Sabine Meyer:
I was really enthusiastic about this project from the start. The saxophone is an amazing instrument with an enormous dynamical range and expression. In combination with the clarinet you receive a really attractive, exciting sound. It´s also important, to be always curious and open minded concerning new things.
Daniel Gauthier:
On the one hand our program is really appealing for the audience. That’s also the basic idea, we want to reach the people. On the other hand the program is really challenging for us as musicians. There are three mainworks we looked on already for a long time, but we knew, to play this works in our constellation of musicians, our quintet, could be problematic. So we waited until we got a solution. And at the moment Sabine Meyer joined us, everything was clear: the moment has come, now we can play this works. These are “L'apprenti sorcier” by Paul Dukas, Alexander Borodins “Polovetsian Dances” and “The Firebird” by Stravinsky. Especially the last one is a real challenge for us, this work puts us musically and technically to the limit.
