryfing, joy in that her soul is saved and someone related to me will one day or has already made it to Heaven. Terryfying that despite being that holy she only made it to purgatory.
Who was the Catholic Mystic ? Is it possible she was wrong?
@@TheNarrowGate101 My aunt who is a nun met the mystic while she was running a centre for the mentally ill and homeless. She would come in to pray and help as she lived nearby. According to her she can only see souls in purgatory and can't see them if they went to Heaven or Hell. My aunt unfortunately was diagnosed with uterine cancer and was reassigned to another convent to be cared for and has since lost contact with the mystic. I wish I could contact her in some way as i really want to know where my Fathers soul is as he passed away in 2018.
Also, she could be wrong, but in my grandmother's case, her devotion to God and her receiving the final rites and confession before she died gives me strong hope she is saved.
I also had the grace of reading about sermons from St Leonard and St vincent Ferrere here is a brief segment of it.
The following narrative from Saint Vincent Ferrer will show you what you may think about it. He relates that an archdeacon in Lyons gave up his charge and retreated into a desert place to do penance, and that he died the same day and hour as Saint Bernard. After his death, he appeared to his bishop and said to him, "Know, Monsignor, that at the very hour I passed away, thirty-three thousand people also died. Out of this number, Bernard and myself went up to heaven without delay, three went to purgatory, and all the others fell into Hell."
So from this its clear that unless your a living saint, the few that are saved will have to go to purgatory.

Praise be Jesus Christ. I try to pray for the souls daily. My mom was a very Godly woman, be she had faults as we all do. She's been dead since 2004 but I still pray for her and my brother who died in 1970 and all those I hold dear to my heart & for those who have no one to pray for them. My dad taught me, pray especially for that soul who is one prayer away from heaven.

I got lost in a cemetery next to a convent once. I noticed one of the graves had a candle that had gone out. I relit it and said a quick prayer. When I stood up again there was a nun standing next to me who pointed the way I should go and told me I was going to be late. When I looked back no one was there.
So very few today take seriously their responsibility to have Masses said for the dead. This is a timely reminder, especially given the time of the year. Please, everyone, have a Gregorian of Masses said for every departed loved one. It really is worth it.

I live on the northeast we've had a major storm since Monday I've been in the dark for 3 days with severe winds rain no electricity no he very cold and no power 💖I haven't had power since the day my brother 💖 I've had the time to sit in the dark and pray💖 I felt like I was experiencing the three days of darkness..( I feel God is merciful and was giving us a taste of it) 💖I sensed my brother was in purgatory and he was pacing around needing prayer💖 so since Monday I've been praying for Jimmy💖 and I'm going to start having masses said for him💖 Purgatory Is For Real💖 thank you Father Mark we love you💖💖💖💖💖

My devotion to the souls in Purgatory has grown immensely since my dearest mother passed on 6 years ago Nov. 3rd. I wish I'd been so devoted previously for other friends and family. Now I'm trying to make up for lost time. I'm holding on faith that God knew I'd get here. Since He is beyond any time or space. I've been using Susan Tassone"s devotional faily for the past 4 years, Thirty Day Devotional for The Holy Souls. There's a part at the back that goes through a whole long list of categories of souls that I end the daily prayer with.
So grateful for all of Fr. Mark's podcasts. One of by 48 hierarchy I pray for by name daily. God bless them all❣

@@TriciaRP are you Catholic? If so you should research why we believe in Purgatory and where in scripture we base our belief. Plus the Churches approval of more than one message/revelation from Mary and other Saints on Purgatory. What do you think God's Word in scripture about the cleansing fires is referring to? I for one believe in my Salvation through Christ, but I also know that the life I've lived on this earth is def not equal to others, some much better, some much worse. I will always be grateful that there's a place for cleansing before I'm before the beatific vision of God, and I would think even those who lived the worst of the worst life, think hardened criminals, would be especially grateful if their conversions don't come until soon before death or death bed. I hope you will consider these things, and look up Purgatory in Catholic Answers.

Fr Mark .in 1998..I was sitting in church alone and a womans voice spoke in my left ear..she said " please pray for just one soul a day"... ever since that day ..as I'm waking up or going to sleep I am given first and last names of people I have NEVER met on earth..i keep their names in a journal and have masses celebrated for each individual. i put their names in the prayer book at church and offer my sufferings for them. God is sooo merciful!❤🙏🙏🙏🙏❤

I've seen souls in purgatory, and I'll tell you, getting them out is never easy. Only a very tiny few are holy enough to get straight to Heaven.
Our Blessed Mother told the children at Fatima that some souls will remain in purgatory till the end of time. A very scary proposition, but one still better than damnation.
We must learn to live a penitential life. If we don't we'll still have to do the penance here-after. Purgatory is really unfinished penance carried over into the next life!

The nice thing about purgatory is that you know at some point in the continuum heaven is the end result.

Praying for the deceased is a great way to understand who you really are.
For some time ago I often felt a strong force to pray for one of my dead aunts. I had a Mass offered for her, and prayed often for her soul for maybe 2 yrs. Then suddenly I don’t feel the need to pray for her any more. I hope this means she is now in heaven! 🙏But in case I still pray for her and all my dead relatives every day, and have a Mass offered for them ones a year. 🙏

There are different levels of Purgatory, 5 or 6 I believe. The highest one, closest to Heaven, is adoration. The lowest, closest to Hell, is painful fire. There are also different levels of Heaven, including a level of only martyrs. It makes me so excited to get to Heaven, and i can only hope and pray that I'll be able to make it a higher level of Heaven 😅 ❤️💙💛Jezu, Ufaim, Tobie!
